नौनी तै s जरा पछौंणा , नि  धरा s वीं तैं अछौंणा ।
समजदा नि छंई , वीं तई s माणदा रात।। 

वींका भित्रा जरा झांका , वीं तैं सै ढंग से आंका ।
वीं तैं पढ़ा जनि पाटी , वच्छ सीदि  सादि लाटी।।

वीं नि मान कबि बोज , सेवा करदी वत रोज।
सैंसर मा रंदि दूर , फिर बि मैत रंदि सूर ।।

माँ का पेट वीं नि मारा , काम चल्दा वीं से सारा।
व छ द्वी कुलुं की जोत , कबि नि कारा वीं की मौत।।

स्कूल वीं तैं पढ़ावा , काम धंधा मा  अड़ावा।
नौन्यौं सि चल्दु वंश , वा छ प्रकृति की अंश ।।

नौनि जु कखि हर्चि जालि , दुन्या तब कनै रालि।
खतम होलु जु यु बीज , फिर न्हीं मिल्यां क्वी चीज ।।
 
जौंदि जब वा भित्र -भैर , घर लगदु जन सैर।
दिखेंदी फूल सि कली , औंदि जौंदि लगदि भली ।।

           जन ये साल ह्वे तनि कबि हमर गढ़वालम तब बि बार बार हूंद छौ जब मि अदखिचर छौ , समजण लैक छौ या युवा छौ।  ये साल महाराष्ट्र मा उनी ह्वे जन म्यार गांवमा चीनै लड़ै पैंथरौ साल ह्वे छौ।  तब बि इनि ह्वे छौ , उख बि इनि ह्वे छौ , इख बि इनि हूणु च।
तैबरि बि प्रतीक्षा , तब बि जग्वाळ , तब बि इन्तजार की तंगतंगी।  तब बि आली ? कब आली ? ह्यां आली पर कब आली?  जन प्रश्न हवा मा उड़ना रौंद छ।
           जन पैलाक मानसून महराष्ट्र , मुंबई    क्या पुरो हिन्दुस्तान मा इ खराब गे तो ये साल बरखा की प्रतीक्षा , इन्तजार , जग्वाळ बड़ी आतुर्दी से हूणि च।  टीवी वळ जब तब किर्राणा छन - केरल तक मानसून पंहुचा,  दिल्ली  अबि बि गरम  और   गडकरी  गगन  पर गड़गड़ाये।
       मि जब युवा छौ तो एक साल ठीक से सौण म कम बरखा ह्वै , भादों दगा दे गे तो पूष  माघ मा  बि बरखा नि बरखी।  इख तक कि जेठ तक लोग निबरखा का रैन।  झंग्वर  बूणो हिम्म्त कैमा नि ह्वे।

15 गति जेठ का बाद मिनख , मनिख्याणि  छोडो कुत्तौ नजर बि आसमान जीना हूंद गे।
वा वीं तै पुछदी छे - ये वा ! मीन तो अपण जिंदगी मा कबि नि देख कि जेठ अदा ह्वे जावो अर बादळ नि दिख्यावन।
स्या जबाब द्यावो - हाँ ये वा ! मेरी बूड़ सास  बि इनि बुलणा  छन  कि जेठ अदा ह्वे अर बादळ नी दिखेणा छन।
क्वी जनानी डांड से घास -लखुड़ लेक गांवक हद मा पौंछ ना कि लोकुं सवाल हूंद छा - डांड मा बिटेन तीन बादळ बि देखिन ?
घस्यरि जबाब हूंद छौ - न भयां ! कखि बि यूँ बादळो  पर काण्ड नि लगिन।
फिर लोग वैइ डांड से अइं लख्वड्वळि  से पुछ्द छा  - तैंको तो क्वी भरवस नी च पर तू त बता कि तितै  बादळ बि  दिखेन ?
लख्वड्वळि हुस्यार छे , जाणदि छे कि ना बुलण से यूंन 'नाम ' धौर दीण त वा बुल्दी छे - मीन तो आँख जमैक द्याख।  दूर चौखम्बा (बद्रीनाथ ) जिना द्वी चार कत्तर बादळू  दिखे छन।  मेरी बूडननि बुल्दी छे बल 20 गति जेठाकुण चौखम्बा जिना द्वी चार कत्तर बादळू दिखे जावन तो समज ल्यावो मुंगर्यात (मानसून ) चौड़ आंद।
इन आतुर्दी समय लोगुं तै आसा चयेंद छौ तो झूठी आसा से बि लोग उत्साही ह्वे जांद छा। अर सरा गाँव मा सोसल मीडिया जन वायरल -रयूमर फ़ैल जांद छौ कि जल्दी ही मुंगर्यात पोड़ण वाळ च।
20  गति जेठ तक तो लोगुन भगवान पर भरवस कार , 25  गति जेठ तक तो लोगुन इंद्र देवता पर भरवस कार , किन्तु जब 20  गति जेठ का आस पास बादळ नि दिखेन तो लोगुं तै वर्षा भविष्यवक्ता , रेन फोरकास्टर याने बरखा बारा मा बाक बुलण वळु की  याद आए।
अब सब लोग बार बार बरखा या जलवायु भविष्यवक्ताओं ड्यार आण लग गेन।
हमर गांव  मा घन्ना ददा अर बैजू चिचा जलवायु विशेषज्ञ छया ।  तब आकाशवाणी  पर तो लोग कतै भरवस नि करदा छा ।  सरकारी भोंपू पर तो आज बि भारतवासी भर्वस नि करदन। 
लोग घन्ना दादा अर बैजू चिचा तै चौंतरा मा बैठाळिक प्रश्न करदा छा। 
द्वी चखुलुं माट मा नयाण , कव्वों घोल बणाण ,  कुंळै डाळू   हलण, बांजक पत्तों आवाज ,  आदि का अध्यन से पता लगांद छा  कि कब बरखा ह्वेलि अर कथगा हवेली।  चूँकि हम सब  स्कूलम पढ़न लग गे  छा  अर उख किताबों से हमन यी सीख कि गाँव का यी लोग अंधविश्वासी छन तो हमन पारम्परिक ज्ञान तै खत्म कर  दे।
आम समय पर दुयूंकि बाक (भविष्यवाणी ) सही हूंदी छे किन्तु वै साल दुयुंकी भविष्यवाणी झूठी सिद्ध ह्वे , बरखा तब बि नि ऐ जबाक ऊंन बोली छौ।
अंत मा जब जून अंत तक लोगुं तै बादळ नि दिखेन   क्या क्षेत्र का लोग बहुगुणा पंडितों  का पास आण लग गेन।  बथाओ जु ज्योतिषी पंडित  बैज चिचा अर घन्ना दिदाक बुलण पर ही मुंगरी भिजांद छा  अब लोग ऊँ ही बहुगुणा पंडितों पास आस लेकि आण लग गेन।
सर्वसम्मति से स्वीकृत ह्वे कि शीघ्र वर्षा का वास्ता सँजैत यज्ञ उराए जाल और घड्यळ  धरे जाल।
आश्चर्य तब ह्वे जैदिन निश्चित ह्वे कि यज्ञ करण आवश्यक च अर वै दिन का दुसर  राति ही मुंगर्यात (बरखा ) पोड़ गे।
जब तक बरखा नि ह्वे तब तक हरेक का जवांन  पर यी प्रश्न हूंद छौ - आली कि ना ? ह्यां आली कि ना ? ह्यां आली तो आली पर समौ  पर आली कि ना ?
मीन बहुत सालों बाद बैजू चिचा तै पूछ - चिचा वै साल आप अर घन्ना दिदाक बाक झूठी किलै निकळ ?
चिचा को जबाब छौ - ख़ास  डाळु पत्तों हिलण , पत्तों की आवाज , कवों घोसला तयार नि हूण अर चखुलों बार बार पाणी मा नयाण से हम समज तो गे छैया कि बरखान देर से आण पर   ..
मीन पूछ - तो तुम दुयुंन  झूट किलै ब्वाल ?
चिचाक जबाब छौ - कबि कबि गां गौळ (समाज ) मा आस कायम रखणो वास्ता झूठ बुलण ही ठीक हूंद।

                British Taking Doon Valley under British Rule

       On 21st October 1814, British captured Dehra centre without any casualty. In October only, barring Khalanga (Nalapani), British captured whole Doon Valley.  Hearsay informed about the importance of Doon Letter of Hearsay to Adam, 24 August 1814). Governor General also received information from other sources about fertility and forest resources of Doon and defense strategy of Doon.
    There were easy ports in Doon for crossing Ganga and Yamuna. Adam instructed to William Frazer through letters of 22nd and 23rd for establishing administration in Doon and Kiyardoon valleys immediately.
  However, due to non capturing Nalapani, the administration was established in late November in Doon and Kiyardoon valleys. Till end of November, Frazer could not get right personnel for collecting tax and police administration. Lately at the last week of November, Frazer appointed Garhwalis for police job and tax collection. There were three types of Garhwalis seeking jobs with British government-
1-Those left jobs with Gurkha administration.
2-Those wanted who were eager to get back their properties taken by Gurkha
3-New entrants eager for getting service with British 
  Frazer was able for establishing temporary administration in Doon and Kiyardoon valleys.

                 Shivram Luring Doon People
             There was no unrest in Doon valleys after Frazer took charge. However, those villagers, village chiefs, elites ran away from their respective villages did not return. It was necessary that villagers returned their houses and take agricultural acts and other jobs in hand.  Sudarshan Shah appointed Shivram as Mukhtyar (representative) for luring people of Doon those ran away from their villages. Frazer sent a authority letter to Shivram –
  "You being a well wisher of the company is being appointed as representative of King Sudarshan Shah. You will have to pay attention on your work and to act according to benefits for the British Government. You are being appointed for luring farmers for coming back to their villages. You are handed the job for getting back the village chieftains and elites for returning and staying in their respective regions.  You have to detach all of them from Gorkha people. Whatever way you thing right do those tactics but it should be in the benefits for British. After completion the job, British will offer you the Jagir. By inspiration from Sudarshan Shah and luring by Frazer, Shivram completed his job by getting back the farmers and elites (Chieftains etc) not only in Doon valleys but in Tones Valley too.  He was successful in provoking pole against Gurkha.    Frazer was happy by actions of Shiv Ram.

कनी नंदा -मंदा शुभ अलकनंदा बगणई,
भरीं विष्णू धौळी बिरहि लख बौळि बगणई।
सदा से अन्यायी पिंडर पर आयी तरुणई ,
नहाई -  नाहाई  भगिरथि हि माई भजणई।
कखी हीऊं घाटी , कति बरण माटी कखि छना ,
गधेरा भौतेरा पुंगड़ी अर सेरा कखि छना।
धरांसू लंगासू ,  गउचर ,  फरासू कखि छना ,
हिमासू चौरासू खबड़ खगरासू कखि छना।

             Sada Nand Jakhmola was born in Chanda, Sheela Patti, Pauri Garhwal in 1901 and expired in 1977 in Kotdwara.
      His contribution is immense in Garhwali poetry field.
He published 'Raibar' along story poetry and another poetry collection 'Garhguntyali' in 1932.
His unpublished collections are-

Bothe unpublished poetries are long poetries.
        'Raibar' the long poetry is inspired by Sanskrit classic 'Meghdoot ' by  Kalidas. Sadanand Jakhmola described the Garhwal including Sheela – Dadamandi with heart.  Here in 'Raibar' Yakshani of Meghdoot is Morchhyani ( Morcha female) of Mana village. The story telling style of Jakhmola is marvelous. Sadanand Jakhmola was capable of showing 'Virah' the pain of separation of lover by illustration and using figures of speeches with tact.
    The poems of 'Guntyali' show the characteristics of Garhwal and Garhwalis. He is marvelous in creating various geographical and spiritual images of Garhwal in 'Garhguntyali'
   His uses of Metaphors, figures of speeches still inspire new poets. He uses words from Garhwal but the words and phrases of poems are sophisticated and influenced by Sanskrit.
However Sadanand was marvelous in  creating Love rapture and geographical  images

              Nepal Rule over Kumaun, Garhwal and Himachal (1790-1815) -294
            History of Uttarakhand (Garhwal, Kumaon and Haridwar) -824

         After Malaun treaty on 15Tha May 1815, Governor General decided for capturing strategic places of Hill states.
  When at the end of May, Gurkha vacated Himachal Garhis and started marching for Nepal, Ochterlony sent soldiers under Major Baldock for capturing Garhwal. Sudarshan Shah and Frazer were also marching with Baldock for Shrinagar.
        On 28th May 1815, Company Secretary John Adam informed to Frazer, "the Governor Cabinet was proposing for taking charge of land from Kumaon   Bhagirathi or Alaknanda. By doing so it would be clear demarcation of boundaries (between Tehri and British Kumaon-Garhwal) up to place o f confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda (Dev Prayag).  From Devprayag onwards to south would be under Doon valley. Barring Doon valley and west of Alaknanda the balance portion would be left for Sudarshan Shah."
    "Whatever River (Alaknanda or Bhagirathi) becomes demarcation point, it is necessary that most of boat ports, ports and bridges come under British. The important strategic places beyond the river should be taken under British. Shrinagar would be under British only."
    "Governor General got information (though can't be reliable) that the people of Shrinagar are against handing over the rule to Sudarshan Shah. If they are not opposing they are not interested in Sudarshan Shah. If that is true, it is necessary for having police force in east of Alaknanda. "
          "As far as Doon valley is concerned its importance is not for its fertility and forest wealth but it is important for defense point o f view. By keeping Doon valley under us we shall have rule over Dehradun, Kiyardoon, Sirmaur, Malaun, Sabathu that from Sutlej to Kali River"

      British army marching for Shrinagar

     In first week of June 1815, British soldiers under Major Baldock reached to Jogyana Athur via Dehradun, Nalapani, Chamuvakhal. Sudarshan Shah followed Baldock with his a few supporters, Sivram, Kashiram, Asadu Gusain and ten Panch (juries of  village councils). Sudarshan Shah camped at Bamund.
        Gurkha commander Subba Jagjit was there at Tori rope Way Bridge for stopping British army. A few Gurkha soldiers also reached Tori from Ravain. Gurkha soldiers fired on British soldiers. However, later on Gurkha soldiers escaped towards Shrinagar. British army camped at Tori and Sudarshan Shah camped at Athur. Quite a few -Ex officials (Mutsadi), village chiefs, workers, councilors, Rautelas (sons of King family members from their female Keepers) and people of Garhwal reached to Athur for meeting Sudarshan Shah (Archives of Tehri Kingdom).
               Alternation of Nepal resident Bakhtawar Singh

    Bamshah informed about British-Kumaon Treaty to Bakhtavar Singh Basnyet the Nepal Resident of Shrinagar. Through a letter, Bamshah requested /suggested Gurkha officials to reach Doti from Garhwal with their weapons and properties. Bamshah informed that it was sure that British rule would be there on Shrinagar. Bamshah suggested to Nepalese officials of Garhwal that after British reaching to Shrinagar, they should follow the instruction of British.
    When Bakhtawar Singh Basnyet read the above letter, Bakhtawar Singh cried and spoke – "the high officers became traitors! Nobody is now patriotic" Bakhtawar Singh had an opinion that Bamshah handed over Kumaon by betrayal. Since, Amar Singh Thapa was in charge of Garhwal; Bakhtawar Singh Basnyet did not leave Shrinagar and stayed back in Shrinagar.
  The representatives of Amar Singh Thapa those came to Shrinagar handed over the letter of Amar Singh to Bakhtawar Singh, informed about Malaun Treaty and made him understand that it was not possible for resisting the British power.
             Major Baldock camped at Ranihat with his army. Sudarshan Shah reached on 17th Jeshtha , Vikrami Samvat 1872 ( June 1815) to Ranihat. Sudarshan Shah camped at 'Bail Nagan' rivulet bank. Baldock called Bakhtawar Singh Basnyet at Ranihat camp and informed him about Malaun treaty.
  Loaders and carriers were provided to Gurkha officials and solders (Garhrajvanshkavya by Maularam). Gurkha showed their desire to see Sudarshan Shah as he was Boldan Badrinath too (Speaking God Badrinath).  Major Baldock did not permit Gurkha for meeting the King. On 21st Jeth VS 1872, Gurkha army officials, soldiers and civilians started marching for Nepal from Shrinagar. Those Gurkha were not interested for going back to Nepal they were pushed out from Shrinagar. Those Gurkha had to flee from Shrinagar.

 Ratnambar Datt Chandola 'Ratna': a Garhwali poet
Critical and Chronological History of Modern Garhwali (Asian) Poetry – 18

                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
           Ratnambar Chandola was born in Thapli village, Kafolsyun, Pauri Garhwal in September 1901. Chandola expired in Delhi on 9th February 1975.
  Ratnambar Chandola was a Hindi and English literature creator. He published poetry collections and stage plays in Hindi and two books in English are unpublished.
         Randomly he created Garhwali poetries in his young age. There are a couple of Garhwali poetries available with Garhwali critics. His poems are of images of Garhwal. The language is simple and he uses common phrases.

                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
           Adityaram Dudphudi was a versatile personality of Garhwal. Dudphudi was freedom fighter, social workers, Hindi creative and Garhwali creative. He was put jails by British government for many times.
         Adityaram Dudphudi was born in 1914, in Malla Sainj village, Dadamandi of Pauri Garhwal. He is no more now. 
       Adityaram Dudphudi is remembered for his outstanding works of translating Sanskrit classics into Garhwali.
