भयंकर 'एनाकोंडा' को देख ठहर गईं सांसे, मुंह से निकला, 'ओह माई गॉड'!
नैनीताल। उत्तराखंड के नैनीताल में स्थित जिम कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क में जनवरी 2009 में नए साल को सेलीब्रेट करने गए एक ग्रूप की उस समय सांसे ठहर गईं जब उन्होंने अपने सामने एक विशाल सांप को देखा। सामान्यत: इस तरह के सांप अपने देश में नहीं दिखते हैं। जब लोगों ने पता किया तो मालूम हुआ कि यह एनाकोंडा है। इसे खास इस पार्क में रखा गया है।

बताते चलें कि एनाकोंडा दक्षिण अमेरिका में पाया जाने वाला एक विशाल सांप है। एनाकोंडा तमिल शब्द anaikolra से बना है। इसका अर्थ हाथी होता है।

विश्व प्रसिद्ध जिम कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क में अजगर और एनाकोंडा सांपों के अलावा शेर, हाथी, भालू, बाघ, हिरन, पांडा, काकड़, घुरल और चीता आदि जानवर बड़ी संख्या में हैं। इस पार्क में 600 से अधिक रंग-बिरंगे पक्षियों की जातियां पाई जाती हैं। यहां विश्व भर के पर्यटक आते हैं।


कब और कैसे जाएं


कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क में पर्यटकों के भ्रमण का समय नवम्बर से मई तक होता है। इस मौसम में की ट्रैवल एजेन्सियाँ कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क में सैलानियों को घुमाने का प्रबन्ध करती हैं। कुमाऊं विकास निगम भी प्रति शुक्रवार के दिल्ली से कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क तक पर्यटकों को ले जाने के लिए संचालित भ्रमणों का आयोजन करता है।

नैनीताल के रामनगर के रेलवे स्टेशन से 12 कि.मी. की दूरी पर 'कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क' का गेट है। रेलवे स्टेशन से छोटी गाड़ियों, टैक्सियों और बसों से पार्क तक पहुंचा जा सकता है। यहां के लिए बस सेवाएं भी उपलब्ध हैं। दिल्ली से ढिकाला तक बस आ-जा सकती है। यहां पहुंचने के लिए रामनगर कालागढ़ मार्गों का भी प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।


कितनी है दूरी

यदि गाजियाबाद को केंद्र माने तो ढिकाला की दूरी 295 कि.मी. है। गाजियाबाद से हापुड़-मुरदाबाद-काशीपुर-रामनगर होते हुए ढिकाला तक का मार्ग है। यहां सड़क मार्ग से जाना सुखदाई होता है।

Kaladungi is a forest area in the Corbett National Park and has the Ramaganga flowing through it. An excellent Elephant Safari trek.
Jim Corbett National Park — named after the famous hunter and naturalist who played a key role in its establishment — is the oldest national park in India. The park was originally established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. Situated in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, the park acts as a protected area for the critically endangered Bengal tiger of India, the secure survival of which is the main objective of Project Tiger, an Indian wildlife protection initiative.
The park has sub-Himalayan belt geographical and ecological characteristics. It contains 488 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna. During recent times the park has been a popular ecotourism destination.
The park is located between 29°25' to 29°39'N latitude and 78°44' to 79°07'E longitude. The average altitude of the region ranges between 360 metres (1,181 ft) and 1,040 metres (3,412 ft). It has numerous ravines, ridges, minor streams and small plateaus with varying aspects and degrees of slopes. The park encompasses the Patli Dun valley formed by the Ramganga river.
The reserve, located partly along a valley between the Lesser Himalaya in the north and the Siwaliks in the south, has a sub-Himalayan belt structure. The upper tertiary rocks are exposed towards the base of the Siwalik range and hard sandstone units form broad ridges. Characteristic longitudinal valleys, geographically termed Doons, or Duns can be seen formed along the narrow tectonic zones between lineaments.
The reserve does not allow hunting, but does permit timber cutting for domestic purposes
Corbett National Park is one of the thirteen protected areas covered by World Wildlife Fund under their Terai Arc Landscape Programme. The programme aims to protect three of the five terrestrial flagship species, the tiger, the Asian elephant and the Great One-horned Rhinoceros, by restoring corridors of forest to link 13 protected areas of Nepal and India to enable wildlife migration

The Jim Corbett National Park here on Tuesday opened its gates to wildlife enthusiasts for a landmark season, having turned 75. To mark the platinum jubilee, a function was organised at the park's Aam Danda gate, where Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri inaugurated a newly introduced online reservation system for visitors.

Visitors looking to book passes for entry to the park can now log in to corbettonline.uk.gov.in to make their reservations. The park will now remain open to visitors till June 15 next year.

Khanduri spoke of the challenges that Uttarakhand faced in balancing growing development needs of the state's population with environmental conservation. "Even a small initiative takes years to be approved by the Centre. As population increases, conflict with nature will increase. I appeal to those responsible for protecting wildlife to work alongside ordinary people," he said.
