The procession leaves Kedarnath on the morning of Bhai Dhuj, two days after the festival of Diwali, and arrives in Gupt Kashi on the evening of the next day.

  The road distance is 46 km., but the procession travels on the older paths, for which distances are a bit shorter.  Still, the marchers are tired by the time they get there.

गुप्‍तकाशी का वहीं महत्‍व है जो महत्‍व काशी का है। यहां गंगा और यमुना नदियां आपस में मिलती है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि महाभारत के युद्ध के बाद पांण्‍डव भगवान शिव से मिलना चाहते थे और उनसे आर्शीवाद प्राप्‍त करना चाहते हैं।

लेकिन भगवान शिव पांडवों से मिलना नहीं चाहते थे इसलिए वह गुप्‍ताकाशी से केदारनाथ चले गए। गुप्‍तकाशी समुद्र तल से 1319 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर स्थित है।

यह एक स्‍तूप नाला पर स्थित है जो कि ऊखीमठ के समीप स्थित है। कुछ स्‍थानीय निवासी इसे राणा नल के नाम से बुलाते हैं। इसके अलावा पुराना विश्‍वनाथ मंदिर, अराधनेश्रवर मंदिर और मणिकारनिक कुंड गुप्‍तकाशी के प्रमुख आकर्षण केन्‍द्र है।
