                                               इतिहास विद्यार्थी ::: भीष्म कुकरेती

       
     शक अश्वारोही व पशुचारक जाति थी।  शक समाज का मुख्य भोजन दूध व मांश था।  संभवतया शक पशु और गिरे हुए शत्रु का गरम गरम रक्त भी पीठे थे (राहुल , मध्य एशिया का इतिहास ).
शक जाति प्याज लहसुन के बड़े शौक़ीन थे और संभवतया जंगली लादू /पलाण्डु (जंगली प्याज ) का प्रयोग हिमाचल व उत्तराखंड में शकों के आने से ही शुरू हुआ था. प्राचीन लेखकों के अनुसार शक युवतियों की सुंदरता का कारण उनका जंगली प्याज (Allium  cepa ) व लहसुन था (बाणभट्ट , अष्टांग संग्रह ) ।
  शक जाति में विवाह प्रथा अपने प्रारंभिक काल में थी - एक पत्नी के बहु पति या एक कुछ नारियों के साझे पति।  पूर्वी हिमकहल व पश्चमी उत्तराखंड में पहली  प्रथा स्वतंत्रता के बाद भी प्रचलित रही है। ये दोनों क्षेत्र सहारनपुर व हरिद्वार की सीमाओं पर स्थित हैं।

                       शक समाधियाँ और सती प्रथा का उद्धभव
   शक समाज मृतकों को मिश्री प्रथा अनुसार समाधि में दफनाते थे।  समान्तों समाधियों में के शव के साथ पत्नी , दासी , आयुध , आभूषण , औषधि आदि सुविधाजनक समान भी रखा जाता था। हिमाचल के लद्दाख , लेह व उत्तराखंड में (मलारी ) शक समाधि मिली हैं (डा डबराल )
शक अग्नि दाह चिता अग्नि का भी प्रयोग करते थे और पत्नी को भी शव के साथ जलाते थे।  राहुल का मानना है कि सती प्रथा की शुरुवात शक काल में हुई।

                आसा , नवप्रवर्तन , प्रगति कु  धड्वै : भीष्म कुकरेती

मि -क्या कहती तू ?
चिर सुंदरी भुंदरा बौ -सुणा ?
मि -चलती क्या खंडाला ?
चिरयौवना भुंदरा बौ -ह्याँ आज पंदरा अगस्त नि हूंद ना त मीन  त्यार बांठै धरणी छे।  पर पंदरा अगस्त च तो
मि -क्या मतलब  ये बौ ?
कांत कामिनी भुंदरा बौ -अबि कुछ दिन पैलि गाँव ऐ छौ तो त्यार सरा परिवार मसूरी ग्ये पर तब तो तीन नि ब्वाल -चलती क्या मसूरी ?
मि -उ उ उ क्या च  .......
भुंदरा बौ -अच्छा छोड़ हैप्पी इंडिपेंडेंस !
मि -वधाई।
भुंदरा बौ -आज क्या लिखणु छे आजादी दिन पर ?
मि -आज मि बंचनेरुं तै झकजोर दूंगा।  आज मै  लिखूंगा  कि किस तरह भारत सब चीज के लिए तरस रहा है।  आज ग् ग गढ़वाली दुनिया हिला दूंगा मै। हेर गढ़वाली को रुला दूंगा कि भारत कितना दुखी है।
भुंदरा बौ -एक बात बथादि जरा।
मि -पूछ।
भुंदरा बौ -जब तू पढ़दु छौ या मुंबई गे तो दस साल तक गाँव कनकै आंद छौ तब ?
मि -ये मेरी ब्वे ! अब तो सोची बि नि सकदु मि। दिल्ली उतरा फिर , मसूरी एक्सप्रेस की जग्वाळ , ऋषिकेश से   बस से सिंगटाळी।  फिर सिंगटाळी से गंगा पार करो अर छै मील की खड़ी चढ़ाई चढ़ो फिर एक मील तौळ उतरो।  क्या औसंद आदि छे।  मुंड मा भारु अर खड़ी उकाळ !
भुंदरा बौ -हाँ ऋषिकेश से गाँव आंद आंद पूरा एक दिन लग जांद छौ। अर  गाँव आणौ बान क्या करदि तू  अब ?
मि -अब तो भौत विकल्प छन हवाई जाज से जौली ग्रांट अर फिर टैक्सी ल्यावो अर तीन घंटा मा अपण ड्यार।  अर फिर ऋषिकेश से बि बस या टैक्सी छन।  आण जाण मा क्वी तकलीफ नी च अब।
भुंदरा बौ -गांमा पाणीक हाल क्या छन ?
मि -अरे भुंदरा बौ नि पूछ।  परिवार का द्वी आदिम तो पंद्यर बिटेन पाणि सारणों लग्यां रौंद छ।  मि त रुणफती ह्वे जांद छौ तब।
भुंदरा बौ -अर अब ?
मि -अब ! अरे अब तो गाँव मा नळ ऐ गेन।  अर मि घौर बि नि रौंद पर फिरबि म्यर घौरम सरकारी योजना से टंकी लगीं च।  पाणी  चुल्लुम पौंचि गे अब।
भुंदरा बौ -अच्छा।  रात बिरत गांमा कनकै चलदो छया तब ?
मि -अरे भुंदरा याद नि दिला तब कि।  रात माने रात।  ढिबरी -चिमनी का उज्यळ  मा पौढ़ि पौढ़िक म्यार आँख कमजोर ह्वे गे छया।  ओ तब !  तोबा तोबा तब !
भुंदरा बौ -अर अब ?
मि -अब क्या ? अब ?  गाँव मा बिजली ऐ गे अब।   उज्यळ ही उज्यळ च गाँमा अब।
भुंदरा बौ -मतलब बिजली , पाणी , सड़क मा सुधार ह्वे च कि ना ? याने  स्थिति बेहतर च अब ?
मि -शत प्रतिशत   स्थिति बेहतर छन अब।
भुंदरा बौ - क्या च आज ?
मि -स्वतंत्रता दिवस च आज।
भुंदरा बौ -याने आधुनिक भारतौ जनम दिन च आज।
मि - हाँ ! आधुनिक भारतौ जनम दिन च आज।
भुंदरा बौ -तू जनम दिन मनाणो दिन  तू आशावान रौंदी कि निराशावान ?
मि -आशावान।
भुंदरा बौ -तो फिर पंदरा अगस्तौ दिन किलै या निराशा ?
मि -ह्यां मि लेखक छौं तो म्यार काम च वीकनेस , कमजोरी खुज्याण।
भुंदरा बौ - अपण जन्म दिनों दिन आसा आवश्यक हूंदी ?
मि - प्रगति विचार , पिछ्ली सफलता पर ध्यान अर आशावान सोच जन्मदिनौ दिन आवश्यक हूंदी।
भुंदरा बौ -तो फिर भारतौ जनम दिनौ बान नई सोच , प्रगतिवादी , नव अन्वेषकी सोच आवश्यक नि हूंदी ?
मि -ऊं ऊं ...
भुंदरा बौ -क्या ऊं ऊं?
मि -हाँ हाँ भारतौ जनम दिनौ बान नई सोच , प्रगतिवादी , नव अन्वेषकी सोच आवश्यक  हूंदी।
भुंदरा बौ -बस अब ठीक च जै हिन्द !  जै उत्तराखंड !
मि -जै हिन्द ! , जै महाराष्ट्र !

              Sudarshan Shah meeting British Army officers

Whereabouts of King Designated Sudarshan Shah during Gurkha/Gorkha Rule -15

         After meeting with Colebrook, happily, Sudarshan Shah returned to Kankhal. Now, Sudarshan Shah was waiting for British Army of Meerut attacking to Dehradun. According to records of Tehri Court, Sudarshan Shah met following British Army officials (Minyan Prem Singh) –
Janrail Jilapsin Sahab (Major Gene. R. R. Gillespie) major General Gillespie was appointed the commander of Third Command for attacking Dehradun.
Karnail Maubi sahib( Colonel Maubi ) –Maubi was assisting Gillespie and he was ordered to attack on Khalangagarhi.
Major Baldik (Major  Baldock) – Major Baldock participated in khalanga Battle and then he was sent to Jauntgarh for capturing Nepalese Commander Balbhadra. Sudarshan Shah was with Major Baldock while capturing Shrinagar.
Mejor Madil sahib (  Major General  Martindell )-  Major Martindell was in charge for capturing nahan and Jaithuak.
Bartan , Ras , Alakjaran Sahab- They were recognized as Burton, Rous and Alexander.    Rous was assisting Ochterloni.
Kaptan Ang (Captain Young)- Lieutenant Young was sent for capturing Timlighat and Yamuna Ports.
Karnal Keri (Major Kelly )- Major Kelly participated in second attack on Khalanga Battle.
Prinseep sahib- Henry Principe had been famous Historian and was present at Nahan Battle.   
The other army personals recorded in records of Their Court could not be recognized.
   British officials understood the importance of Sudarshan Shah in attacking to Dehradun, Nahan and Garhwal. Therefore, British high command ordered its officials

Hari Raising Folk Story from Kuntani- Khaman, Dabralsyun Garhwal 
                     (Garhwali Folk Tales /Community from Garhwal Series-119)

                Kuntani and Khaman are two neighboring villages. Both the villages come under Dabralsyun Patti. However, near past, Khaman was under Malla Dhangu Patti. Most of the villages of Dabralsyun are dominated by Dabral barring Khaman that is dominated by Kukreti and a few families of Pant and Lakhera. The folk tales sate that a Dabral of Dabar gifted Khaman to his daughter married to Kukreti of Gweel-Jaspur.
        There is a territory called Jamarkholi in Kuntani village. Jamarkholi is at boundary of Khaman and Kuntani villages.
   It is said that in long past, Jamarkholi was the area of Khaman village.  A woman called Bhaddu was from Khaman and married to a Dabral of Kuntani. It is said that either she loved Jamarkholi very much or was unhappy with her Mayaka (parental village).
       By all means Mrs. Bhaddu Dabral wanted Jamarkholi as the part of Kuntani village (her in law village). She asked Khaman people to grant Jamarkholi to Kuntani village. Khaman People refused to gift the economical land to Kuntani.
           Mrs. Bhaddu Dabral was bent for Jamarkholi territory as part of her in law village. When Khaman people did not agree for gifting Jamarkholi to Kuntani she took a terrifying decision.
         Bhaddu reached to high top of Jamarkholi and cut beheaded her head by a heavy sickle (Thmali). While cutting her head, Bhaddu cursed that "Till the place from here my head reaches that area would be of Kuntani and if Khaman people try to plough they would not be successful in plowing the area". Her cut head reached down at Sisai Dang (there is water source too). Even after her death Khaman people did not gift the land to Kuntani people.
   However, when Khaman farmers started plough in the fields of Jamarkholi, snakes surrounded plough, yoke of plough and bulls legs. Khaman people understood the cursing of Bhaddu. Khaman people gifted Jamarkholi area to Kuntani people.
  From that day, Jamarkholi area is under Kuntani village.

                  15 अगस्तौ दिन हमर बिल्डिंग मा छत मा झंडारोहण हूंद अर तकरीबन हरेक परिवार से एक तो भाग लींद इ छौ। मी बि अर बिल्डिंगौ बच्चा बि भाग लींद छा। ब्याळि मि फेसबुक मा स्वतंत्रता सिव्स पर सैकड़ों पोस्टित फोटो तैं  Like मा व्यस्त रौं तो मि झंडारोहण मा नि जै सौक।  बाद मा पता चल कि सिर्फ पांच आदिम छतम झंडारोहणो गेन अर वू बि इलैकि ऊँ तै कम्प्यूटर चलाण नि आंद।  कारण यु छौ बल अधिकतर वर्डस्प पर इंडिपेंडेंट डे -इंडिपेंडेंट डे खिलणम व्यस्त छया।  बात बि सै च बल जब हम्म वर्चुवल वर्ल्ड ऐ जावो तो असली संसार की क्या जरूरत ?

               इंटरनेट मा श्रद्धेय सर्वोदयी कार्यकर्ता मानसिंह रावत जी तै जमनालाल बजाज पुरूस्कार मील पर दसियों खबर क्लिप ऐन।  सब्युंन वधाई दे।  इथगा दिन ह्वे गेन कैन बि मानसिंह  जीक जीवनी पोस्ट नि कार। हूंद च हूंद च।  प्रचार का युग , प्रोपेगैंडा अरा मा सज्जन आदम्युंक जीवनी नि लिखे जान्दि।

           कुछ कौंग्रेसी बल हरिद्वारौ सांसद डा रमेश निशंक का घर सोनिया गांधी का झंडा लेक विरोध करणा गेन अर पुंछणा गेन कि -बताओ उत्तराखंड में क्या विकास हो रहा है ?

हाँ सांसदुं तै पुछ्ण जरूरी च।  पर कौंग्रेस्यूं तै सोनिया गांधी अर मनमोहन जी तैं बि पुछण  चयेंद कि 2004 से 2014 तक उत्तराखंड मा कथगा विकास ह्वे ?

        अच्काल समज मा नि आंद कि विज्ञापन समाचार छन या समाचार विज्ञापन छन।

         पत्रकारों से पूछे जांद कि अज्काल तुम लोग बेकार बेकार का गुंवण्या -मुतण्या  समाचार पैलो पेज पर दींदा अर कामक समाचार कखि विज्ञापनों बीच दे दींदा।  किलै भै ? पत्रकारुं जबाब हूंद बल जब शीर्षथ नेतृत्व गुंवण्या -मुतण्या ह्वे जावो तो मुख्य कवर पेज का समाचार बि गुंवण्या -मुतण्या ही ह्वाला।  पर नेताओं बुलण च बल अब जब पत्रकार ही गुंवण्या -मुतण्या ह्वाला तो समाचार बि गुंवण्या -मुतण्या ह्वाला।  असल मा पत्रकार 100 % सही छन अर नेता बि 100 % सही छन। 

      अच्काल ढोल -दमाऊ चर्चा मा च कि ढोल दमाऊ उत्तराखंड का राष्ट्रीय वाद्य यंत्र ह्वालो।  हरीश रावत जीन अपण ढोल पिटणो बान इ सै पर सुखद कदम उठाई।

      भौत सा गढ़वाली -कुमाउनी बिठ, सवर्ण संस्कृति खतम हूणै बात करणा रौंदन।  यि सबि बिठ गढ़वाली -कुमाउँनी संस्कृति खतम हूण पर बाल्टी भरिक आंसू बगांदन।  जब संस्कृति का रचनाकारों याने गढ़वाल -कुमाऊं का शिल्पकारों से मि पुछ्दु कि  संस्कृति बचाओ आंदोलन का बारा मा आप लोगुं क्या ख़याल च ? तो ऊंक जबाब हूंद - भाड़ में जाए आपकी संस्कृति , गुदनड़ जाए ये आपकी संस्कृति ! मतलब तुम सवर्ण चाहते हो कि आपकी संस्कृति बचाने हेतु हम अब भी अछूत ही बने रहे ?

शिल्पकारुं बात मा दम च बल गढ़वाल -कुमाऊं की संस्कृति बचाणो मतलब जाति प्रथा तै ज़िंदा रखण।  मेरी समज मा संस्कृति जाये भाड़ मा पर जाति प्रथा खतम हूणि चयेंद।

          After returning from Farukhabad Sudarshan Shah started contacting influential Garhwalis of Garhwal.  Kankhal, Jwalapur , Haridwar were under East India Company. Rishikesh was asmall village. Garhwal King and Gurkha administrators donated the land to Bharat Mandir. People from Dehradun and Dahngu , Udaypur, Langur, Ajmir used to come to Rishikesh for selling their commodities and purchasing other materials. When Gurkha administrators came to know that East India Company personnel were contacting Garhwalis for betraying Gurkha (Jain-bejai, Khechal) Gurkha stopped Garhwalis visiting Rishikesh and other bordering markets for trade.   However, it was not possible to watch on each jungle and paths going to Rishikesh and other wholesale market.
     Though, there was no letter available but it was sure that Sudarshan Shah contacted influential Garhwalis and provoked them against Gurkha.
  Mahipat Shah offered Dhangu, in Jagir to Butola as he helped Mahipat Shah against Bhanushahi. When Gorkha came to Garhwal as ruler , Dan Singh Butola revolted against Gurkha of Dhangu escaped to Lal Dhang. Gurkha took over Dhangu Kagir from Butola family. Khara (the land of Hearsay given to Sudarshan Shah) was near Laldhang. Perhaps Dan Singh Butola met Sudarshan Shah .
      In those days, two educated Garhwalis helped East India company. One was in service of Houseson. Houseson described him the local of Shrinagar but did not write his name. He helped Haouseson in getting information of Garhwal (Pillimor). Second person was Tularam; Frazer corresponded with Tularam for information about people of Jaunsar Frazer, Himala Mountains).
     Saknayni brothers helped Gurkha at the time of Gurkha entering Dehradun (1803-04). Saknyani brothers Shiv Ram and Kashiram were active in helping East India Company. They provoked the villagers against Gurkha (Frazer).

                Dr Govind Chatak rightly said that Garhwali Hindi Shabdkosh (Garhwali to Hindi Dictionary) is a great achievement for Garhwalis.
           Arvind Purohit, Beena Benjwal compiled and Ramakant Benjwal edited 2nd edition of Garhwali Hindi Shabdkosh.  Arvind Purohit, Beena Benjwal and Ramakant Benjwal have done a commendable job for Garhwali language and are beneficial for future generation.
  Before first edition of Garhwali Hindi Shabdkosh, Mal Chand Ramola and Jay Lal Verma published small size dictionaries separately below 3000 words.
Present volume of Garhwali Hindi Shabdkosh has more than 21000 words.
    Since the dictionary is Garhwali to Hindi Shabdkosh there was no need for offering how to pronounce or spell.
       The compilers tried to provide different local words for the same word.  Since, Garhwali is not standardized either by government or by any agency the compilers tried offering all available local words for the same meaning. Wherever possible or necessary, editors provide the dialect locality names- Tihriyali, Rathi, Jaunsari etc.
   This edition tells us different meaning of words those have different meaning.
Wherever necessary, compilers or editors provide uses of words.
   There are grammar explanation for each word that is for example noun, singular or plural numbers, gender-female, male neutral and tense etc in the dictionary
Wherever there are synonyms the editors offer synonyms.
  There are 300 Caste names included in this volume with short history too.
      Though not for every word, but wherever possible, editors provide the root language for the words-Sanskrit, English, Persian, Arabic.
  Apart from the meaning of words starting from 'A' to 'H', editors offered important 47 additional chapters  as words of different genes as plants, animals, dressing, body parts etc;;Tantra Mantra words; village names colour,; counting; days, week and starts; emotional words; taste related words; synonyms; adjectives;, comparable words; prefix and suffix usages; proverbs; riddles etc.
       The dictionary is really useful for those who want to learn Garhwali and who wish to enrich their Garhwali vocabulary.
            The present volume of Garhwali- Hindi Dictionary also paves the way for standardizing Garhwali language.

                        ब्याळि (16 /8 /2015 )  , मध्यप्रदेश मा भाजपा दस नगरपालिका मादे आठ नगरपालिकाओं चुनाव क्या जीति कि मध्य प्रदेशौ सुब्बा (सूबे का नेता ) शिवराज सिंह चौहान खुशि मा उतणु ह्वे ग्याइ  , घ्वाड़ा तरां घिलमुंडि खाण लग ग्याइ  अर खुशि मा अंट शंट बखण लग ग्याइ ।  सूबा  कु सूबेदार जीक बुलण च बल भाजपा द्वारा चुनौ जितण मतलब कॉंग्रेस तै व्यापम घोटाला कु जबाब। अंट संट बखण पागलपन  निशाणि बि माने जांद।

             ये जी सुब्बेदार जी ! चौहान जी ! यदि चुनाव जितण , चुनावी जंग जितण , चुनावी युद्ध जितण गुनाह मुक्ति दवा च तो फिर भाजपा आज तक इंदिरा गांधी तै इमरजेंसी की गुनाहगार किलै माणदि ? बार बार आप लोग आज बि इंदिरा गांधी पर भगार किलै लगौंदा भै ?

                     ये जी जै राज्य मा व्यापम जन सालों साल तक चलण वळ बड़ो घोटाला हो वै राज्य का मुखिया जी ! आदर्श घोटाला  अभियोगी , महाराष्ट्र का भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री अशोक चौहाण चुनाव जीति गे तो क्या अब अशोक चौहाण शहीदों की विधवावों का फ़्लैट छिनण वाळ अपराधी नी च ?

                     मध्य प्रदेश का मुख्यमंत्री जी ! आपक हिसाब से तो जु बि चुनाव जीत जांद वो अपराध मुक्त ह्वे जांद। तो फिर छगन भुजबल तो चुनाव जीत तो फिर वै का घर अर ऑफिसों पर छापामारी किलै भै शिवराज जी ?

          चौहान जी ! भौत सा डॉन जेल भीतर बिटेन चुनौ जीत जांदन वांक मतलब यु समजे जावो कि यी धुर्या नि छन , गुनाहगार नि  छन , जघन्य अपराधी नि छन ? गुजरात का मंत्री  सोलंकी जी चुनौ जितणा इ रौंदन तो क्या यूँ पर भ्रस्टाचार का मुकदमा खारिज करे जावु ?

           चौहान जी चारा घोटाला का राजा लालू यादव तो कथगा इ चुनाव जीती गे तो क्या वैक गुनाह माफ़ कर दिए जावन।?

               यदि भोळ दुनिया  ठगुं का ठग दाऊद इब्राहिम या ठगराज ललित मोदी भारत आंदन अर जब तक यूँ पर अपराध सिद्ध हूंद वांसे पैल इ चुनाव जीत जावन तो यी अपराधी नि छन ?

             शिवराज जी ! भाजपा हजारों चुनाव बि जीत जावो तो भी आपका नेतृत्व मा व्यापम सरीखा घोटाला सालो तक हूणु राइ का गुनाह तो अवश्य रालो ।  चौहान जी ! आप सूबा का मुखिया छया तो घोटाला ह्वाई च अर आपक राज मा ह्वाइ तो यांक दाग , धब्बा , गुवांण , मुताण की गंध तो आप पर हजारों साल तक राली कि ना ? या चुनौ जितण से गुवांण , मुताण की गंध समाप्त ह्वे जाली ?    मनमोहन सिंह जी गुनहगार नि छया किन्तु ऊंक राज मा घोटाला ह्वेन यांक दाग धब्बा तो मनमोहन जी पर राला ही तो चौहान जी ! उनि  इतिहास आप का कलुषित नेतृत्व तै माफ़ नि कौर सकद।

                          Sudarshan Shah Saving Frazer's Life

              Delhi Resident Metcalf ordered his assistant Frazer to reach Haridwar in second week of October 1814. Frazer was asked to meet Garhwal King Heir Sudarshan Shah to get information and to share if necessary.  Frazer was asked to reach Meerut for future battle campaign of Dehradun after meeting Sudarshan Shah.
    Sudarshan Shah was a natural hunter of Lion and in 1803, painter Ajabram painted Sudarshan Shah and his brother Devi Singh hunting Lion.
Frazer was also keen hunter and did not use elephant or other help in hunting the Lion.  Sudarshan Shah invited Frazer for lion hunting and perhaps Frazer sat on the seat on Elephant. Frazer fired gun on a lion and injured lion jumped on elephant of Frazer. Frazer life was in danger. Watching the situation, Sudarshan Shah came for rescue and fired on injured lion. Shah saved life of Frazer. When the news reached to Company offices, Company officials praised the courage of Sudarshan Shah.
  Frazer reached to Meerut and Sudarshan Shah stayed back in Kankhal.
           When the company army reached to Dehradun, Sudarshan Shah, Shiv Ram and Kashiram also reached to Dehradun and met the Company officials.
  According to Treasure record of Tehri Riyasat, Sudarshan Shah reached to Dehradun from Jwalapur Haridwar with Major Baldock and Lieutenant Menirith.
