The Darma valley is endowed  with abundant scenic grandeur.  It is 134 km from Pithoragarh and 35 km from Dharchula.  The last bus terminal is Sobla.

From Sobla to Panchchuli Glacier, there is a 40 km trek.  The trek route has exotic scenery, snowcapped mountains, Alpine meadows and a rich variety of flora and fauna.  Sobla is the entry point of the Darma valley.

The valley is inhabited by Bhotias.  The inhabitants migrate to the lower locations between Dharchula and Jauljibi during October-November to spend winter in relatively warmer areas and return to Darma valley in March-April.

The Dhauli Ganga River cuts through this pristine valley with remote villages and meadows dotted with hundreds of sheep and a brilliant variety of flora and fauna. The villages around the base of the Panchchuli have a distinct culture and the customs are based on the legend of the Panchchuli massif and the reigning gods and goddesses of the peak. From Duktu a trek to the base camp of Pachchuli is extremely intriguing and the highlight of the trek.

According to mythology, it was at Darma valley that the Pandavas cooked their last meal on the five peaks of Panch Chuli Massif before leaving for Heaven. `Panch Chuli' literally does mean `five pointed oven'.
