                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
          Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi' was a freedom fighter, Garhwali poet, a Hindi poet, article writer, an editor, social worker and politician.
    Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi' was born in 1911, in Sirala village of Devprayag region, Kandarsyun Patti, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He is no more with us and expired in Devprayag.

    Bhagwati Charan Nirmohi was MLA of UP legislature assembly for two times. He represented Pauri region.
          Bhagwati Charan 'Sharma' published a Garhwali poetry collection 'Hilans' in 1948. Hilans is an important poetry collection for Garhwali language. The poems by 'Nirmohi' are from experiences of the poet. Famous critics Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna states that all poems of 'Hilans' are marvelous. Pathos rapture creation is the main expertise of Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi'.

   The poems of Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi' are very sensitive those are having the struggle of farmers and deprive class. Though, poems are having pathos but those poems also inspire for getting the target of life.
            Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi' also created poems of philosophy and images of Garhwali's geographical Nature.
  The notable Garhwali Poetry Critic Dr Jagdamba Prasad Kotnala appreciated the uses of simple phrases by Bhagwati Charan Sharma 'Nirmohi' and he places Nirmohi as an international poet.

एक भली सी मौं का घर पर पळ्यां छया द्वी प्राणी ।
खाडु एक,लगोठ्या पौंन्दू रैने पीडो पाणी।
घास पात देंदू रहन्दी छै,वे घर की बौराणी।
मूक छया द्वी,किलै पळ्यां हम,या कुछ नी जाणी।
एक शाम को वीं मौ का घर ,ऐ देवता को धामी।
खै-पे की तैन डौर संभाले और थकुली थामी।
घमकै डौंर थकुली छणके,देवता नाचे पान्डा।
ओबरा बुगठ्या खाडू की जिकुड़ी पर झरक्या काँडा।
पुछण बैठी बुगठ्या,खाडू जी
या ढिम-ढिम के की ?
डौंर्या यू कै गौं कू आये, मनसा भली नी ये की।
बोले खाडू, बुगठ्या भाई,देवता येन नचाये।
माल मारिकी भोळ चली जालू ,यू यां को आये।
त्वे मां ,मैं मा अब द्वीईयूं मां, काल एक को ऐगी।
यो डौंर्या अपणी झाबी पर,काल हमारू ळैगी।
ये को क्या बिगड़े ? कुछ ना, रुपया येन कमाये ।
कैकू हमन बिगाड़े कुछ ना,मैत हमारी आये।
नाचे यदि नरसिंह समझिले,दुनिया रूठे मैंकू ।
नागर्जा नाचे समझिले, दुनियां चूके त्वेकू।
खैले घास भेंटिले मैंसन,भेंट आखिरी दाँ की।
त्वे या मैं पर केतू ऐगे, या ढिम- ढिम
ह्वे यां की।

स्याळ कुकर से भितरी भरिगे क्वी गोरा क्वी काळा।
टप टप छन आम सी टपकणा,भरे गये सब पाखू।
सौण्याँ,फगुण्याँ मंगसीरू छन,क्वी चैतू बैसाखू।
रोज जुटौंदू यूँ कू खाणू, ढीलो ह्वेगे काखो।
किन्तु भूख मां फक्यै जाँदान ये चुल्ला को भी राखू।
घाण सूँगर सी लमडौणा छन कख कै देखा भाला।
मैं सन ना पूछा भैजी कतना छन नौना बाळा।
पकण नि देंदा पूरो खाणू,रिटदन जना चिलाँगा।
पिते जाँदु जब कवारूली करदन ये नाँगा काँगा।
बेचि देनी यूंकी पुटग्यूं का खातिर, छा द्वी ढाँगा।
बुतणी बाणी केन करूं अब, छन बाँजा सब फाँगा।
चिन्ता से यूं की ब्वै को भी, प्राण लगिगे डाळा।
मैं सन ना पूछा भैजी कतना छन नौना बाळा।
मैल कंट छन लग्यां गेरि पर।घुस्यूं होव जन बाड़ी।
बटन काटिकी गुत्थी खेल्दन,प्वटगी रंदन उघाड़ी।
पाणी माँगदन रात होन्द जब ,जर की ताड़ी फाड़ी।
कैका पेट मरोड़ा उठदन, कै मूं दिखलौं नाड़ी।
धरदौं गुल्ल कै परैं,कै पर लाल तचैकी ताळा।
मैं सन ना पूछा भैजी कतना छन नौना बाळा।
राज रोग लगीगे स्वेणी पर,हाल बणीने माड़ा।
खूब नि होन्दी ,करै चुक्यों कतना ही झाड़ा ताड़ा।
हटगी भटगी की मेरा भी ,रूंगड़े गैने बाड़ा।
लिमदो झिमदो दिन कटणू छौं,काल पड़िगये चाड़ा।
जोगी ही छन भला गिरस्थी उद ईं बंज्जर
घाला।

रखा बृग्छ रखा कुल की लाज
माटी की भुक्की तुम लेंदा रवा
जडयोंन पाणी तईं पेंदी रवा
फौंग्यों मा चखुलों का स्वर गाज
रखा बृग्छ रखा कुल की लाज।

अपणो ही बाळो -सी छन डाळा
द्यू धर्मी धरती का तुम रखवाळा
पुजदि रला हम छै ऋतु माँज
रखा बृग्छ रखा कुल की लाज।

विषमई  पौन की करतई पान
सेळि मीठी हवा करदन दान
शिवजी का रूप मा तुम छौं बिराज
रखा बृग्छ रखा कुल की लाज।

पाणी मा अब माटु छोळयोंण  ल्येगि
बांसुरी का भितनै ही अब भौण स्येगि
फफरायूं पराणी बाक्दो आज     
रखा बृग्छ रखा कुल की लाज।

                  स्वतंत्रता से पैलाक भारतमा श्राद्ध समय याने फादर्स -मदर्स डेज।  अब भारत मा अलग से फादर्स -मदर्स डे मनाणो प्रचलन ,, संस्कृति माने फैशन  अति प्रसिद्ध ह्वे गे।  ब्वे -बाबुकुण त ना पर भारतवास्युं कुण कुछ बि बहाना से पार्टी -सार्टी करणो , लेख लिखणो या भाषण भीषण करणो मौका  अवश्य ऐगेन।
          अचकाल फेसबुक,  व्हट्सअप , लिंकदिन  सरीखा सोसल मीडिआ मा तो फादर्स -मदर्स डेज का दिन ब्वे -बाबुं की इन पूजा हूंद कि भौत सा स्वर्गवासी ब्वै -बाब भगवान से प्रार्थना करदन कि हम तै वापस भ्याजो - हमर नौन्याळ हमारी कथगा रिस्पेक्ट करणा छन अर हम इख स्वर्ग मा उदासीनता की रुटि खाणा छंवां जब कि बच्चा हम तै केक पेस्ट्री खलाणो तयार बैठ्याँ छन।
      जी हाँ  स्वर्गवासी माता -पिता  फादर्स -मदर्स डेज का दिनों पृथ्वीलोक का ब्वै -बाबुँ से ईर्ष्या करणा रौंदन अर बुल्दन - काश हमर टैम पर बि  फादर्स -मदर्स डेज हुँदा तो हम बि अपण बच्चों की अंग्रेजी ढंगै  पूजा पांदा। सोरग हो , नरक हो या पृथ्वीलोक हो ईर्ष्या , जलन अर आत्मा कबि नि मरदी।
  खैर मी बि पोलिटिकल पार्ट्यूं प्रवक्ता ह्वे ग्यों।  पूछे जांद कि भारतमा  इथगा ग्युं ह्वे गे त क्या करण तो प्रवक्ता को जबाब हूंद हम पाकिस्तान को छटी का दूध याद दिला देंगे।  छ्वीं छे "ज्यूँद मा भूकन मारी -तिरैं बरखिम  जीमण भारी (फादर्स डे स्पेसियल )" अर मि ईर्ष्या पर लिखण लग ग्यों।  जादा टीवी समाचार दिखणो यू इ नुकसान हूंद।
         तो पर्सी फादर्स डे छौ अर मि एक हफ्ता से पैल अर एक हफ्ता पैंथर तक फार्ड्स डे का वजै से व्यस्त ह्वे जांद ।   हरेक मित्र अपण फादर त ना किन्तु म्यार दगुड़ पसंद जि करदो।
          फादर्स डे से पैलाकि राति कुण म्यार पांच दगड्योंन एक फादर्स डे की बड़ी ग्रैंड पार्टी एक बड़ो थ्री स्टार  होटलम धरीं छे।  सब्युंक फादर्स स्टेज मा बैठाळे गेन अर फिर डीजे , भयंकर म्यूजिक का बीच फादरुं सम्मान मा केक काटे गे। दारु -सारु तो आम बात छे तो दारु का गदन बि बौंगेन।  फिर कुछ देर बाद  याने द्वी घंटा बाद फादरुं तैं ऊंक ओल्ड एज हॉउस भिजे गे अर पार्टी सुबेर तीन बजे तक चलणि राइ।  फादर्स बि हैप्पी छया  कि फादर्स डे का बहाना से ही सही नाती -पूतों की सकल तो द्याख अर पूत बि हैप्पी छ्या कि फादर तै सम्मान देक अपण स्वर्ग का रस्ता तो साफ ह्वे इ गे होलु। 
   पर्सी मीन  एक मित्र  का  फेसबुक पर  फादर्स डे संबंधित  चालीस पोस्ट देखिन  अर हरेक पोस्ट तैं Like करण लाजमी छौ।  फेसबुक का सदस्य समजणा छया कि गढ़वाल मा यू ही एक मात्र श्रवण कुमार च।   पर असलियत या च कि ब्वे बाब श्रवण कुमारौ  दगड़ नि रौंदन बलकणम अपण बेटीक इख रौंदन। अब ऑफ लाइन ही नहीं ऑन लाइन बि ढकोसला बाजिका माध्यम बण गे।   
            जन कि फादर्स डे का चार  दिन पैंथर  एक मित्रन संडे कुण इ फादर्स डे की पार्टी दीण ।  फादर्स डे का दिन मित्रकी मदर इन लौ का बर्थ डे छौ तो मित्र तै फादर तै पैंथर ढकेलण इ पड़णु च बिचारो मित्र !
   अच्काल फादर्स डे -मदर्स डे मा इनी ढकोसला चलणु च जन पैल जिंदा मा ब्वै बाबु तैं भरपेट खाणो नि दीण किन्तु तिरैं -बरखी कुण सरा अडगैं (क्षेत्र ) तै भोज खलांद छा । कति त ब्वे तै पीटदा बि छन अर बरखी ही ना अपितु दैलु -फैलु से सप्ताह उर्यांदन । 
           एक आधुनिक श्रवण कुमार च जब तक ब्यौ नि ह्वे छौ तब तलक वेको झगड़ा अपण भाई -भौजुं दगड़ ई राइ कि तुम माता -पिता की सेवा नि करणा छंवां , सेवा नि करणा छंवां।  पर जनि ब्यौ ह्वाइ ब्वे बाब त छवाड़ा मन्योडर  तैं मारो गोली , वै आधुनिक श्रवण कुमारन गांव आण इ बंद कर दे। अर  अब श्राद्ध करणो गया तो क्या नाशिक त्र्यंबकेश्वर बि गे।

              By November 1815, the Army of Ochterlony started gathering at Balvi the border region of Saran. Ochterlony decided capturing Bhichhakhori Ghat by crossing three places of Chudia /Churiya Hill through three Army Battalions. Ahead of Bhichhakhori Ghat, there were cities and Garhs of Makwanpur. Gurkha planned to attack suddenly on British army Bhichhakhori Ghat Fort.  Ochterlony marched with 9500 soldiers and Canons for Bhichhakhori Ghat. Lieutenant Colonel Nichols was supposed to meet Ochterlony Mahajogi raod (thirty miles in west of Bhichhakhori Ghat) ahead of Rapti valley with 5000 soldiers. 35 miles right away from Ochterlony, Colonel Kelli marched towards Hariharpur through Lakhand Rivulet with 4000 soldiers. On 3rd February, Ochterlony started his march towards Bhichhakhori Ghat. On third day Ochterlony with army reached to Bhichhakhori Ghat region. Ochterlony stayed there for five days. However, no Gurkha soldiers were there in scene.
      An opium seller deceptively informed   that there was a steep and difficult road through Baluwater for Makwanpur but there was no Gurkha army. Ochterlony reached near Makwanpur with hardship. Gurkha soldiers ran away from Bhichhakhori Ghat towards Makwanpur. On 27th February 1816, a Battalion captured Bhichhakhori Ghat. After capturing Hathora, Ochterlony marched to Makwanpur.  On afternoon of 27th he reached to Makwanpur. 
        Second day, 3000 Gurkha attacked on British camp with canon fires. A gun fire blown ahead of Ochterlony camp and his servant with an inkpot died there. Before sun set there was fierce battle.  As per written records (Premble, Invasion of Nepal), Gurkha lost 800 soldiers and hundreds of Gurkha soldiers got injured. British lost 45 soldiers, 175 were injured and 2 were missing. Gurkha ran away from Makwanpur.
  When Kelli and his army reached to Hariharpur Gurkha army commander Ranjor Singh Thapa was there with 1000 soldiers for protection.  British army fired Canons continuously. There was heavy casualty in Gurkha camp. Gurkha commander Ranjor Singh Thapa and his army ran away from Hariharpur.
       According to a Gurkha source, there was war at other place too.  Maularam illustrated that war but with exaggeration.
                                End of War
     When a portion of Ochterlony army was marching ahead of Makwanpur, Bakhtawar Singh the brother of Bhimsen Thapa sent Chandrasekhar Upadhyaya with a treaty letter authorized by the Nepal King to Ochterlony. Ochterlony insulted the Envoy for a while and then later on took the letter. Ochterlony offered authorized Treaty letter by Governor General to Upadhyaya.
          Then, that  was end of war.

          Taradatt Lakhera is famous in Garhwali poetry world for his melodious verses and emotions in the poems
            Taradatt Lakhera ''Nakshtra' was born in a village Jakhand of Tehri Garhwal in 1912. He is no more now.

   Notable Critic Abodh Bandhu appreciated his work very much and said he was 'Gadhwali Uthaun ku Bhakt Bhala'.
    Taradatt Lakhera 'Nakshtra' created poems of various subjects and tones. His favorite rapture was pathos and was seen marvelously in his poetry collection .Man'. He was opinion that every person should work for developing society.

                                 Garhwali literature has been facing many problems from the beginning when the Garhwalis started publishing various types of literature. The biggest problem for Garhwali literarians or literature creative is finding readers at a place and then distributing the literature to the readers because Garhwalis are scattered here and there in India and abroad. It is commonly said in humorous way among Garhwali literature creative that the Garhwali writer writes Garhwali literature aloof, publishes himself on his cost, reads himself and her or his successors destroy the literature by selling Garhwali literature to raddiwalas. From the beginning, Garhwali writers have been facing the problem of getting the addresses of real readers of Garhwali literature and dispatching them the published materials. This is the reason that even after publishing many books in Garhwali language, many Garhwali authors are unfamiliar or nameless in the jungle of Garhwali literature.

       Internet is again bringing the problem for Garhwali literary creative. Those who don't have facilities for typing Garhwali literature in Devnagari script and then submitting it to the relevant blogs will be in darkness of unfamiliarity.

   Mitra Nand Dabral Sharma is not also such a Garhwali poet who is discussed in the literary field nor do common Garhwalis know about the big contribution of Mitra NandDabral Sharma for Garhwali poems and proverbs.

          Mitra Nand Dabral is an Ayurvaidic doctor in Jua area of Tihri Garhwal. His great grandfather was the state doctor (Raj Vaidya) of Garhwali kingdom in Shri Nagar. Due to new alignment and other reasons, along with the king, Dabral family had to shift from Shri Nagar to Tihri and used to reside in Kafalpani – Dang area (Tihri Garhwal). Mitra Nand comes from the learned family of Dabral of Timali (Dabralsiyun, Pauri Garhwal), From Sanskrit point of view, Timali is famous for college of Sanskrit affiliated to Kashi Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Timali, Dabralssyun . The inhabitants of Dabralsyun, Udayapur and Dhangu Patti used to say that the dogs, cats and domestic animals of Timali understand Sanskrit very well.
                Mitra Nand Dabral was born in Kafalpani (Tehri) in 1911. Mitranand Dabral is no more now.

       Mitra Nand Dabral wrote many verses in Garhwali languages and he used to try using pure Tiryali dialects in his poems. Though, his contribution in Garhwali poetry and prose require more researches. Till date we have the following details about the published work of Mitra Nand Dabral in Garhwali language:

• Fyunlee- A memorable a collections of various types, styles , forms and subjects of Garhwali poems

• Garhwali Kavita Samgrah: Being a doctor, Mittra Nand Sharma has to roam around Jua area and come in contact with various people. In his medical practice, Mitra NandDabral collected many proverb, maxim, axiom, adage or aphorisms of Garhwali vocabulary. He published those proverbs in this volume

• Gangadi Chakor: A superb example of mixing tragedy, satire and humour in creating poetry
• Bhaj Givindam ; A collection of Garhwali poems
• Satya Narayan Jee ki Nayi Vrat Katha: Dabral uses new subject in this poetry collection.

Mitra Nand is a famous social worker of his area and participates in various cultural and ritual programs with passion, enthusiasm and eagerness. He is very famous for his singing in 'Radheshyami tarj' (Tone)

फग्वसे -फग्वसे की ढींका फ्वड़णा अर कूणा खैणना छां
बेळी     परौ नी आटै चुंग्टी , लूणै गारी

        The Sugauli Treaty Letter signed by Governor General was having 9 Provisions as follows –
1-There would be permanent treaty between Honorable East India Company and Nepal
2- Nepal declares leaving the rights on disputed land before the war and accepts the rights of East India Company on those regions.
3- Nepal King hands over the following land forever to east India Company-
1st - The plain land between Kali and Rapti Rivers
2nd  The land between Rapti and Gandak Rivers
3rd  – Whole plain land between Gandak and Kupta Rivers
4th  – Whole plain land between Meechi and Tista Rivers
5th – The fort of Nagari and hill regions of Meechi River, the ports of Nagar Kot towards morang Hill will be under British. The Gurkha soldiers have to vacate those regions within 40 days.
4- Gurkha Sardar and Bhardar will get pension due to above region coming under British territory. British would pay pension annually rupees two lakhs. Nepal King will submit the names of Bhardar and Sardar and pension amount. As soon as the King submit the names and amount Governor General would sign that paper and would be sent to those personnel.
5- Nepal King and his family will leave all rights on the territories of west of Kali River forever. The King will offer in writing that he will not have any relation with west of Kali River.
6-Nepal King will not make any loss to the territory under Sikkim King. In case of dispute between Sikkim King and Nepal King or subjects the decision of British will be final and Nepal would abide the decision.
7- Nepal King assured in writing that Nepal Kingdom will not offer service /employment to British, Indian and European without permission of British.
8- Both the parties will keep Advocate in courts of  both the parties.
9- There are nine sections on this Treaty. Nepal King will hand over his acceptance to Lieutenant Colonel Bradshaw within 15 days. Bradshaw will send the acceptance to Governor General and the acceptance of Governor General would be handed over to Nepal king by Bradshaw.
       Bradshaw handed over the letter with stamp to Chandrasekhar Upadhyaya on 2nd December 1815.  Upadhyaya handed over acceptance letter of Nepal with sign and stamp to Ochterlony on 4th March 1816 in Makwanpur. Ochterlony handed over the acceptance letter duly signed and stamp of Governor General to Upadhyaya.

Sarvesh Juyal: A Versatile Personality of Garhwali (Asian) Literature

              Sarvesh Juyal was born in 1914, village Sujgaon, Rawatsyun, Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand. His contribution to Garhwali language literature is of two ways in Delhi. Apart from creating literature, Sarvesh is famous for networking and creating organizations as Garhwal Sahityik Mandal and Himalaya Kala Sangam in Delhi. He was also connected to Gadh Bharati another Garhwali literature organization. Sarvesh Juyal, a couple of years back, was very much active in calling meetings of Garhwali creative and helping them in publishing Garhwali literature. Once, Delhi was called the literature capital of Garhwali language and Sarvesh was one of the factors for motivating Garhwal language creative for collective wisdom and for performing in collective way.
        He wrote more than fifty poems in Garhwali and tens of Hindi poems. He has also written Garhwali prose published in Gad Myateki Ganga, Girish, Shailvani, Satyapath, Maulyar and other regional papers of Garhwal.
          His main contribution is appreciated by literature creative for organizing mini conferences of Garhwali creative of various field.
        The following poem is an example of his exclusive way of creating satirical poem. Sarvesh Juyal uses Garhwali phrases in exclusive ways for creating one of the remarkable satirical poems in Garhwali poetic world.

         जख्या जमगे
कवि : सर्वेश जुयाल (1914, सुजगौं )
रोजी पुंगड्यों जख्या जमगे , गोडिक करणों भि क्या च।
हऴया पराया   दगड़ा , ढीका फोड़िक मरणो भी क्या च
छौंदा मालिक रांड ह्वेग्याँ , नथुली को मरजात क्या च
सुख की गाण्यू ज्वानी ढळगे , बौळेक करणों भी क्या च।
बच्यौंदा छन , पण बोलि बिराणि,   ऊँन बिंगणो भी क्या च
माँ जैन  देखि   हि नी च अपणी , लाज तौंक   हरणों भी क्या च
जिकुड़ी छन जो निरा ढुंगा , ऊं पर जमणा भी क्या च
आँखा छन पण अंसधारी नी छन , ऊँन बगणो भी क्या च
मनख्या का बीच कंदूड़ खोलि , सुंगरु न करणों भी क्या च
अंधा बैरों की डारी का बीच , बोलिक करणों भी क्या च

The Jakhya weeds have come up, what is the use of hoeing
The plough man has gone to other's farm, what is the use of breaking earth lump
She is spending life as widow, what is the use of ornaments and jewels
The juvenile age gone by dreaming comforts, what is the use of maddening
They talk with me but on foreign language, they will not understand my language
Those did not see their mother, what is the use of insulting them
Their heart is of stone, there won't grow any plant
The eyes are tearless, the tears won't flow
What pigs would do opening their ears among human beings
What is the use of telling something among blind and deaf

मौसम त सदान बदलीं
अर उड़दारा परिंदा याने
चखुला भी सदान उड़ींन
दूर देश मुल्कों तलक।
पण वूंका घोल त रैं
सदान इख्या जग्गा
जख्या -तक्खि
वुत नि पौंछा कखि।

आज आप अफ्फुं  तैं ही पूछा
अपणी संस्कृति की चखुलीयूं
चुळैख्यू  - चुळैख्यू उड़ैकी
संस्कृति अर संस्कारूं
तैं पूछा कि मूल संस्कारूं थैं
सुरक्षित रखणू क्या जरूरी नी छ ?
शायद हमरा -तुमरा सब्युंका
मूल घोल त संस्कार ही छन
यू जरूर रय्यां चंदन
जतन जुट्टैकी जख्या तक्खि
