Botanical names – Falconeria insignis, Sapium insigne
Garhwali name -- Khinna, खिन्न
Hindi name – Khinna, Khirun
Sanskrit name –Makulakah
Khinna or Sapium insigne is 10-12 feet height small tree with pointed leaves and exudes milky sap.
  Khinaa or Sapium insigne Myths
   
People use Khinaa or Sapium insigne twigs at the time of Bandhan rituals (बंधाण पूजा). Mostly, when the buffalo delivers the kid, before the owners start taking /using milk of buffalo, the owner performs Bandhan rituals (बंधाण पूजा). The ritual performers use dry Khinna twigs for touching milk and butter milk pots at the time of puja. 
      Traditional uses of Khinna, Sapium insigne
People use Khinaa mostly, for fencing purposes and as fuel too.
   People use Khinna tree for making Damru (Drum), floats, match boxes ( K. S. Negi and K.S. Kanwal, 2009,Indian journals of Traditional Knowledge).
Negi and Kanwal reported that people of Uttarakhand use Khinaa leaves as fish toxics for fishing. .

50 सेंटीमीटर पक्षी 1400  मीटर की ऊंचाई तक दक्षिण गढ़वाल के मैदानी हिस्सों में फलदार पेड़ों में पाया जाता है। धनेश भूमि पर  नहीं अत्ति केवल फल उठाने के वक्त  ही भूमि  पर उतरते हैं और पूर्णतया पेड़ों पर रहते हैं। सिलेटी रंग के  रोयें लिए   धनेश जोड़ों में पाए जाते हैं। आँख फीकी पीले रंग लिए होते हैं जिनके भौंहें हल्के निशान  लिए होते हैं। पेड़ के कोठर में घोसले बनाते हैं और मादा जब अंदर घुस जाती है तो कोठर को बंद कर  देते हैं , इतना ही छेद  बचा रहता है कि नर मादा को भोजन दे सके।

   अबि सि मीन चार पांच दिन पैल 'गिंदी हिंगोड़ ' पर छ्वीं क्या लगैन कि अब तक चमोली , उत्तरकाशी बिटेन बि Like अर Comments की बरखा हूणी  च।  त मि 'गिंदी '  संबंधी कथगा इ बथ समळण मिसे ग्यों। त ल्या एक हैंक फांकी )
जन कि मीन पैलि बत्ये याल छौ बल गंगासलाण म डाडामंडी (लंगूर ) , थलनदी (उदयपुर ), देवीखेत (दिख्यत , डबराल स्यूं ) अर कटघर (ढांगू ) मा मकरैणी  दिन चमड़ै हथगिंदी खिले जांद छे अर विद्वान् चक्रधर कंडवाल जीन खोज करिक बताई बल गंगासलाणम व आस पास 122 जगा हौर बि हिंगोड़ व हथगिंदी खिले जांद छै।  आकाशवाणी से यु वृत्तांत प्रसारित हुयुं च।
कटघर मा उदयपुर वर्सेज ढांगू की गिंदी प्रतियोगिता हूंदी छै।
   अब जब कटघर की गिंदी याद आली त फिर तो ढांगू का महेंद्र सिंग धोनी अर विराट कोहल्यूं  याद आण जरूरी च याने ढांगू का गिंदी सुपर स्टारों की याद आण जरूरी च।  अब चूंकि मि किताबुं दगड़्या छौ त खेल पत्रकार नि बण्यु सौक बस इतिहासकार बणिक रै ग्यों।  मतबल मि कठघर एकि दैं गिंदी म्याळा दिखणो  ग्यों त द्वी चार गिंदी सुपर स्टारों अलावा कै तैं नि जणदु छौ।
   जख तलक गिंदी का सुपर स्टारों सवाल छौ यी स्टार राजपूत घराना का ही  हूंद छा।  बामण बाहुल्य क्षेत्र हूणो बाद बि वैल्युएबल स्पोर्ट्समैन जजमान ही हूंद छ।   कछबोळी खाणो प्रतियोगिता हूंदी तो अवश्य ही बामण सुपर स्टार हूंदा किन्तु जखम हथ, खुट अर घुंड हलाणो बात हो त उखम बामण बुज्या बैठ जांद छा।  तुम जरा हॉकी , क्रिक्यट  मा बि दिखल्या त एकाद इ नाम मीलल किन्तु फोकट मा बड़ी बड़ी बात करण वळ अर कुछ नि करण खेल याने कम्युनिष्ट आंदोलन मा अधिसंख्य बामण इ मीलल।  हमर ढांगू म बि गिंदी का सुपर स्टार राजपूत ही हूंद था। शिल्पकार अर बामण दर्शक दीर्घा का सुपर स्टार हूंद छा याने कमेंट करणा उस्ताद ।
    जख तलक म्यार ददा- बुबा पीढ़ी क सवाल च त सौड़ (मल्ला ढांगू ) का जाबांज मर्दों मादे दिवान ददा , भरतु ददा , लूड़ा ददा आदि सुपर स्टार होंद छा अर चुपड़ा मगथ  उदयपुर का सुपर स्टार बि यूंकी जांबाजी की कथा अपण नात्यूं तैं सुणांद छा।
     हमन जु सुपर स्टार देखि छा ऊँ मादे मीन खुद सौड़म सौड़क सत्तर सिंग ददा , दयालु ददा , लुंगड़ी काका , गुबरा काका , मूसा काका सुपर स्टार छा।  हमर गांवक डक्खु दा , सुदामा दा, बिरजू दा ही गिण्यां -चुण्यां जांबाज छा।  हमर गांवक स्पोर्ट्समैन  केवल रण जी  ट्रॉफी तक सीमित छा याने सौड़ तक।  कटघर याने नेशनल टीम का जांबाज तो सौड़ का सत्तर सिंग ददा , दयालु ददा , लुंगड़ी काका , गुबरा काका , मूसा काका  छा।
        ढांगू -उदयपुर गिंदी प्रतियोगिता याने कटघर की बात हो अर बिछला ढांगू व तल्ला ढांगू वळुं  बात नि हो तो समजि ल्यावो आज बगैर साउथ अफ्रीका का क्रिकेट खेल की बात।  असली गिंदी सुपर स्टार तो बिछला ढांगू अर तल्ला ढांगू ही पैदा करद छा।  चूंकि मि खेल से इनि बितकुद छौ जन ममता बनर्जी मोदी से बितकदि तो मि तल्ला ढांगू क्या बिछला ढांगू का गिंदी सुपर स्टारों बारा मा इथगा इ जणदु जथगा डीएमके सुप्रीमो करुणानिधि हिंदी वर्णमाला जणदु।
    मि तैं बस याद च कि ज्वी बि कटघरक गिंदी देखिक आवो वो बिछला ढांगू खरीक का गिंदी मास्टर रतन सिंग , कंठु सिंग , गोपाल सिंग , आनंद सिंग अर खरीक का ही स्टारों का स्टार डुंकर सिंग जी की ही छ्वीं लगांद छा।  डुंकर सींग तै तो आज बि जसपुर वाळ याद करदन , झूट बुलणु हों तो  जसपुर क सोहन लाल मास्टर तैं पूछी ल्यावदी।
    अच्छा जब बि रग्बी,  हॉकी , फुटबाल याने बॉडी टचिंग गेम की बात ह्वावो तो खिलाड्यूं द्वारा हैंक खिलाड़ी खुट तोड़ू शैली या टैक्टिस की अवश्य ही बात होली।  तो सौड़ मा बि स्टार अपण शत्रुता सेटल करणो मौक़ा का फायदा उठाई ही लींदा छा पण बिंडी ना बस हिंगोड़ की स्टिक से खुट पर चोट करण।  हमर गांवक डक्खु दाक खुट पर एक द्वी दैं चोट स्टार वार मा इ लगि छे।
स्टार वार मा चोट द्वी कारणो से लगाए जांद छै एक तो आपस की अनबन अर दुसर होड़ याने कम्पीटीटिव स्पिरिट। 
    कटघरम बल सुपर स्टार वार बड़ी चलदी छै।  खिलाड़ी कबि कबि जुद्ध का जोद्धा  बणिक गुम चोट क्या भयंकर चोट करदा छा। हाथ , लात , मुंड , घुंड हथियार बण जांद छा।   इलै इ अंग्रेजों समय पर कटघर म एक खून माफ़ छौ याने यदि स्टार वार मा  मौत ह्वे जावो तो कत्ल नि मने जांद छौ।  कत्ल तैं खेल मनण अंग्रेजों से सिखणो आज बि जरूरत च।
    कटघरौ बारा म सूण  छौ बल  स्टार सुपर स्टार याने हाथ पैर तोड़ू स्टार उनि नि बौण सकुद छौ। स्टार सुपर स्टार याने घातक स्टार तबि बणदु छौ जब परोठी भरिक दारु नि घटकै द्यावो।  सूण  छौ बल दारु स्टार खिलाड़ी पर किलिंग इंस्टिंक्ट लै आंद छौ।  पता नी या दारु विरोध्युं साजिस च या असलियत च।  पता नी।

Hindi Name –Bhutkesi
Garhwali name –Bhutkeshi or Taggar
Kumaoni Name- Moor
Bhutkesi are found in Western Himalayas between 1800m to 3800 m.
                Traditional Medical Uses
Bhutkeshi is a hair less plant but its rhizomes are with long hair.  In Ayurveda, the rhizomes and fruits  fruits have medicinal values. Roots are used as nervine sedative.
         Bhutkeshi Myths
 
      There is perception among people that Rhizomes of Bhutkeshi ward off the evil spirit. Tantra –Mantra performers use Bhutkeshi rhizomes in local rituals. People keep Bhutkeshi rhizomes with them in houses for keeping off Bhut (Evil Spirit).

  भारत में उत्तराखंड में पाया जाने वाला 130 सेंटीमीटर   लम्बा बड़ा धनेश भरता का सबसे बड़ा धनेश है।  काळा रंग के बड़ा धनेश की  चोंच व सिरस्राण पीला होता है जबकि उड़ते हुए इसकी सफेद गला , धूमिल पीले बैंड /पत्तियां लिए पंख तल  व विशेष पूँछ दिखाई  देती है। Oriental Pied Hornbill (Athracoceros albirstris ) भी बड़ा धनेश के समान पक्षी होता है।
  बड़ा धनेश हरे भरे जंगलों में फलदार वृक्षों में वास करते हैं

33 सेंटीमीटर लम्बा अंगारा कठफोड़ा हिमालयी पक्षी है।  गले के नीचे हिस्सा   काला -सफेद चितकबरा होता है। हिमालयी कठफोड़ा की पीठ सुनहरे रंग का होता है. नर कठफोड़ा का सिर  व पूँछ गहरे लाल रंग का होता है जबकि मादा की पूँछ ही लाल होती है। यह कठफोड़ा अन्य कठफोड़ों से लम्बी चोंच व पपड़ीदार गले से अलग पहचाना जाता है

Botanical name: Nicotiana tobacum
Local name- Tamakhu
  Tobacco might have come in Uttarakhand around seventeenth century  and  got spread very fast. Tobacco smoking is common in Uttarakhand.
  Apart from common uses for smoking, wild tobacco is used for checking excessive growth (Dwijeebi, Dwijib, Doadjeeb) another tongue below main tongue.

      It is believed that many times, Sayyad or evil Muslim soul enter into body of  person and starts paining to the person (Pashwa).  For satisfying and getting rid of evil or good Muslim oul (called Sayyad), there are rituals performed by Tantrik-Mantrik and Jagri. In both the rituals) Tantra-Mantra and Ghadela), Tantrik  or Jagri offer tobacco cake (tobacco leave dust mixed with molasses ) with clove or burning Chilam   to the dissatisfied  or angry Muslim soul. The ritual is called Saidwali. After Sayyadwali or Saidwali (सैद्वाली, सैद्वाळी, सय्यदवाली  ). After Saidwali ritual, tobacco is burnt with clove on a cross road or place where the Pashwa was affected by Muslim soul.
There are two folk songs Saidywali as follows –
  If a person is effected by unsatisfied Muslim soul, the Mantrik, Jhadkhandi or Jagri start performing ritual , worshiping the unsatisfied  Muslim soul and start the ritual of Saidwali . The unsatisfied soul is offered Tobacco and the Jhadkhandi reads the Mantra

      कलवा बाबा सैद को सलाम
      रहिमन मुकुलकिशोर पठान तख़्त को सलाम
      फूलपरी बहन को सलाम
       हे मेरे मेहरबान, मेरे पे हो जाओ मेहरबान
       सलाम भाई सलल्म , सलाम

गढ़वळिम बि स्त्री या पुल्लिंग संबोधन मा कथगा दैं कनफ्यूजाण ह्वे जांद। मतलब घंघतोळ।
  अब वै दिन लंदनम जन्मयुं , लंदनम पड्यूं -लिख्यूं अर जिनेवा म काम करण वळ उमेश गाँव आयी त वै तैं बि बड़ी घंघतोळ  ह्वे गे।  लंदनम चूँकि वैकि दादी , ब्वे अर बुबा गढ़वळिम बचळेंदा छा तो गढ़वळि बिंगणम  क्वी बड़ी औसंद नि आंदि उमेश तैं।

रति -ना रे ना मि जरा छुटि सि गोळ मटोळ छौ त ददा जीन रति नाम धौर दे।  रति सोना तुलणो एक दाणी  हूंद।
उमेश - पर अब त तू बम्फर बफेलो याने मोटी भैंसी ह्वे गे।
रति - मि भैंसी जन दिखेंदु ?
उमेश - ना ना रटी क मुकाबला मा अब  ..

रति - ये लौड़ी ! खड़ी किलै छे।  आ न स्यु उमेश आयुं च त जरा वैकुण गैथुं भरीं रुटि बणाण।  तुम बि खैक जावो।
उमेश -रटी बऊ।  कांती आंटी त तेरी काकी इन लॉ लगद फिर तू लौड़ी किलै बुलणी छे।  अबि त तीन ब्वाल बल लौड़ी माने पुटरी, डॉटर।  फिर ?
रति - हाँ।  प्रेम मा सासु कुण बि लौड़ी बुले सक्यांद।  मि अर कांती सासु  इकउमर्या छंवां त हम एक हैंक तैं लौड़ी से भटे लींदा।
उमेश - ओ माई गौड !
रति - आवो ये जी ! तुम बि भर्यां रुटळ खैक जावो।
कांती - द छोरी ! आज ना अबि त मि भैंस पाणी खलांणो जाणु छौं।  दुसर दिन जब तू येकुण तुराणि पकैल  त  ..
उमेश - वन मिनट , वन मिनट ! रटी बाउ ट्यार पेरेंट्स त बच्यां छन पर कांटी आंटी ट्योकुण चोरी बुलणि च।
कांती - ये मीन चोरी ना छोरी ब्वाल।
उमेश - आं वयी वयी छोरी।  छोरी माने तो परेंटलेस मतबल जैंक ब्वे बाब नि ह्वावन।  रटी बऊ का फादर बि ज़िंदा छन अर मदर बि ज़िंदा तो रटी बऊ चोरी सॉरी छोरी कनै ह्वे ?
रति - उ क्या च , प्रेम मा छोरी बुले जावो तो वीं छोरी क अर्थ अनाथ नि हूंद।
उमेश - उफ़ व्हट ये गिंजारुपड़ी।
कांती - क्या ?
उमेश - कुच ना कुच ना।  इंग्लिश  मा बि गर्ल , डॉटर , वोमन , मैडम अर लेडी मा इनि गिंजारुपड़ी ह्वे जांद।
रति - उखम क्या च।  भाषा क्वी बि ह्वाओ कुछ ना कुछ गिंजारुपड़ी त ह्वेली इ।

Hindi Name- Mehal, Mole
Local name: Melu
Melu is a wild tree. People eat ripen fruits. The people use Melu leaves as fodder and use as wood too.
                   Himalayan Pear Myths
   Melu tree has religious importance in Holi festival
The Holi starts from the seventh day of shukla paksha (bright half of lunar month ) of Falgun month. Holashtak starts from this day. For the children, Holashtak is a day of celebration because for them this is the day for starting day of Hulli-mangan too. On this day' the elder youth go to the place where Melu (wild pear) is blooming and cut the blooming stem. The pundit establishes the soul of Holika in this stem through specific mantra and plants the bloomed stem into the selected ground for burning the Holi wood outside of the village. This flowered stem becomes the symbol of Holika . On this day only, the soul of Prahlad is also established (pran-pratishthan) in a white flag. This flag is for huli-magan and at the time of burning Holi wood.
The young boys go for holi-mangan in the evening. Huli or holi-mangan starts from the place where Holika's soul is established. The children used to go each house of the village in groups and sing the songs (these songs are not particular but related to history of Ram or Krishna) and u dance in circle in the courtyard:
Holi de dyao , holi de dyao
Dashrath je ko chhyaya char naunoo.
  On the evening before of Holi, the people visit to place where Melu branch is planted as Holika and put wood around melu branch. Then Pundit performs rituals and people burn the wood and Melu branch as if they were burning Holika.

                    यु 'तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ' मुआवरा  तब बण जब कपास मिलण भौति कट्ठण छौ , कड़ु तेल पाण हौर बि कट्ठण छौ , आग मिलण मतलब युद्ध जितण अर द्यू -दिया मतबल मंगलग्रह से कुछ लाण।  तब यु मुवावरा बिलकुल सही थौ  . पर आज समय चक्र बदलेण से लगणु च बल यु मुवावरा बदलेण चयेंद।  अब उज्यळ इ उज्यळ च अर अंद्यर खुज्याण पर बि नि दिख्यांद।
        पैल कूड़ूं पर खिड़की नि लगाए जांद छौ किलैकि हम अंद्यर बर्दास्त कर सकद छा पर ठंड बर्दास्त नि हूंद छौ तो खिड़की बिहीन घर मा 'तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ' संहिता बिलकुल सै  फिट हूंद छौ। अब  'तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ' अनफिट प्रोवर्ब च।  म्यार कमरा की तीन तरफ़ाक़ दिवाल कांचक छन त क्वी क्षण इन नि मिल्दो बल कुछ पल शांति से अन्द्यरौ आनंद उठाये जावो। अब ' ज्योति मा तमसोर्गमय ' हेतु काळा काळा पर्दा लगायां छन।  मि तैं इंडियन आर्किटेक्टों पर गुस्सा आंद बल ये भायों ! यूरोप अर अमेरिका म त ठंड हूंदी त उख घाम अर उज्यळ चयेंद पर इंडिया मा खासकर मुंबई म त घाम से बचण इम्पोर्टेन्ट च त तीन तरफा कांचै दिवाल किलै भै ? अर जब काळा  पर्दा इ लगाणन त फिर कांचै दिवाल किलै भै ? दिन सूर्य अंद्यर  नि हूण दींद त रात स्ट्रीट लाइट अंद्यरौ दगड़ लड़णी  रौंद अर कुछ बची गे त स्मार्ट फोनो मेसेज सीण नि दींदन।
    मि तै गैणा दिखणम बेहन्त आनंद औंद छौ पर मुंबई जख स्ट्रीट लाइट्स अर वेहिकल लाइट्स से अंद्यर नि हूंद त मि हर चार सालम नागरजा पूजा करणो बान कम गैणा दिखणो बान अधिक गाँव जांदु।  मुंबई म अमृत मिलण सरल ह्वे गे त अन्द्यर मिलणै आस माने बिरळौ औंर दिखणो आस अर  द्वी नि दिखेंदन ।
      'तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ' मुआवरौ असली अर्थ छौ बल मुझे अज्ञान से ज्ञान की और ले जा।
      'तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ' मुआवरा अब असह्य मुवावरा ह्वे गे।  एक रिसर्चानुसार   औसतन एक दिन मा हम तैं कम से कम दस हजार सूचना याने ज्ञान मिल्दन , कम से  कम दस हजार सूचना ! अखबार उठाओ तो समाचार ज्ञान से अधिक विज्ञापन  ज्ञान मिल्दन।  टीवी द्याखो  तो मोदी जी क मन की बात ज्ञान , राजनीतक प्रवक्ताऊं बेहूदा कुज्ञान , राहुल जीक दुबई से भारत मा असह्य इमरजेंसी कु ज्ञान।  फिर बासी न्यूज पर  ब्रेकिंग न्यूज कु लेप लगायुं ज्ञान। घौर से भैर आवो तो होर्डिंग , वाल पेंटिंग , दुकानुं साइन बोर्ड, डिमोस्ट्रेटर आदि आदि ज्ञान बंटणम  प्रतियोगिता करणा रौंदन।   मीडिया मा ज्ञान की खौत फोळ !
    इंटरनेट आण से अब सब कट ऐंड पेस्ट यूनिवर्सिटी का पोस्ट  ग्रेजुएट ह्वे गेन अर हरेक हरेक तैं ज्ञान बंटणो बान घर बार , ब्वे -बेटी , ऑफिस का काम सब छोड़ छाड़िक कट पेस्ट से इंटरनेट माध्यम से ज्ञान बंटणम व्यस्त च।  पैल 'ज्ञान धारणम परम् धर्मः' सिद्धांत चलदो छौ त अब - 'कट पेस्टित ज्ञान वितरणम परम् धर्म:' सिद्धंत सर्वत्र व्यापी ह्वे गे।  कट पेस्ट ज्ञान वितरण अब इथगा विकसित ह्वे गे कि अब रोज मि तै म्यारि  लिख्यां लेख दूसरौ नाम से फेसबुक मा मिलणा इ रौंदन।  कट पेस्ट ज्ञान वितरण पिपासा अब एडिक्शन ह्वे गे। कट पेस्ट ज्ञान अब अघळ ह्वे गे।  अब त मि रोज प्रार्थना करदो ' हे ईश्वर ! मुझे कट पेस्ट ज्ञानियों से दूर रख '.
अब मस्तिष्क कु काम ज्ञान बटोळण नि रै गे अपितु अब तो मस्तिष्क कु इकु काम रै गे कि कै बि तरैं से ज्ञान की इंट्री रुके जावो।  अब मष्तिष्कन  'अज्ञानो  मा ज्ञानोर्गमय' कु बाटु पर हिटण बंद कर याल अपितु अब मष्तिस्क 'ज्ञानो मा अज्ञानोर्गमय' कु रस्ता पर चलण चांदो।
  तुम पर अथा उज्यळ अर अथा कट पेस्ट ज्ञान से क्या फरक पड़णु च ?
