                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
            Chandra Mohan Raturi was said to be a bold poet in illustrating the fact (Bahuguna, Shailvani). Chandra Mohan Raturi was born in 1880 in village Godi, Tehri Garhwal, Asia. Raturi expired in 19120 at early age.
   Chandramohan Raturi created Poems as -

His poems are emotional.  He was expert of Chivalry and patriotic raptures. Due to using more figures of speech, his poems are not understood by common readers.   Gairola put the place of Chandra Mohan Raturi with Shaily and Keats.

क्या हम कवि पुत्र सरस्वती का
ब्रह्मा की अंधी अर काळि सृष्टि
का आँख मुखीर स्वयं विधाता -
क्या हमन कैकि करणी अपेक्षा ?
क्या छन स्त्रियों का मुख नेत्र पद्म,
बिना हमारी प्रतिभा की किरणयों ?
क्या बीरू का कर्म विचित्र अद्भुत,
बिना हमारी फिरदार बाणी ?
हे नी छ क्या या प्रकृति ही सारी,
निर्जीव बेढंग अर शून्य जंगळ
देवत्व , सौंदर्य , सहानुभूति -
संचारणी शक्ति बिना हमारी ?
तजिक तब सब ग्लानि , लीक बाणी की बीणा
प्रमुदित मन से आपुच्च स्वरसे ही अपणा
परबत बण गंगा बद्री केदार राजा
सब भड़ गढ़ का यै देश की कीर्ति गायैं। .

         Chandramohan Raturi was a great social worker, Garhwali lover, patriotic, liberal and was having many more human qualities. His contemporary loved Raturi a lot. That is why Devendra Saklani (another Garhwali poet) wrote a long sad poem on the death of Chandra Mohan Raturi.

रुवै निराशा सब इष्ट मित्रु कू
अयोग्य अपणा नित पैक शीघ्र तू
असार संसार कु छोड़िगे अहो !

गूंगा पहाडुं कि हर साल
रुड्युं मा हूंदी बरसी
देखिक गौरा! 
मिजाण स्वचणी होली
यां खुणि रौं मि
घत्याणू चिपको -चिपको

               Harish Badola: the Asian Garhwali Poet of Varied Theme, colors and Images

                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
   Harish Badola is one of the pillars of last end of twentieth century. Though, his poetry collection 'Pasyo ko Rang' was published in 2016 Harish Badola have been publishing his poetries in various regional magazines and was regularly announcing poetries from Akashvani Lucknow.
   Already, Harish published more than 100 Garhwali poems.
  Harish Badola born in 1952 in Jajedi, Patti Kolagadh , Pauri Garhwal. Badola is famous for his role as Drama Activist in Hindi and Garhwali too.
          Badola created Garhwali poems of varied subjects and most of poems are realted to Garhwal and its soil. The subject varied from mother and her struggle and pain; environment, new problems due to heavy migration, new social changes those brought newer challenges and unheard situations occurring; now political lowness, philosophy etc.
           Badola created poems of rhyme and non-rhyme poetries. However melody is found both types of poems. Badola uses Garhwali phrases in illustrating Garhwal images. Famous Drama Activist Urmil Thapliyal appreciated Badola for using extinct Garhwali words. Badola uses satire many times for criticizing the worsening situation in society and administration and political field.

टीसी - अर सी बीच मा एक फेमिली च ऊँ मांगन 200 रुपया एक्स्ट्रा ले ले।  फेमिली वळ छन कखि जै बि नि सकदन। बुबा बोलिक ऐक्स्ट्रा  द्याला।

              From European standard, Almora was small city but from Himalayan point of view, Almora had important city. Old name of Almora was Khamgara. Almora was situated from North –West to South east for 6 Farlang. There was only one main road for entering Almora. The main road was surrounded by stones and houses were built on both sides of road. The ground floor of hoses was built by plain stones and upper floor was built by wood.
  There were two forts in Almora. A Fort was in the middle of Almora city. Another Fort Dalmandi Fort of Almora was at south corner of the city. The mud-stone walls of those forts were not more than 8 feet height. However, both the forts were situated on hillocks and therefore, perceived as very high forts. 
There was another hill range parallel to Khmagara hill east and was connected by narrow rivulet. That hill range was enough to defend some part of Almora. Gurkha soldiers built fences and ditches there. The biggest fence was in Sitauli hillock where Gurkha soldiers were there. Sitauli camp was as good as main Gurkha army camp. There was steep valley around Situali hill.  On north of Sitauli, Katarmal Hill was there.
  On 25th April 1815, Angad Sardar was standing in Pandkhola villages situated in  Sitauli hill with soldiers. Chamu Bhandar and his soldiers were in between Kosi River and Katarmal Hill 2 miles away in west of city. Other soldiers were under Bamshah.
British informers offered following information about Gurkha army-
Out of Almora city – 900 Gurkha soldiers and other 600 soldiers
In Almora city- 150 soldiers under Bamshah
       --------------- 60 under Ranshoor karki
Chhakhata Garhi – 200 soldiers
Pali Pachhaun – 200 (out of those 150 were in Naithanagarh)
Katolgarh- 200 soldiers
As per Premble, there were not more than 2000 soldiers under Bamshah.

खाणू ,  पीणू , रोणू , हंसणो , सेणू सुपिनो सर्व विचार।
पूर्णविवाह किलै नि ऊंक , यो त ना समझूं मी नीक।

             At Nine Am, on 25th April 1815, Captain Laze returned to Katarmal with his army from Gannath. After four hours, Nicholas marched towards Sitolidhar (Almora) for attacking on Gurkha Camps. Nicholas advanced with first flank battalion of fourth Indian Regiment to North Sitolidhar.  He wanted fire Mortars for vacating Gurkha from their camps. On his right, parallel, L.C Gardner marched with irregular army.  The idea was vacating Gurkha from South Sitolidhar.
The path from Katarmal to Sitolidhar hillock was narrow and full of pebbles. After crossing Kosi River, Nicholas disciplined his army in line. Nicholas was having canons, mortars, and howitzer   on elephants. After two hours, by walking on steep territory, Nicholas reached at Sitolidhar. European officers were in front. As soon as Angad Sardar saw British army descending from Katarmal  for moving to  Sitolidhar hill, he informed to Bamshah. Bamshah kept only one 'Patti' army with him and he  sent balance soldiers with Sardar Bhavani Baksh for helping Angad Sardar. Bmashah could not sent more soldiers. Rangelu Sardar was to defend Lalmandi fort and soldiers were necessary at Chandalekh too. 
        First, Nicholas ordered for firing Howitzer on Gurkha. However, analyzing self confidence of his army, Nicholas decided direct humanly attack on Gurkha soldiers. The soldiers of Feipul captured tow three small camps (Bada) . Gurkha soldiers ran away from Bada. Gurkha soldiers left Janjal canon in their Bada (camp with wood or stone fence). According to letter of Bamshah for Amar Singh Thapa, Gurkha soldiers could not resist gun /canon fires of British army.

    मौर्य , शुंग काल में ब्राह्मणों ने संस्कृत विद्या व प्राचीन धर्मग्रंथों के पठन पाठन में कमी नहीं आने दी थी। जनता में संस्कृत के आकर्षण के कारण बौद्ध धर्मी आचार्यों ने भी संस्कृत में बौद्ध संबंधी साहित्य रचना शुरू किया।  प्रसिद्ध बौद्ध आचार्य अश्वघोष ने संस्कृत में दो महाकाव्य  और दो नाटकों की रचना की।
चरकसंहिता , ज्योतिष , कर्मकांड , नीति धर्मशास्त्र  ग्रन्थ इसी काल में संस्कृत में लिखे गए।
    संस्कृत आम जनों की भाषा नहीं थी  जैन व बुद्ध मतावलम्बियों को संस्कृत में रचना रचने के लिए बाध्य होना पड़ा।
हिमालय , बिजनौर , हरिद्वार में अवश्य ही संस्कृत विद्वान इस काल में रहे होंगे।

      Gyananand Semwal:  Asian, Garhwali Poet Strong Supporter of Women Rights

Critical and Chronological History of Modern Garhwali Poetry –11 A

          As the World poetry critics praises the works of poetess Louise Otto Peters (German Poet), Christan de Pisan (French), Lucrezia  Marinella ( Italian Poet), Annie Loisa Walker (England) June Jorden etc for their poetic works on Women Right same way, Critics appreciate Pundit  Gyana Nand Semwal for creating poetry for the woman rights when women right was even not thought in Garhwal.
             Less is known about Pundit Gyananand Semwal as initial Modern Garhwali poet.  Garhwali Poetry scholar Dr Jagdamba Prasad Kotnala brought the works of Gyananand Semwal in limelight. Dr Jagdamba Kotnala got the booklet Gyanodaya the Garhwali (Asian) poetry collection by Gyananand Semwal from Garhwali literature activist Satya Prasad Raturi, Mussoorie. Dr Kotnala have photocopy of 'Gyanodaya'.
      There is no mention of birth date, place of Pundit Gyananand or any other information about him in the poetry collection.  There is praise for King Narendra Shah of Tehri Kingdom and mention of Narendra Nagar city.  The time of establishing /building infrastructure Narendra Nagar is from 1921-24.There is an advertisement of Evens Frazer Company Mussoorie on back page of poetry collection.  Therefore, Satya Prasad Raturi guessed that the publication period of Gyanodaya would be 1924-1930.

                 The above titles are proof that there are varieties of subjects in the poetry collection 'Gyanodaya'. However, the main themes of the poet are Dharma (Right Path). His poems always support the women right as in Punarvivah, Budya Javain. He writes 'Khulla Gyana Nand' words and that means he was social rebellion and activist too.  The poems of Gyana Nand Semwal are sensitive and speak boldly. The poems are of high standard and melodious.  Gyana nand shows the pain of women smartly and is successful making the desired images. His poems are of contemporary Garhwali poetry style.
