      Gail-Bald (the lazy bull) is the story about Galadar (live stock trader) selling live stock by deceptive methods. In villages, there are live stock traders those sell the domestic animals by tricks and buyers get unwanted or undesired animal that might be a cow, buffalo or bull pair.
      The story is an unreliable seller sells his lazy bull pair to Puranu. Now, the story tells the bad fate of Puranu.  The story is interesting in telling the pain for Puranu and the question is for readers about the way Puaranu sells those bulls.
   The story is from Garhwali society and happens on daily basis. Mahesha Nand uses proverbs and phrases as 'Bhappi- Suppi', 'Thamthayt', Dam Dharan' for making the story interesting and speeding the story.
The story teller uses descriptive and dialogues for forwarding the story. Phrases as ' Baldun Thamthyat ar Ghandyun Chhamchhyat' offer pleasure for readers.
The dialogues and description fit to story characters. Even Mahesha describes the practical strategies used by Galadars as concealing and falsifying .
Those experienced the Galadari of unreliable traders would state that the story is real and they are witnesses for many such true events.  The story is interesting to read.

पूसौ मैना लग्यूं छौ। सच्चि ट्यस्ट दींणू पौड़ि जयूं छौ। वे कि अगल्यार आंद-आंद रुमुक पोड़ि ग्या। ब्यखुनि दां सर्ग घिर्या अर जपजप-जपजप ह्यूं पुंण बैठि ग्या। सच्ची फूफू रांदि छै पौड़ि। वु खुड़बुट अपड़ि फूप्वा ड्यार ऐ ग्या।
अपड़ा भतिजा द्येखी फूफू खिलपत ह्वे ग्या। वीन वे कि आँखी, चौंठी अर गल्वड़्यूं कि चुट्ट-चुट्ट भुक्कि प्या अर वे थैं निवता खंत्ड़ा पेट बैठाळि द्या। तबSरि सच्यू ममा निम्जा(थैला) तंणसट्ट कै लदर-बदर(खाने की बहुत सरी वस्तुएं) ल्है कि ऐ ग्या। वेन पुलबयूंम् भंण्जा द्येखी बोलि--"भंण्जा! त्यारु खांदा मंगौ नाळु कट्यूं च रै जंणि। खांदा-पींदा जोगो छै। अब्बी त्वे चरचर-बरबरा लूंण मा रळीं कछब्वळि घुळांदु। एक कत्तर बैं त हैंकु दैं खग्वटा घाल अर लबळांणी(चबाना) रौ।" सच्या ममै भड़यां बखरै आंसि(सिकार) ल्हीं छै।
वु कछब्वळि रंळ बैठि अर सच्चिन् बोलि-- "ममा जी! मि भैरथब जांणू छौं, सरबट आंदु।"
सच्चि कुलंणा पैथर ग्या। बिंड्डि अबेर ह्वे ग्या पंण सच्चि भितर नि आ। वे थैं सौब जग्वळां। कछब्वळि राळी पत्तौं मा धरीं। समसूत रात ह्वे ग्या पंण सच्यू जन ब्वलेंद छिपनकाळ ह्वे हो। वेकि फूफू अर ममौ खुंणै द्वासि-व्यासि(मन की उद्विग्नता) ह्वे ग्या। गासि जूदा लगि ग्या वूं थैं।
सर्रा गौं मा खकला-बखला मचि ग्या। ह्यूं पुंणू अर गंवड्यौं कि तुंद्यंणि-बिंद्यंणि (भागम-भाग हल्ला-गुल्ला) मचि ग्या। सगळि रात सि तै थैं ख्वज्यांणा रैनि पंण बुरा सौं जु तै कु भ्यूंत(रहस्य) मीलि हो। बार-बन्या सुकम्वळ् खयेंणा। सौब ब्वन्ना कि बागन दंमळै यालि जंणि वे थैं।
हैंकS दिन बिनसिरिम् चार-पांच बैख सच्चि ख्वज्यांणू वे कS गौं ग्येनि। सच्चि दिखौ पांडा फस्सोरी सिंयू। वे कु ममा भरि फिंगरे ग्या। बेन सच्ची ब्वे कु बरगबान कै कि बोलि--- "लोळू खड्यूं छ्वारा द्याखदि, हैं! यु क्यांकु त हमSरा ड्यार आ अर सुरक किलै यु लुकां आ। किन्मजात ये खुंण नरनरि(सख्त) कछब्वळि फिरंयी छै। ये कु त फीरि-फीरी, येन हमSरि बि निखंणि करा। सगळि रात हिंयेरन् (बर्फीली हवा) हम अल्डकर्ये ग्यां।"
"द भुला!" सच्ची ब्वेन खप्प खौळ्येकि बोलि---- "यांलै यु लुकी आ। मी बि भरि खिज्यौं यु खुंण। यु समसूत रात्म ह्यूंमुंड्यंम् (गिरती हुई बर्फ की बूंदें) आ पौड़ि बटि घौर। पंण भुला बुरु नि मांणि। यु मोरि जालु पंण वुक्ख सप्पा नि रांदु , जक्ख क्वी सिकार खांणू हो। भरि क्वांसा सरेलौ च यु। ये थैं जीबन फर भरि कळकळि लगद।"
सच्यू ममा सात ख्वला एक्कि खोल पोड़ि ग्या।

१- जु तुम सुबेर सुबेर चार बजि वाशरूम   पिशाब जावो अर वापस आदिं  कम्प्यूटर मा ईमेल चेक करदवां तो आप कम्प्यूटरौ  धस्की  छंवां हाँ।
२- यदि जब तुम जनि कम्प्यूटर बन्द कारो अर तुम तै इन लग बल जन ट्यूमर गातन क्वी अंग झड़ गे तो आप अवश्य ही धस्की  छंवां हाँ।
३- जब तुम द्वी चार साल कॉलेज मा इ रौण चांदा बल इंटरनेट मोफत मा च अर कम्प्यूटर मोफत मा छन तो समज ल्यावो तुम कम्प्यूटरौ  गुलाम छंवां।
४- यदि तुम हथन कागजम कुछ लिखणा हुवाँ अर बार बार ट्यूमर दिमाग मा चेकर शब्द आवो  तो मानि ल्यावो तुम कम्प्यूटरौ आदी  ह्वे गेवां।
५-यदि तुम अपण ब्वे-बुबा कुण चिट्ठी नि भिजदां किलकि उमा ईमेल नी च तो मानि ल्यावो तुम कम्प्यूटरौ आदी  ह्वे गेवां।
६- यदि कम्प्यूटर खुलणो परान्त तुम तै नै मेल नि मिलदी तो तुम बौळे जांदा तो  समज ल्यावो तुम कम्प्यूटरौ वशीभूत  ह्वे गेवां।
७- कम्प्यूटर या इंटरनेट अचाणचक  बन्द हूण से तुम तै इन लगो कि ट्यूमर ल्वे निचुड़ी गे तो बथाणै जरूरत नी कि तुम पर कम्प्यूटर की लत लग गे
८-तुम भोज का स्वाद तै कम्प्यूटरी भाषा मा बाथण लग जावो तो समजो कि  ..
९- जब तुम तै ट्यूमर ब्वे सौत्या बच्चा , घरवळी तुम तै सौत,  अर बच्चा बिरण बूबा समजण     लग जावन तो समजि ल्यावो कि तुम कम्प्यूटरौ ढब्यां छंवां
१० - जब घौर वळ तै पता हूंद कि तुम कखम ह्वेल्या तो समझो बल तुम कम्प्यूटरौ कुटैबि ह्वे गेवां।

        There were differences among tax of different villages.  In batten settlement the officials determined tax after analyzing soil fertility, losses by wild animals and birds, distance from bazaar, numbers of owners, owner's economical conditions and other factors.  By studying 'Fard Fant' , it is clear that the annual tax was eight Ana on irrigated land of one beesi (Dabral, page 188, from Vishnu Singh Gorla Rawat Collections) . 
  The series in fard Fant was name of land owner, land measurement in 'beesee', and tax.
  In Trail time, the Malgujar used to prepare the Fard fant and did not submit in office. In Batten settlement, the records were kept in government offices. The officials and effected person could see the records.
The example of the Fard Fant of a village or villages for a Malgujar was as under (Vishnu Singh collection) –

  In Batten settlement, there was demarcation and records for different types of ownerships –Hissedar (owner), Sirtan and Khaikar and tax rates were recorded. Khaykar and Sirtan used to offer 'Dastur' to Hissedar (owner) and Hissedar used to offer 'dastur' to Padhan and Thokdar /malgujar. There was now system of recording 'dastur'
A' fard fant' shows 'dastur' record as follows

घीय संक्रान्ति का वल्ग असामी  १ पिछे घी या तिल सेर देते हैं (I) के १ औणी जाणी अल्मोड़ा वगैरह कर्ते हैं फक्त (I)
From the last line, it is clear that Padhan or Hissedar used to visit Almora h e used to take person from 'Khaykar' or Sirtan' with him on series basis. The above system was alive from old age. Batten made it official.  Hak dastur became an official tax and court used to take such issues in court too. If a Sirtan or Khaykar used to pay 'Dastur' in time, Malgujar could not disown his land.  By the news system, the rights of land owners became secured and there was strong contact between the government and the land owners. In a way, Thokdar or Padhan became only paper tigers.

   Jagdish Bijlwan created a couple of Garhwali poems published here and there. His following poem made Jagdish Bijlwan famous in Garhwali poetry world.
Jagdish Bijlwan was born in Gadera village of Pauri Garhwal.

दुदगळया म ब्वे को दूद घट्टेलि की पे
निदळक्यां म बि बर्र व्यूंजीई पिंदगौं
मयेड़ी का सुरक कै सरकणम बि ऐड़ाट कै।

ब्वे  बौड़िक  ऐ अजि पिवैगे
पण मेरि या चार अंगुळै
लद्वड़ि नि भ्वर्ये। 

अन्न खाण लैग्यूं त भयूं दगड़ी रुसैक
भिंडि  मंगण  बैठु , खयां खाणम भूक लैगे
पण  या चार अंगुळै लद्वड़ि नि भ्वर्ये। 

पढ़ण , ल्यखण , कमाण , खर्चण दौ भूखीई -भूख
कुठार भवर्यान पण अंगु भूख
छैन्दो छक्क , ठाडो तिरछो हूण बैगे
पण  या चार अंगुळै लद्वड़ि नि भ्वर्ये।

            We all agree that a woman can change the life of poor to rich family.  Garhwali story teller took clue from the above saying and narrated affine inspirational story.
       Bwalkhya was a 'faltu' or idle youth passes time in styles and flirting girls. Bwalkhya's  father married him with a girl 'Tura' that was having flat nose and was not beautiful.
  However, Tura changed the poor family into rich family by her works and inspiration.
The story is simple but Mahesha Nand made the story charming by his structure, construction, dialogues and description and storytelling style.
     Reader would love the story.
