         Danda Kantha Swar the poetry collection of various poets has two significances . First this volume is the first ever volume wherein the Kumaoni and Garhwali poems are edited in one volume first time. Secondly, the volume is dedicated to martyrs of Kargil battle and each contributing poet offers the poem related to war. This is first verse volume in both language that poems are related to war.
         When professor of Hindi language in Mumbai University , Dr Manjula Dhoundiyal read few poems of Danda Kantha Swar and the contents of the volume, she immediately told, “ This volume is as important as ‘Muse of War’ ( War Poetry Collection, 1917) or the war related huge poetry collection (1971) at Central Library Brigham”
        Dr Manjula Dhoundiyal is right in her remarks. This poetry volume reminds the readers the war and patriotism related poems of famous poets as Bertolt Brecht , John Davidson, Thomas Moore, Thomas Hardy, Yahuda Amichai , Allen Ginsberg, Willium Butler Yeats , Sir Walter Scott , Charlotte Smith, Elizabeth Barrett Browning , Robert Browning , Robert Burns ,William Topaz McGonagall ,Mary Darby Robinson , William Cowper , John Dryden , Henry Lawson ,Joyce Kilmer , Walt Whitman ,James Whitcomb Riley , Hugh Henry Brackenridge , John Trumbull , Ivan Donn Carswell for poetic description of the need of fighting for the country, the pain of family members of martyrs , the pride , the sacrifice of life , the usefulness of peace and son on.
        The volume is not only very important because it has poems related to Kargil war , Garhwal Rifle or the sacrifices of Uttarakhandis for their motherland in various wars but it has very significance that ‘Danda Kantha Swar’ is the first ever effort to publish the poetries of various poets of two main languages of Uttarakhand that is Kumaoni and Garhwali . Uttarakhandis will always appreciate Gajendra Batohi

There are other subjects poems too in Dnad Kantha Swar but most of the poems are war based poems. There are following thematic war poems in this volume:

6- Message of a soldier to his wife and sacrifice of women folks

There are many poems which are not related to war but are of various subjects related to rural Uttarakhand as loss from migration, discriminations against women, environment etc
On the whole , each poem is capable for creating different mood and emotions in the reader’s mind.
             This is appreciable task to offer the literature of both the main languages of Uttarakhand state and Dr Gajendra Batohi should be congratulated for his efforts in calling poems from Kumaoni and Garhwali poets , editing and publishing them successfully .

गैस सलेंडर कु जमानु  च आज

भीष्मक कुकरेती : आपक संक्षिप्त जीवन परिचय...
धनेश कोठारी : मेरु जल्म  26 दि‍संबर 1970 (11 गते 2027) का दि‍न द्वी धौळयों अलकनंदा अर भागीरथी का कि‍नारा देवप्रयाग मा ह्वे। आठवीं तकै कि शुरूआति शिक्षा बि देवप्रयाग अरैर वांका बाद ऋषिकेश मा स्नाईतक तक पढ़ी लेखि सक्यों । इबारि बि ऋषिकेश मा ई स्थै  घौर च।
भी. कु. : आपक साहित्यक ब्यौरा...
ध. को. : सन् 2009 मा एक गढ़वळी कविता संग्रै 'ज्यूं दाळ' प्रकाशित च। यां चै पैलि मैं तैं आवाज साहित्यिक संस्था  की पैलि हिंदी अर गढ़वळी काव्‍य संग्रै का संपादन कू मौका मिली। यांका अलावा कथगि पत्र-पत्रिकौं मा मेरि कविता छपेन। जीवन की सबसे पैलि गांधी जी पर लेखिं मेरि एक हिंदी क्षणिका 1984 मा बाल पत्रिका 'चंपक' मा छपे छै। तब बिटि लेखणौ कू छंदमंद शुरू ह्वे, जु कि अब तकै जारी च।

भी. कु. : आपन अब तक गढवळी मा क्य-क्य लेख अर कथगा कविता लेखी होली
ध. को. :  मेरु अधिकांश साहित्यिक लेखन गढ़वळी भाषा मा ई अब तक ह्वे अर अगनै बि लेखदू रौलू। गढ़वळी मा मिन अब तक ज्यामदातर कविता ई लेखिन। कहानी लेखणौ कू भी प्रयास करि, पण एक आद कहानी ई लेखि सक्यों । हां, कविता का बाद व्यंबग्य  मेरि सबसे मनपसंद विधा च। सामयिक विषयों पर अब तक लगभग तीन दर्जन व्यंोग्य  लेखिन। जू गढ़वळी का दगड़ हिंदी मा भी विभिन्न  पत्र-पत्ररिकौं मा प्रकाशित ह्वेन्।
पत्रकारिता मा होण का कारण हिंदी मा आलेख, गढ़वळी फिलमूं की समीक्षा अर गढ़वळी मा कुछ किताबूं कि प्रस्ताहवना भी मेरा लेखन मा शामिल छन। कविता का अलावा मिन कई गढ़वळी गीत बि लेखिन्। जू कई एलबमूं मा बाजार मा बि ऐन। जख तक कवितौ कि बात च, त अबि तलै लगभग ढै सौ कविता अर गीत लेखि चुक्योंक मि।

भी. कु. : आपक साहित्य पर समीक्षकों कि राय
ध. को. : मेरा पैला काव्यक संग्रै ज्यूंलदाळ कि ज्याददा समीक्षा त नि ह्वेन्। पण जौंन बि लेखि वूंन् मेरि कवितौं मा व्य.वस्थाै का खिलाप एक तरै कू विद्रोह देखि। वूंकि नजर मा मेरि भाषा पर पकड़ कि सबचै ज्या दा तारीप ह्वे। अर अगनै बढण कू आशीष का दगड़ हौसला बि मिली। जू कि मेरा वास्ता: सबसे ज्या्दा कीमती च।

भीष्म कुकरेती : आप कविता क्षेत्र मा किलै ऐन ?
ध. को. : साहित्यष का क्षेत्र मा मि अचणचक आयूं। किलै, त् अपडि़ पछाण कि खातिर। यानि अपडि़ पाड़ी होण कि पछाण, पाड़ीपन तैं अगनै बढौण कि चाना, लोकभाषा का थान मा अपडि़ तरपां बिटि अग्याछळ देण कू, दुनिया तैं बतौण कू कि हम अपणा पाड़ी होण पर गौरव मैसूस कर्दां। अर ये ई भाव विचार तैं सबूं दगतडि़ संजैत कन्नब कू। मेरु यू बि मन्नर च कि अगर विचार तैं मजबूती का दगड़ सतत अगनै बढ़ये जावू, त् एक न एक दिन समाज मा वेकू प्रभौ बि स्वातभाविक च। यांलै बि मि कविता, व्यंमग्य  अर अन्य  लेखन कर्दू।

भीष्म कुकरेती : आपकी कविता पर कौं-कौं कवियुं प्रभाव च ?
ध. को. : यू त् मिन कबि आंकी नि च। जख तक बोलूं त् मि सिखणौ कू हमेशा प्रयास कर्दू रौंदू, अर वेका मुताबिक ई अपणी रचनौ तैं गंठ्योंण कि कोसिस कर्दू। हां, मैं तैं गढ़वळी मा पुराणौ का दगड़़ कथगि नया लेख्वा रूं कि कविता पसंद छन।

भी. कु. : आपक लेखन मा भौतिक वातावरण याने लिखणौ टेबल, खुर्सी, पेन, इकुलास आदि को कथगा महत्व च ?
ध. को. : जब पैलि बार कविता लेखि छै, त कागज, पेन, पेंसिल ई माध्यलम छा। अब नयू जमानू च, त् वेका अनुरूप ई कंप्यूखटर, मोबाइल बि साधन बणिगेन। रै इकुलास कि बात, त् मैं फरैं कविता कू द्यबता कखि बि ऐ जांदू। भीड़ मा बि अर इकुलास मा बि।

भी. कु. : आप पेन से लिख्दान या पेन्सिल से या कम्पुटर मा? कन टाइप का कागज़ आप तैं सूट करदन मतबल कनु कागज आप तैं कविता लिखण मा माफिक आन्दन?
ध. को. : पैलि बतै कि शुरूआत मा पेन, पेंसिल माध्य म लेखण का माध्युम बणिन्। अब कंप्यूटटर, लैपटॉप, मोबाइल बि सारू छन। कंप्यूलटर का जमाना मा कागज कन होवू, यां पर कबि खास नि स्वोरची। ज्वीप हात लगजौ, वी सारु ह्वे जांद।

भी. कु. : जब आप अपण डेस्क या टेबल से दूर रौंदा अर क्वी विषय दिमाग मा ऐ जाओ त क्या आप क्वी नॉट बुक दगड मा रखदां ?
ध. को. : पैलि किस्साआ पर डैरी रखदू छौ, अब मोबाइल हात पर रौंदू। विचार कखि बि कबि बि ऐ जाउ त् लेखि देंदौं।

भी. कु. : माना कि कैबरी आप का दिमाग मा क्वी खास विचार ऐ जावन अर वे बग्त  आप वूं  विचारूं तैं लेखी नि सकद्वां, त आप पर क्या बितदी? अर फिर क्या करदा?

ध. को. : हां, कतयगि दां ह्वे यन। बाद मा कबि वू स्वोाच्यूआ याद ऐ त् कबि न। कई कविता यन्नि जल्मू लेण से पैलि ई म्वारेन्। अच्छी‍ पंक्ति या विषय हमेशा नि मिल्द‍न्। पण, अब जब हात पर मोबाइल रंदू, कोसिस कर्दों कि मन मा अयां विचार तैं लेखिद्यों।

भी. कु. : आप अपण कविता तैं कथगा दें रिवाइज कर्दां ?
ध. को. : रिवाइज कन्नक कि जर्रवत हमेशा नि प्व ड़दी। फेर बि कोसिस रंदी कि एक अच्छी, कविता पाठकूं अर सुण्द रौं तक पौंछू। स्यूं रिवाइज कि गुंजाइश तैं नकार्दू बि नि छौं।

भी. कु. : क्या कबि आपन कविता वर्कशॉप क बारा मा बि स्वाच? नई छिंवाळ तैं गढवाळी कविता गढ़णो को प्रशिक्षण बारा मा क्या हूण चएंद। आपन कविता गढ़णो बान क्वी औपचारिक (formal) प्रशिक्षण ल़े च ?
ध. को. : मेरा ख्या लम् कविता प्रशिक्षण से नि जल्मीी सकदी। मिन अपणा आसपास जू देखि, मैसूस करि, अर मन ह्वे कि यू विषय कविता कू प्लाजट बण सकदू, त् वेका शबद, शैली, बिंब, भाव बि अफ्वी जल्मिन्। रै नयि पीढ़ी तैं प्रशिक्षण कि, त् संवेदनशील मन का बिगर कविता गढण संभव नि। अलग-अलग विषय कि पढ़ै, वेका प्रति अपणु विवेक अर प्रतिक्रिया अर प्रतिक्रिया कि समाज पर प्रभाव कि संभावित कल्प ना यदि दगड़ हो, त् कविता बक्की  का थाल मा का ज्यूं दाळूं सी अफ्वी बाक जांद। कविता गढण कू मिन कबि कखि प्रशिक्षण नि ले। मैं तैं त् समाजन् ई कविता गढण कू बानू बि बतै अर सगोर बि सीखै।

भी.कु. : हिंदी साहित्यिक आलोचना से आप कि कवितौं या कवित्व पर क्या प्रभौ च. क्वी उदहारण?
ध. को. : अब्बि इतना बड़ू कवि नि होयों मि, कि हिंदी साहित्यपक आलोचना मेरा रचनाधर्मिता पर होन्। हां, हिंदी कि अलग-अलग विधौं मा कवितौं तैं पढ़दू अर वांका बाद आत्मध अवलोकन करिक अपणा लेखन मा कुछ अच्छुि गढण कू प्रयास जरूर कर्दों।

भी.कु.  : आप का कवित्व जीवन मा रचनात्मक सूखो बि आई होलो, त वै रचनात्मक सूखो तैं ख़तम करणों आपन क्या कार ?
ध. को. : रचनात्मनक सूखा कि जख तक बात च, त् कविता या कै अन्यन विधा लेखन का दौरान त् यन नि ह्वे। पण, जिंदगी का उतार चढ़ौ मा जरूर कतगि दां लंबा टैम तक मिन क्वीन कविता ई नि लेखि। आजकल बि जीवन कि कठिनै समणि छन अर कविता लगभग दूर च। हलांकि, तब भी कतआगि दां कविता अफ्वी बाक जांदि। बक्कैद यन त् चलदू ई रांद।

भी. कु.  : कविता घड़याण मा, गंठयाण मा, रिवाइज करण मा इकुलास की जरुरत आप तैं कथगा हूंद ?
ध. को. : कविता कि अन्वािर गंठ्योण कू इकुलास बि अफवू मा जरूरी च। बल्कि यांकू बिजां सारू मिल्द ।

भी. कु. : इकुलास मा जाण या इकुलासी मनोगति से आपक पारिवारिक जीवन या सामाजिक जीवन पर क्या फ़रक पोडद? इकुलासी मनोगति से आपक काम (कार्यालय) पर कथगा फ़रक पोडद?
ध. को. : मैं तै इकुलास खास पसंद नि च, अर मन इकुलास तब्बि चांदू, जब काम धाणि कू बग्ता हो।

भी. कु. : कबि इन हूंद आप एक कविता क बान क्वी पंगती लिख्दां, पण फिर वो पंगती वीं कविता मा प्रयोग नि कर्दा, त फिर वूं पंगत्यूं क्या कर्द्वां ?
ध. को्. : कतगि दां होंद इन। क्वीक पंगती बाद मा काम ऐ जांदिन्, त् कतगि बिस्मृित ह्वे जांदिन्।

भी. कु. : जब कबि आप सीण इ वाळ हवेल्या या सियाँ रैल्या अर चट चटाक से क्वी कविता लैन/विषय आदि मन मा ऐ जाओ त क्या कर्दावां?
ध. को. : कोसिस रंदी कि वू विषय कंप्यूीटर न सै पण कागज पर त उतर ई जावू।

भी. कु. : आप को शब्दकोश अपण दगड रख्दां ?
ध. को. : मिन अब्बि तलै क्वीद शबदकोश नि पढ़ी। यांकि जर्रवत बि नि होंदि। किलै कि अपणा घौर का गेट भितर औण का बाद मि या मेरा मां-बाप, भै बैणा क्वी  हिंदी मा बात नि कर्दन। स्यू  शब्दा भंडार मैं तैं अपणा घर पर ई खासकर अपणि मां से ई मिल जांद। बकै पढणै कि मेरि आदत बि शब्दूू तैं मन मा समाल्दीत रंदी।

भी. कु. : हिंदी आलोचना तैं क्या बराबर बांचणा रौंदवां?
ध. को. : हां, पत्र पत्रिकौं मा हिंदी साहित्य  से जुड़ीं समीक्षा, आलोचना, समालोचना तैं पढदौं अर गुणदौं। ताकि देश दुनिया मा कू साहित्यिक ढब बि पता चल्दूक रावू।

भी. कु. : गढवाळी समालोचना से बि आपको कवित्व पर फ़रक पोडद?
ध. को. : समालोचनौं से मैं हमेशा सिखण कि कोसिस कर्दों। अपणि कवितौं तैं समयकाल का अनुरूप धार दे सकौं।

भी. कु. : भारत मा गैर हिंदी भाषाओं वर्तमान काव्य की जानकारी बान आप क्या करदवां ? या, आप यां से बेफिक्र रौंदवां
ध. को. : बिलकुल ना। मिन पैलि बतै कि मैं पढणै हमेशा कोसिस कर्दों।

भी. कु. : अंग्रेजी मा वर्तमान काव्य की जानकारी बान क्या करदवां आप?
ध. को. : अंग्रेजी खास नि आंदि। वेका साहित्यब का अनुवाद पाण कि कोसिस कर्दों।

भी. कु. : भैर देसूं गैर अंगरेजी क वर्तमान साहित्य की जानकारी क बान क्या करदवां ?
ध. को. : यांका बारा कब्बि क्वी  करतब नि कैरि।

भी. कु. : आपन बचपन मा को, को वाद्य यंत्र बजैन?
ध. को. : डौंर-थाळी।

तब्बि जै यखुलि जै।
जब न त्वै क्वी धै लगांद
सुण निर्भागी मन्खि
जब नि आंदू क्वी बार -ध्वार
त्वै बिरणो जणकी
कमर कसिक उठ खड़ु ह्वै
मुट्ठि बाँध यखुलि  जै 
धै लगै नि आंदू क्वी त
तब्बि जै यखुलि जै।

देखदु नी क्वी चूंदि आँखि
न ही दुःख बटांद
दुखों मा झुलसद पराण
न क्वी दगड़ी आंद
हार छोड़ि दुनिया समणी
आँखि पोंछि यखुली रे। 
धै लगै नि आंदू क्वी त
तब्बि जै यखुलि जै।

गारा ढुंगों कू बाटु देखिक
जब क्वी दगड़ो छोड़ि दे
अपणी गरीबि देखिक
जब क्वी नातो तोड़ि दे
छाळा पोड्यां खुट्यूं तैं
अगनै बढ़े यखुली जै
धै लगै नि आंदू क्वी त
तब्बि जै यखुलि जै।

आग लगीं कूड़ि देखिक
जब त्वै क्वी धकेलि दे
अपणो पापी करमों मा
त्वै अभागि तै ठेलि दे
रात जाणि ह्वेलि सुबेर
फाळ मारि , यखुलि रे।
