Banj Oak Forests - These are found between the heights of 1825m and 2450 m. but at places their limits ascent up to 2600 m. on the southern aspect and descend to 1200 m. on the northern aspect of the hills. Jatamansi (Botanical Name- nardostachys jatamansi ) जटामासी

मासी, रैमासी, जटामासी किसी भी नाम से पुकार लीजिये इसकी महक कम न होगी. पहाड़ के अनेक लोकगीतों में इसके फूल का रहस्यमयी अंदाज में जिक्र हुआ है. ऐसा फूल जो ऊंचे कैलास में फूलता है. ऐसा फूल जो महादेव को भाता है.
लेकिन ऊंचे हिमालय के इस पौधे का फूल गीतों में अधिक महकता है. इसके जिस हिस्से का इस्तेमाल हम करते हैं वह है इसकी रेशेदार जड़. हालाँकि मध्य हिमालय में यह पौधा नहीं पाया जाता लेकिन अण्वालों द्वारा इसकी सुदंधित जड़ें बुग्यालों से लायी जाती रही हैं. कुछ और सुगन्धित जड़ों और पत्तियों के साथ मिला कर इसकी धूप बनाई जाती है और थोड़ा सा घी लगाकर जलते कोयलों पर रखी जाती है.
इसका वैज्ञानिक नाम nardostachys jatamansi है. आयुर्वेद में इसके अनेक औषधीय उपयोग बताये जाते हैं.
