          Initially, from past, Garhwal kings were having rule over Chandi Pargana region. When in 1958, Garhwal King Prithwipati Shah refused for handing over Suleman Shikoh to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Aurangzeb Army captured Chandi Region. On 22nd December 1660, Garhwal  Prince Medani Shah handed over Suleman Shikoh to Aurangzeb Army. However, Mughal had right on Chandi Region till 1664. In 1664, Aurangzeb ordered for handing over Chandi Region to Garhwal King Prithwipati Shah.
         Later on Nazibbudaula captured Chandi Region and Doon. Pradip Shha captured Doon but could not capture Chandi region. Chandi was near the Rohila capital Nazibabad. Therefore, Rohila captured Chandi region. Awadh Nabab captured Chandi Region from Rohila. Later on the right of Chandi region was transferred to east India Company.
  On those days, Kangdi, Shyampur, villages near Laldhang were under Chandi Pargana which was east of Ganga River.
   Apart from Land tax there was other income from dense forest region of Chandi Pargana-

Water tax- for fishing and edible water born plants
Grazing Tax- The nearby famers used to bring their domestic animals for grazing and used to pay tax.
Forest produces –catechu, Sal,  woods, bamboo, lime, resin, honey, medicinal plants etc
In 1803, after Company getting right on Chandi region, Lieutenant Governor General Henry Welsali ordered to make the land for agriculture.
Since, Company had already handed over ownership of Chandi region to Hearsay, Chandi region was ignored by the Company officials in changing the land for fertile agro land.

On 11 January, Hearsay sold the right of Chandi Pargana to the Company that the company would pay annually Rs 1200 to his next generations.
            Agro Products from Khara and sale of Chandi
From 1812 till 1814, Sudarshan Shah could solve the problems of food for his family from the agriculture from Khara region.
In that time Sudarshan Shah met many British officials.

         कतिपय प्राचीन गाथाएं शक आदि विदेशी जातियों का संबंध कुणिंद जनपद के पश्चमी भाग से जोड़ते हैं जिसमे हरिद्वार , बिजनौर , सहारनपुर सम्मलित है। (महाभारत ). सभापर्व , महाभारत अनुसार कुलिंद जनपद में प्रदर , पारद , तुषार , दरद तथा खसादि जातियां  बसीं थीं।  इसमें प्रदर -पारद को शक , पह्लव जाति व तुषार की पहचान कुषाण जाति से जाती है (डा डबराल ) .

                 टोंस -यमुना संगम हरिपुर का संबंध शक राजा रिसालु से जोड़ा जाता है (देहरादून गजेटियर ) . पंजाब के शकनरेश रिसालु का राज्य यमुना घाटी तक फैला हो संभव नही है।  ऐसा लगता है जब शक जाति यमुना घाटी (देहरादून , सहारनपुर व हरिद्वार का पूरा या कुछ भाग ) में आ बसी होगी तो अपने साथ रिसालू की गाथा भी साथ लायी होगी।
              या हो सकता है कि इस भाग में मथुरा के शक नरेश अधीन कोई रिसालू नाम का स्थानीय शक शासक रहा होगा।
         कनिंघम का अनुमान था कि मौर्य वंश अंतिम नरेश राजपाल विक्रमी पूर्व दूसरी शती में उत्तराखंड के राजा शाक्दित्य द्वारा मारा गया था।
           हर्षचरित से ज्ञात होता है कि ध्रुवस्वामिनी वेष श में चन्द्रगुप्त ने जिस राजा की हत्या की थी वह शकनरेश था।
    इन गाथाओं के आधार पर यह अनुमान लगाया जाता है कि शकों का कुलिंद /कुणिंद  पश्चमी भाग पर अधिकार रहा होगा और जब पह्लव जाती इस पश्चमी क्षेत्र में उपद्रव , छापामारी मचाने लगी तो वे भी पूर्व की और बढ़े होंगे।

भारत के विशेषतः टेलीविजन व उत्तराखंड की समस्त पत्रकारिता प्रजाति की पर्यटन विरोधी मानसिकता से मै कई बार खिन्न हो जाता हूँ।
एक बार उत्तराखंड पर्यटन विभाग ने देहरादून में इंटरनेसनल आइस स्केटिंग  आयोजन किया जो पर्यटन विकास  आवश्यक था।  युगवाणी  संपादक श्री सुधीर  कोठियाल ने सम्पादकीय में लिखा कि देहरादून में प्ले ग्राउंड नही है सरकार आइस स्केटिंग का आयोजन कर रही है।  मुंबई में मैंने श्री कोठियाल से बात की कि यदि पत्रकार को पर्यटन विपणन की समझ ना हो तो उसे इस तरह पर्यटन जैसे विषय पर नही लिखना चाहिए।  कोठियाल जी नाराज ही हुए होंगे।
एक बार पर्यटन विभाग द्वारा मसूरी में अपने एजेंटों को पंच सितारे बड़ी पार्टी दी तो  मेरे मित्र पूरण पंत पथिक ने अपने पत्र 'गढ़वाली धै ' में पर्यटन विभाग व सरकार की धुनाई की।  मैंने पथिक जी को फोन कर समझाया कि टूरिज्म एक ग्लैमरस व्यापार है और एजेंटों को बड़ी पार्टी देना मार्केटिंग  विशेष अंग है तो भी पंत जी नही समझ सके कि सरकार को ऐसे व्यर्थ  करने चाहिए।
जब विधायक या सांसद सरकारी खर्च पर विदेश भ्रमण  करते हैं तो टीवी पत्रकार इसी तरह टीवी चैनलों में ऐसे चिल्लाते हैं, न्यूक्लियर बम फोड़ते हैं जैसे विधायकों ने भारत को बेच ही  दिया हो । वास्तव में इन पत्रकारों को पर्यटन ब्यापार की कोई समझ है ही नही।
         पर्यटन विकास में सबसे अधिक महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य होता है पर्यटन स्थल वासियों की पर्यटन मानसिकता। उत्तराखंड तीन हजार से भी अधिक सालों से एक प्रसिद्ध पर्यटक स्थल रहा है कंतु यह भी सत्य है कि आज भी उत्तराखंडियों में व्यापारिक , व्यवसायिक , बिजिनेस मानसिकता नही आ पाई है और तभी तो उत्तराखंड के पत्रकार भी उत्तराखंड के पर्यटन विभाग की कई व्यवसायिक रूप से सही कार्यवाहियों की भर्त्स्ना कर देते हैं।  पत्रकार हमारे समाज के सदस्य है  और वे समाज की मानसिकता की अभिव्यक्ति ही सामने लाते हैं।
मेरा मानना है कि यदि उत्तराखंड में पर्यटन विकास करना है तो पूरे समाज की पर्यटनमुखी मानसिकता होनी आवश्यक है।  इसके लिए शीर्षस्थ राजनीतिज्ञों , जिला स्तर के राजनीतिज्ञों से लेकर ग्राम प्रधान व ग्राम सभा पंचों की पर्यटन मानसिकता पनपनी आवश्यक है।
        पर्यटन मानसिकता हेतु एक साधन विधयकों को दो तीन साल में विदेशों में पर्यटक स्थलों की अनिवार्य यात्रा आवश्यक होनी चाहिए।
  मै अपने अनुभव से कह सकता हूँ कि जब भी मैंने विदेश यात्रा की तब तब मुझे पर्यटन विपणन की समझ बढ़ती गयी।  जब जब मै गोवा की यात्रा करता था तो मुझे पर्यटन व्यवसाय में उत्तराखंड का सुखद भविस्य दिखता था।
           पर्यटन ब्यापार मानसिकता एक दिन में नही आ सकती है उसके लिए समाज को राजनीतिज्ञों पर दबाब बढ़ाकर विधायकों  , पंचायत अध्यक्षो के  जिला अध्यक्ष को विदेश यात्रा अनिवार्य करवानी चाहिए. जिससे ये शीर्षस्थ राजनीतिज्ञ पर्यटन व्यवसाय को समझ सकें और धीरे धीरे उत्तराखंड में पर्यटन व्यापार  मानसिकता आ सके।

Ek Dabal: A Poetry Collection Perusing Newer Style in Garhwali Poetry

              Garhwali poetry collection ' Ek Dabal ' by Shanti Prakash 'Jigyasu'will always remembered in Garhwali Poetry world for perusing New Style 'Chitga' . Ek Dabal is second Garhwali poetry collection by Shanti Prakash 'Jigyasu'. His first poetry collection is 'As'.
        There are 44 customary poems and 173 smaller poems in the present volume. Among free style smaller version of verses, there are 63 four lines poems, 110 two lines verses. The customary poems are also free verses.
             Chitga means forceful small drops. Chhitga is used always for awakening the person. In Garhwal, smaller poems had a long history perhaps before the Garhwali language took birth . In Garhwali, smallest version is called Bajuband Kavita and those versions are one of the smallest poems among other languages smallest poems. However, in Bajuband the poem should have fixed poetic style but in Chhitga there is no restriction.
From subjects' point of view, Jigyasu deals all common types of subject persist in Garhwal in present volume. The main Subjects of poems are -social changes, racism, relationships, responsibilities, corruption, environment, education, migration, unemployment, spirituality, geographical nature, human psychology and many more burning issues. His love for his mother shows in this present volume.
            His Chhitga are more important to describe as majorly those are satirical and makes naked the wrongs ones in the last line of all Chhitga. The satires of Chhitga are from mildest ones to sharpest ones. Though, the readers always demand for sharpest effects from smaller poems. No doubt, Jigyasu tries his best for offering sharper effects.
      The poet is successful in using various sayings, symbols for getting desired images in the reader's mind.
             The critics will remember the works of Shanti Prakash Jigyasu, in terms of new style, as critics remember Louis Zukofsky,   Jack Kerouac, Ashbery, Lesile Scalapina, Robert Frost, Paul Claudel, Guillaume Apollinaire etc who persuaded new style in their language poetries.

                       गढवळि प्रवासी ह्वाओ या कुमाऊंनी प्रवासी , पिथौरागढ़ कु प्रवासी ह्वावो या प्रतापनगर टीरी  प्रवासी ह्वावो वु खुदेड़ हूंद , प्रवास मा वै तै अपण गांवकी, मैत की अपण पुंगडुं  खुद भगवती  नंदा देवी से बि अधिक खुद लगदी।  कख्याक बि प्रवासी ह्वावो वु ड्यार जाण मा असमर्थ हूंद अर गढ़वाल , का कुमाऊं  बारा मा वै तै जू बि खबर सार , रंत रैबार , समाचार मिल्दन वु इ जाणिक बड़ो भावुक ह्वे जांद कि गाँव मा कूड़ उजड़ना छन , पुंगड़ बांज पड़ना छन , स्कूल बच्चा बिहीन हूणा छन तो वु बड़ो व्यथित ह्वे जांद , बड़ो दुखी ह्वे जांद , चिंता से वु बेहोस ह्वे जांद।  सामाजिक वैदराज , अंजुमन हकीम सोसल डाक्टर इन व्यथित , खिन्न , उदास भावुक प्राणी तै सलाह दींदन बल इख शहर मा एक सामाजिक संस्था खोल जांसे उख गढ़वाल मा कूड़ आबाद ह्वे जावन , कूड़ मा मूसुं जगा मनिख रौण लग जावन अर पुंगड़ु मा मळसु फुळणो मरसु फुळण लग जावन।  बिचारा खुदेड़ प्रवासी जानवर  गढवळि गांवुं मा घट घर्र घर्र करवाणो बान , छनि -गौशाला मा स्याळु जगा गौड़ी बाँधणो बान , जंगळु मा लैन्टिना की जगा बांज -बुरांश उगाणो बान शहर मा संस्था खोली दींदु।  संस्था तो गढवळि प्राणी को ही च तो वु पैल पैल  शहर मा तूफ़ान , औडळ -बीडळ अर गाड -गदनो तरां बाढ़ लै जांद।   संस्था का बरसाती गदन वळ कार्यों से प्रवास्युं तै लगद बल या प्रवासी संस्था अवश्य ही गढ़वाल का कायापलट कर द्याली ।  किन्तु रघुकुल रीति सदा चल आई , गढ़वळि संस्था तूफ़ान , झंझावत, ज्वार  की तरां आन्दि अर भ्युंचळ , भाटा कु तरां कुछ हफ्तों मा सुन्न पड़ जांद।  उख जनि एक कूड़ उजड़दो ,इख एक संस्था खड़ी हूंदी।  उख एक पुंगड़ बांज पड़द त इख एक संस्था बांज पड़द।

                     Sudarshan Meeting with Moorcroft
            According to Records of Tehri Riyasat, Sudarshan Shah met Moorcroft and his son (as in record- Moorkirpat sahib and Chhota sahib Moorkirpat).  Moorcroft was superintendent of Stable in Tiruht. In 1812, Moorcroft visited west Tibet via Garhwal in dress of a sage. From 1812, Moorcroft was eager to push Gurkha east of Kali River. Along with Hearsay, Harsh Dev Joshi and Sudarshan Shah, Moorcroft sent strategic information to John Adam and Governor General for displacing Gurkha from Central Himalaya. The timing would be 1811-12 for meeting of Sudarshan Shah with Moorcroft and his son.
   In 1818, Moorcroft reached to Tehri and met Sudarshan Shah. On that time he did not have his son with him.

      It seems that Sudarshan Shah met the Lord Lake in Punjab. In record it is written that Sudarshan Shah met 'Ssaikal Sahab' of Karnal and Hansi wale Sikandar sahab' in Karnal. Hansi Sikandar is recognized as Colonel Skiner.
It seems that in rainy season of 1814, Sudarshan Shah met Ochterloni. On 21st August, Ochterloni sent a letter to John Adam that the Company should capture Dehradun, Karyadoon, Sirmour and should hand over the territories to their respective past Kings for getting buffer trade territory for Company reaching to Tibet.

                                               इतिहास विद्यार्थी ::: भीष्म कुकरेती

         पुराणों में कलियुग के राजवंश वर्णन में सोलह शक शासकों का उल्लेख हुआ है (भागवतपुराण )। संबनःवत्य शक नरेशों के साथ पह्लवी नरेशों को भी जोड़ दिया गया होगा। पह्लव जाति ने मोग मृत्यु पश्चात भारत में प्रवेश किया था। पहलवियों ने गांधार आदि स्थानों में छोटी छोटी ठकुराईयां स्थापित की  थीं। यवन ठकुराइयों को पह्लवि ठकुराइयों ने ही मिटाया।
        विशुनपुराण में उल्लेख है कि -ततः शोडस शका भूपतयो भवितारः।  तत्श्चाष्टो यवनाः।  याने सोलह शक राजाओं के बाद आठ यवननरेश हुए। इतिहास में यवनों के पश्चात शक शासन शुरू हुआ था।
  शक भी यवनों के समान अत्याचारी थे और प्रजा इनके राज में  थी। शक कई कर लगते थे , प्रजा का अपहरण करते थे, जनता को  पीड़ित करते थे व शक अतिलोलुप थे (भागवत पुराण )।
                                     शक संस्कृति .
शक अलग समय पर भारत में आये अतः सबकी संस्कृति समनं नही रही होगी।  अष्टाधायी से पता चलता है कि  400 BC  से भी पहले कभी शक जाति का प्रसार तब का पश्चिम भारत में हो चुका था।  प्राचीन संकलनगर का संबंध शक जाति से जोड़ा जात्ता है। पतंजलि ने यवन , शक , गब्दीक (चम्बा के गद्दी ) , क्रौंच (माणा ) , शौर्य (कुमाऊं का सौन्कीद्वार ) को आर्यव्रत से बाहर माना है।
                           कई  शक जातियां  घुमन्तु पशुचारक जाति थी जो हिमालय व सहारनपुर , हरिद्वार , बिजनौर आदि स्थानों में भी पशुओं के साथ आये और घुमन्तु जीवन बिताते बिताते कृषि कार्य  करने लगे और फिर खस जाति मे विलीन हो गयीं।  इसके बाद कुषाण पशुचारक भी शक पशुचारकों से मिल गए और आज भी हिमालय में कश्मीर से उत्तराखंड व तलहटी में बणगुजर के रूप में विद्यमान है और भाभर में भी विद्यमान रहे हैं। 

                           आकृति व वेशभूषा
       साइथियन जाति के प्राचीन चित्रों तथा ईरान की शक जातियों के चित्रों में समानता होने से दोनों जातियों को एक ही वर्ण का माना जाता है।  शक जाति के लोगों का रंग गोरा था और दाढ़ी मूछ में आर्यों से मिलते  थे व द्रविड़ , कॉल , मंगोल जातियों से सर्वथा भिन्न थीं।
     शकों की घनी दाढ़ी व लम्बे बाल होते थे।  शकों ककी नाक तीखी व ऊपर उठी होती थी।  शकों की भौंवें ऊंची व आँखे गनहरी होती थी।
            शक पूरी बांह का जैकेट , व सलवार ऊपर की और ढीला व नीचे तंग कपड़े पहनते थे। शक ऊंची व नुककीली टोपियां पहनते थे।
                         शक अश्वाराही व पशुचारक थे।  कमर में खड्ग लिए चलते थे।  चंदे के जुटे पहनने वाले शक सलवार को जूतों के अंदर खूंसे रहते थे। एड़ी व घुटनों के मध्य चमड़े की पट्टी घुसेड़े रहते थे।

          Kafal: The Pearl Garland of Garhwali Lyrics

(Garhwali Poetry collection 'Kafal' by Darshan Singh Bisht: A Literary Analysis)

              Famous Garhwali Poet and Story teller Narendra Gauniyal rightly states that the 'Kafal' Lyrics collection by Darshan Singh Bisht is Garland of Perl.
             'Kafal' is the send poetry collection by Darshan Singh Bisht.
The present lyrics collection has 67 Lyrics. The subject of collection starts from prayer of Sarswati and deals with burning issues as –unemployment, migration, migration resulted separation pain, corruption etc. The poet also deals with imagery of Garhwal. There are spiritual lyrics but easily understandable.
         There most of eight raptures barring abhorrence rapture.  The poet is successful in creating desired rapture results in each poem. He is in his best for showing geographical images of Garhwal.

मि -फिर जु सुबेराक स्कूल ह्वावु त दूर पाणी बिटेन एक बंठी पाणी लांदु छौ अर दिनाक स्कूल हो तो स्कूल जाण से पैलि तीन बंठी पाणी लांद छौ।

ब्वे -अर फिर सुबेराक स्कूल हो तो द्वी मील उकाळिक  --उंधारिक रस्ता से स्कूल जांद छौ ?
मि -हाँ।

ब्वे -फिर स्कूल बिटेन घौर ऐक क्या करदो छौ ?
मि -भूक इथगा तेज लगदी छे कि जू बि हो सो घळा -घळ घूळि  दींद छौ।

ब्वे -अच्छा ! इख क्या हूंद ?

मि -इख ? मुंबई मा ?

ब्वे -हाँ मुंबई मा ?
मि -कुछ ना।  कार से ऑफिस जाण , कार से आण।  अर ऑफिसम बस काम कु तनाव बस।

ब्वे -मतलब तू अब कुछ बि शारीरिक काम नि करदि ?
मि -नै जब सब सहूलियत छन तो क्यांक काम ?

ब्वे -अब जब शरीर से काम नि होलु तो भूक बि लगलि ?
मि -हूँ ! शायद कम लगलि। हाँ तेज भूक तो बिलकुल नि लगदी।
ब्वे -तो बुबा जब तेज भूक इ नि लगलि तो अमृत से   बि स्वाद हर्चि जांद।  शरीर से मशक्कत कौर अफिक भूक लगलि , अफिक स्वाद आलो।

                 Archibald Seton was Resident in the court of Shah lam II from 1806-1811. Then Moorcroft became resident and Gardner and Frazer were his assistants.  Delhi Residency was communicating with Central Himalayan Hill Sates. The Tehri records state that Sudarshan Shah communicated with Lat Yeral Maira Sa (Governor General Earl of Moyara). According to Tehri Records, Sudarshan Shah also met Adam. Tularam  a clerk under Frazer used to communicate with Hill Kings.
               Minya Prem Singh writes interesting incident about Sudarshan Shah meeting with Assistant Resident Frazer in 'Guldast Tabarikh'. When east India Company decided to push Gurkha from West of Kali River, Kriparam Saklani and Jwalaram Saklani met Frazer in Delhi. Deceptively, Both had left Gurkha administration and were on the side of Company. Kriparam Saklani and Jwalaram Saklani pretended them as the Heirs of Garhwal King. Saklani assured Frazer that barring them there was no heir of Garhwal King. Sudarshan Shah got that information from his well-wisher. Sudarshan Shah communicated with Rampur Nabab. Rampur Nabab offered suitable elite dress for Sudarshan Shah, elephants and horses. Nabab gave a letter for Frazer and sent Sudarshan Shah to Delhi for meeting Frazer in Delhi. When Sudarshan Shah handed over the introduction letter of Rampur Nabab to Frazer, Kriparam was there. When Kriparam understood that his lies was caught Kriparam bent before Sudarshan Shah and requested for pardon.
   Frazer accepted Sudarshan Shah as real heir of Garhwal King. Frazer advised Sudarshan Shah to meet Sir Edward Colebrook the agent of Governor General. Colebrook also accepted Sudarshan Shah as Heir of Garhwal King. Colebrook informed Sudarshan Shah that British army would attack on Dehradun and on that time Sudarshan Shah should accompany British Army. Colebrook also advised Sudarshan Shah to provoke Garhwali People for revolting against Gurkha (Preamble, Invasion of Nepal).
