Concord, USA, 27 Mar: Uttarakhandis from different parts came here to celebrate Holi. Over 50 highlanders attended the festival of colours. The members of UANA, New England Chapter, made it possible.

Uttarakhandis started to assemble at Concord from early morning. Deepak and Meenakshi Pant welcomed the guests by applying 'tilak' on their foreheads. The visitors came from far away places like NY and California to make the celebration a memorable one.

Very soon, all were painted in red, pink and yellow colours. This year, import of colours to USA faced some issues but this could not stop the determined and innovative Uttarakhandis, who made yellow colour with "Haldi" and "Besan".

The celebration began with the traditional Ganesh Puja (Sidhi ko data bighan vinasan hori khele girijapati nandan). Pahari Holi (Mathura main khele kaun ghadi, Gori pyaro lage tero jhhankaro, Jal kaise bharu yamuna gahari, etc.) were recited one by one in Pahari style (some with Harmonium, Tabla and Dholak at the centre and the rest surrounding them). Sanju Pahadi, Pramod Pandey and Narendra Harnwal initiated the singing of Holi and the rest of the group followed them.

There were performances from new generation highlanders (Natasha, Radhika, Pragati, Aditya, Kirti, Sachi, Yash and Samridhi). Another round of Pahari songs started including Khadi Holiyaan, "Bedu Paako", "Babli tero mobile", "Thando re Thando" and "Tak Taka Tak", etc. Uttarakhandi cuisine like "Bhat jhol", "Arsaa," etc., were served.

अर्जुनज्यू उठी बाण जो मारो, माछी की आंख को भेदो हरी
अर्जुनज्यू उठें द्रौपदी लै उठी, जयमालै पहनायो हरी

पैली शब्द ओमकारा भयो है, पीछे विष्णु अवतार हरी
बिष्णु की नाभी से कमलक फूला, फूला में ब्रह्मा जी बैठे हरी
ब्रह्मा जी ने सृष्टि रची है , तीनों लोक बनायो हरी
पाताल लोक में नाग बसो है , मृत्युलोक में मनुया हरी
स्वर्गालोक में देव बसे हैं , आप बसे बैकुंठ हरी

ye holi kakesh ji ko mene bheji thi/ hum log Sant nagar Burari delhi me esi tarah ki holi gaate hai/
