Lets today discuss about history of surname "Upreti".

1. According to Pt. GangaDutt Upreti: Upreti are Maharstra Brahmin who migrated to Kumaun region from South India.

2. According to Pt. Rudra Dutt Pant: During the regime of Katyuri Kings, a person named "Shambhu Sharma" (Kanuajiya Brahmin) came to "Peti" Village from Doti(In Nepal). So they got their surname "Upreti" from their village "Peti".

3. According to Pt. Ramdutt: Upretis are Vajpayee Maharstra Brahmin migrated from southern india. The first person named "Shiv Prasad" came to "Mankot"(In Gangoli Region). The "Mankoti" king offered them a village called "Uptyeda" or "Uprada" along with high position in his cabinet.

So we can conclude that Pt. Ramdutt and Pt. GangaDutt are pointing to same history of Upretis and there are other Upretis who migrated from Nepal. I have come across with "Bharadwaj" Gotra of Upreti.
