Madhusudhan Thapliya is called the ‘Samrat’ of Garhwali language Gazals.
No doubt, earlier than Thapliya, many Garhwali language poets tried effectively on this form poetry in the language as Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna, Kanhaya Lal Dandariyal, Netra Singh Aswal, Keswan, Madan Duklan, Devendra Joshi, Chinmaya, Virendra Panwar, Dr Gauniyal, Girish Sundariyal etc. However, Madhusudhan is credited for publishing exclusively the collection of Garhwali Gazals , Harvi-Harvi in 2002 AD.

There have been controversies for Harvi-Harvi among Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal the Garhwali critic and supporters of Madhusudhan Thapliyal on many areas of Gazal. One reason of Nautiyal’s criticism was using “dudhal ka keel “and other was a *ual word of Garhwali by Madhusudhan . However, it is also a well known fact that Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal took revenge against Madhusudhan in criticizing Harvi Harvi because in past , in one meeting in Delhi Madhusudhan criticized Bhagwati Prasadd and Madhusudhan also criticized Nautiyal in another periodical Uttarakhand Varta
This author also jumped in the fray for another reason. After reading the review of Harvi Harvi by Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal, this author advised Nautiyal not to write in Garhwali language because he does not use Garhwali words and uses only Hindi words in the name of Garhwali prose. This author wrote against Nautiyal in two titles, Nautiyal ji -Band karo Gadhwali men likhan and Garhwali Gadya ko Aunsee ko Garhan Bhagwati Prasad Nautical.

जिन्दगी ह्वै ग्यायि डौंर -थाळी।
आग चुल्लौं नांघी कोठार पौंछी
पाणी धैरी की नजीकु छिल्ला बा ळी।
तीस माणी , भूख पाथी, सात जीवन
पुंगड़ी पटुळी सेरा सारी पांच नाळी।
बाघ का जजमान बणगिन घ्वीड़ -काखड़
मनख्या -मनिख चैरिगे सरा हर्याळी।

धगुला देखिक रौंस नि खै कागजूं मां
दस्तखत त असली छन पण हाथ जाळी।
बौग्दु पाणी हेरी की निरसे ना गैल्या
तेरी गंगा होली त त्वैमा ही आली
