  Dr Purushottam Dobhal: A Garhwali (Asian) Playwright and Poet

Critical and Chronological History of Modern Garhwali (Asian) Poetry – 35

                    Literature Historian:  Bhishma Kukreti
          Dr Purushottam Dobhal was expert in writing in Garhwali, Sanskrit, English and Hindi. In Garhwali, he is famous for writing dramas of social concern. Dobhal was educationist, a social activist and also work for opening many schools.
            Dr Purushottam Dobhal was born in 1920, in a Himalayan village Musmola of Tihri Garhwal. He passed Acharya degree in distinction that is with gold medalist. He served in many colleges. He was Ph D in Sanskrit language
              Purushottam Dobhal won the first prize in World Sanskrit Short Story Competition in 1953-54. In Sanskrit, he wrote dramas and published three books of drama and collection of dramas.

         He contributed a lot for many English magazines.
        Dobhal wrote dramas in Hindi and short stories in this language too.
   Dr Purushottam Dobhal contributed in Garhwali poetry world too His first and famous Garhwali poetry 'Na Itha yad Ava' was published in a Garhwali poetry collection 'Hinsar' in 1955.  His another poem a symbolic or Chhayavadi poem ' Dhunyaro yo Utho' was appreciated by critics.  Garhwali literature critic Dr Dhoundiyal states the said poem as timeless poem (Kaljayi).
   Dobhal created very sensitive and nature illustrating poem having Love Rapture in the centre.
His language is mixed with Tehri dialects and Sanskritized Garhwali words.

खिल्यां छन फूल बणु बणु मा , रम्याळी बार छाँईं छ
सुनेरी फ्यूंळि  हंसणी छ , उमैलो बगत आयूं छ
रमैला पौथलुं बासणा छन , म्यरा ज्यूका पास आवा
न इथगा याद तुम आवा।
तुम्हारो धार को गैणो , तुम्हारी अपूणि सी काया
खड़ी छ घाम मा दोफराs , जरा हेरा इथैं क्वांसा
बुरांसs फूलि गिन गैल्या , अंयारs कलबलायूँ छ
जुन्याळी रात मा आवा।
खुली पाख्युं -सि ज्वान्नी छ , बिखा की ओंस बगणी छ
उडारु का भितर प्राण , खुद्युं छ , कबलाणु छ
तिसळो  जीव सा दिल यो , उणासी घाम मा ब्याकुल
उड़ा पोथली बणी आवा।
यु पगला प्राण पिलसेणू , अँध्यारो घोर छायूं छ
अमासा की रात सा जीवन , दिवा की बाति  सा प्राणs
शरत की ईं जुन्याळी मा , ऋतु बौड़िक आईं छ ,
उलारs  रूप ली आवा।
मधुर सी स्वाणि मुखड़ी मा बुरांसी आज फूलीं छs 
सरग का गैणा आयाँ छन , रम्याळा दान्तु चौक मा
बसंती रूप लीकs या,  सरग की ज्वान्नि उतरे अब
दिसौं मा आज तुम छावा।

                 Dr Purushottam Dobhal wrote many plays in Garhwali language too.
His dramas Bindra Kuansa, Burans, Kantha Mankai Jone, Tillu Rautelee , Kalpana, Suber and Fajitu in Garhwali language are famous plays . These plays were staged many times at different cities. Dobhal also delivered many radio-plays in Garhwali from Akashvani
       The subject of plays of Purushottam Dobhal are mainly related to social and contemporary issues.
The Tillu Rauteli play is based on famous folklores of Garhwal, Himalayas.
        His dialogues in Garhwali plays are simple but are influenced by Sanskrit but Sanskritized Garhwali dialogues do not become hurdle but support the characterization in the plays. Twist in the tale , dramatic language and  reality make his play attractive to the audience.
                Dr Purushottam Dobhal expired in 2003 in Dehradun, Himalaya.

तु  सुबेर बट्टि लेकी  रात ह्वोण तक
चार कितला उमाळन बटि छांच छ्वळन तक
भात पकाण बट्टि भांडा मंजाण तक
करछि दाथडु कुच्याण बटि कुटळ चलाण तक
घास पूळि  बट्टि लखड़ भारा  तक 
तु   सुबेर बट्टि लेकी  रात ह्वोण तक   
तिन सब्बु कि पूछि , तेरी कैल पूछि
खाण बट्टि स्योण तक ?
तिन सब कू ख्याल राखि , तेरु कैल राखि ?
सुबेर बट्टि लेकी  रात  तक ?
सबु कि सुख सुबद्यानि सोचण खुणि
सब्बु का स्वीणा वीणा होण खुणि
सब्बु मा अपणा  पराण राखण , खुणि
तेरु पराण राजि खुशी बच्यूं राण
भौत जरूरि  च माँ भौत  जरूरि ।

  दिखे जावो तो फ्लू हमेशा बेमौसम बरसातौ तरां इ हूंद।  जड्डुं अर बरखा मा त फ्लू हूण नै बात नी च पर फ्लू तो रुड्युं मा बि सौरि जांद। 
जुकाम , सर्दी , बुखार , बंद नाक , नाक बिटेन पाणी बगण , छींक पर छींक आण , आंख्युं मा पाणी , लाल आँखि , बदन टूटण , खाई बाण आदि फ्लू की निसाणी च।
डाक्टरम जैल्या तो डाक़्टर बस इथगा इ बुल्दो कि कुछ ना वायरल इन्फेक्सन च।  अर वायरल इन्फेक्सन माने भूत जन लगण।  हूंद च पर वायरस दिखेंद नी अर भूत हूंद च पर दिखेंद नी।  बस द्वी महसूस हूंदन।
भूत अर फ्लू मा कुछ  साम्यता हूंदन। कुछ असमानता हूंदन अर द्वी परेशान करदन।
भूत कबि बि लग सकद तो फ्लू बि बगैर न्यूत  देकि ही आंद।  भूत हो चाहे फ्लू ! क्वी बि यूंकुण स्वागत गेट नि लगांदन किन्तु फिर बि यी लग इ जांदन।
भूतुं अर फ्लू दुयुंक मौसम हूंद।  पैलाक जमाना मा द्वी तीन दिनों मा गांव मा द्वी चार लोगुं पर भूत लग जांद छौ अर एक द्वी बाछी  कड़कड़ी ह्वे जांदी छे।  इनि जब फ्लू आंद तो सरा शहर का लोग खंसण मिसे जांदन।
अच्छा हाँ  ! भूत लग जावो तो दोष भूत तै नि दिए जांद अपितु मरीज पर  दोष दिए जांद कि स्या लाल साड़ी पैरिक वै गदन घास काटणो किलै गे , स्यु वै पत्थर मा किलै बैठ या स्यु कुबगत पर उनां  झाड़ा पिसाब ग्यायि  किलै च -एक घंटा टट्टी नि रोकी सकुद छौ  आदि आदि। इनि डाक़्टर त ना पर मरीज का परिवार वळ या पड़ोसी मरीज पर भगार लगांदन कि ऑफिस मा कै फ्लू का मरीज का  समिण बैठि  होलु , बगैर हाथ धुयाँ खाणा खै  होलु या कै फ्लू का दुख्यर तै  किस कर दे होलु आदि आदि। भूत का मरीज तै जोर से कोसे जांद कि तू उख किलै गे , तीन इन किलै कार तो फ्लू का मरीज तै बि डांटे जांद कि तीन इन किलै कार  आदि आदि।
डाक़्टर कबि नि बतांद कि यू फ्लू इन्फ्लूएंजा वायरस A ,  इन्फ्लूएंजा वायरस B या  इन्फ्लूएंजा वायरस C से हुयूं च , बस दवै दे दींदु।  उ त मरीज ही पुछद कि जी कै टाइपक फ्लू च तब जैक कबि डाक़्टर बथांदु कि टाइप A च B च या C च।  इनि भूत भगाण वळ तांत्रिक इन नि बतांद कि कै किस्मौ भूत लग्युं च।  उ त गांव वाळ इ तांत्रिक /झाड़ ताड़ दिंदेर तैं बतांदन कि फलण डाळ तौळक भूत ह्वालु , अलण गैर गदनक भूत ह्वालु या कै घटक सैद लग्युं होलु।  फिर तब जैक जोर जबरदस्ती मा तांत्रिक तैं सुदि मुदि बताण पोड़द कि कैं जगाकु भूत लग्युं च।
जन आम जनता ही ना तांत्रिक बि नि बतै सकुद कि यू भूत छुट मुट भूत च या बड़ो भयंकर भूत च उनि आम खांसी अर इन्फ्लूएंजा फ्लू मा अंतर बताण  या अनुभव करण कठण काम च।   
आम साधारण डाक़्टर बि फ्लू मरीज तै पैल छुटि मुटी दवै दींदु अर फिर धीरे धीरे तेज , अधिक असरकारक दवै बदलद। यदि दुसर तिसर दफै क दवै से बि फरक नि पड़दु त मरीज डाक़्टर ही बदल दींदु।   तांत्रिक बि पैल रंगुड़ या राई  मन्त्रिक दींदु , फरक नि   पोड़ त रख्वाळि  करद अर तब बि फरक नि पोड़ तो फिर कंडळी -कांडुं से पश्वा (मरीज ) तै झपोड़दू अर घट स्थापन जन मंत्र पढ़दु । यदि तब बि भूत नि हट तो मरीजका घरवळ दूर का बड़ा तांत्रिक बुलौंदन।
उन मेरी राय च।  छुटि   मुटि खांसी हो अर आस पास फ्लू का दबदबा हो तो तुरंत डाक़्टरम भगण चयेंद।  अर यदि सचमुच मा भूत ही लग्युं च तो तांत्रिक याने मनोचिकित्सक का पास जाण जरूरी च।   
उन भूतूँ  बारा मा त मि नि जणदु पर फ्लू का बारा मा मि बोली सकुद कि साफ सफै अर पौष्टिक भोजन से फ्लू की बीमारी का अवसर कम ह्वे जांदन।

                    Fraser Reaching to Garhwal

                     Attack on Convention Social Norms in Garhwal
     There was sorrow all over Garhwal due to mischievous administration under Major Baldock. In new administration, there was no difference between low and high caste. There was strong Caste System in Garhwal. The upper caste Brahmins and Rajput were feeling the pinches of new system.  The food habits of Muslims and Harijan were similar to English or European officers and European officers started offer importance to those classes. Officially, the Slavery was banned but officers did not apply the rule strictly.  However, there was apprehension among those who had slaves.
The judiciary was in bad conditions.
                       Arrival of Fraser

          British Government instructed Fraser for reaching to Garhwal by 20th January 1816, for initial management in administration and police administration (Devr). British officials instructed Fraser before that and Fraser did not reach till November 1815. Officials in Shrinagar sent the lists (Rukka ) of Important Persons (Bhale Manush) of Garhwal with seal to Fraser before he started journey from Delhi.  An instruction from Fraser administration to Kamleshwar Temple Shrinagar is there in Temple Archive (Dabral). The instruction is as under -
There is a round seal  ( Farjen Sahab Bahadur) of Fraser  on left side and writing is as under –
  Hukuma Farijan Sahab ke sambat 1872 (October 1815)
Mahant Prasad Puri ke age (I) koi roj main Shrinagar dakhal hoga (I) tum jagirdar Bhale Admi hone ki karoge (I) hajar rahoge (I) mansab badhainga (,) haajr n huyense peechhe pachhtavage (,) Katak 12 (Sanbat. 1872)
Same Rukka or instructions were sent other Bhale Mansh. The list of Bhale Manash (gentlemen) is not available. However, there was a list of Bhale Manas of 1811 in Kamleshwar Temple. It seems (Dabral) that Fraser administrations sent to those gentlemen. The list of Bhale Manash (Gentleman) of 1811 in Kamleshwar Archive is as under –

Dabral offered logics that those Bhal mansah would have not become Buru Mansha within four years. Hence Dabral stated that the Rukka (Instructions) were sent to above Gentlemen and others too.
Fraser did not change much in administration of Gurkha administration. His planning was implemented by G.W Trail the Assistant Commissioner of Kumaon

As the historian remember and praise Estonian poets Betti Alver, Uku Masing, Kersiti Marilaas, Bernard Kangro, Paul Viiding, for their desire to reach a deeper intellectual and emotional level, the Garhwali critics praise dr Mahavir Prasad Gairola for his desire to reach intellectual level in his poetry. However, these Estonian poets were against ideological coercion and totalitarian concepts, Mahavir Gairola was for spiritual communism or socialism but he always criticized the 'difference between ideological saying and real action (implementation) by communists' in his poems.
Dr Gairola was very prominent signature of Garhwali literature till his death. Dr Gairola was prose (essays, short stories and novel) maker , drama writer and illustrious poet of Garhwali language.
                Kapali ki Chhamote is his fist poetry collection published in 1983 Ad. There are sixty one poems in this volume and Tiryali (dialect of Tihri Garhwal especially around old Tihri city ) dialect is the specialty of Dr Gairola . Though many critics as the editor of Uttarakhand Khabar sar Vimal Negi criticized his uses of Tiryali , this author supported Dr Mahavir Gairola for protecting regionalism in Garhwali literature. the readers will find many Garhwali words , which Garhwalis forgotten due to love for Hindi language as the words Rinmoccha, Banjotta etc
As the title Kapali ki Chhamot ( means to take water from forehead ) suggests that the poet is unhappy about happening near him. The subject of his poems are related to common men and human beings but the narration is for intellectuals . This is one reasons that he was always sought for intellectual discussion about Garhwali language and literature but the convener seldom called him at Kavi Samelans.
From subject point of , each poem has different subject related to rural Garhwal and humanity. No corner of life in Garhwal is left by Dr Gairola. In simple words, there are sixty one subject narrated in Kapali ki Chhamot' by Dr .Mahavir Prasad Gairola
There is philosophy-spirituality, there is satire, there is flat criticism, there is sadness, there is laughter, there is rage, there is disgust in his poems and above all each poem tells a message directly or indirectly. The poet believes that the poem is not for the enjoying medium for the poet but it should be an instrument for the benifts of the society.
Most of the poems of Dr Gairola in this volume are Gady Shaili (prose oriented ) but are enjoyable.
Famous historian Captain Shur Veer Singh Panwar rightly states that the intellectuals will definitely, enjoy the poems of Dr Gairola . Famous Hindi literature critic Manohar Lal Uniyal 'Shriman' praised Dr Mahavir Gairola for creating such marvelous pieces of poems in Garhwali language and stated that most of poems are having the same standard as the contemporary Hindi poems of eighties . The renowned Garhwali literature historian and critic Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna praised these poems for his philosophical and idealism narration in simplest words.

The contribution of  Dr Mahavir Prasad Gairola in Garhwali, Himalayan literature is for many fields. Dr Gairola wrote novel, stories, essays, published interviews , wrote commentaries , edited magazines, and is sculpture artist too. His Garhwali literature has the forte  is writing in Tiryali dialect and philosophical ending.
  Dr Mahavir Prasad Gairola was born in  Sateshwar muhalla of Tihri town, Tihri  Garhwal Himalaya on 21st April, 1922.  Dr Gairola expired in 2012 in New Tehri.
      After passing B.A from Lahore, Dr Gairola shifted to Allahabad and he passed M.A and LLB from Allahabad University. He got PhD honor from Ruhelkhand University.
    At the age of 82, Mahavir Prasad Gairola got Doctor of Literature (D.Lit.) from Ruhelkhand University on the theme of 'Synthetic Spiritualism as Opposed to Dialectical Materialism'
      Dr Mahavir depended on law practices in Tihri for his livelihood and fulfilling his family needs. Gairola have been a front figure in social activities in Old Tihri for many decades. At present, Dr Gairola  is living in new Tihri . Dr Gairola have been strong supporter of Tihri dam.
Mahavir Prasad writes in  Garhwali , English and Hindi with ease in all three languages.
     Dr Gairola is the first Garhwali prose make who published novel in Garhwali language 'Parvati' in 1981. Parvati has its own importance as for being first novel of Garhwali language.  'Akalwar Ko?' is second novel of Dr M.P . Gairola and fortunately 'Akalwar Ko?' is second published novel of Garhwali language too. Asli Panchaaiat Raj is his third novel in Garhwali
         Kapali ko Chhamote is his poetry collection in Garhwali language. MahavirPrasad  wrote many dramas in Garhwali and staged them too. ' Sabbi Jaga eki Chhween', 'Dudh bitdi rai' are most admired plays of Dr MahavirGairola in Garhwali language.

त गौणी केक सुखी होंदी
पड़दा के अन्न का फाका
अर सैणी केक घर मूं रोंदी।
जु करदो नी मैं यमे पास
त केक कभी करजा  चढ़दो
जख मूं चांदो तखमूं रहंदो
किलै सर्विस का चक्कर मा फंसदो।
जु रहंदो कोरू किसान
त दुनिया एक अलग होंदी
मैं रोज काटदो हरियूं घास
अर भैंसी चार बंधीं होंदी
मैं हौळ लगैक अन्न कमांदो
बणु मा घूमिक गोर चरौंदो
दही जमांदो मट्ठा करदो
अफु भी खांदू , औरु भी खलौंदो
जु रहंदो कोरू किसान
त नेता अई अइक करदा सलाम
बोल्दा छैं किसान , तू छैं महान
त्वेकू प्रणाम , त्वेकू प्रणाम। 

Dr Gairola wrote tens of short stories in Garhwali language and published 'Ramaidi' a short story collection. Dr Gairola supports socialist thinking  but says that communism or socialism cannot establish in India without the aid of Indian spirituality and we may find those philosophical, spiritual touches in the poems, stories and novel of dr Mahavir Gairola.
Dr Mahavir Prasad published many articles if Garhwali language in many regional periodicals.
Dr Gairola also edited 'Naitiki' magazine for many years.
Dr Gairola wrote novel and short stories in English. 'The Learned Fools' and 'The world cycle' are his famous  his English novels and he published poetry collections ' The Cirinlore  ' in Himalaya Times .
Dr Gairola published novels, short stories and poetries in Hindi too.
Dr Mahavir  Gairola have been a prominent figure in Garhwali literature for many decades and got many awards., rewards and appraisals from many social organization and state government.
As Sir Walter Scott , Samuel Lover, Charles Dickens are praised for their initiating and advancing novel writing in English ; Posper Merimee, Theophile Gautier in French; Gabriele D'Annunzio Grazia Deledda' in Italian language;  Leopoldo Alas in Spanish language ; Nathaniel Hawthorne of USA in English language ; Dr MahavirPrasad will be remembered in Garhwali literature for initiating writing Novels.

मेरि जिन्दगी की आस छै ।
मेरि जिन्दगी की सांस ।।
बणि घुघती बसि। जा गौलि मा।
मेरि जिकुडि की तू हिलांस छै।।

तू प्रेम की ह्यूंचुलि कांठी छै ।
तू माया की गैरी घाटी छै। ।।
तू म्यारै मुल्का की माटी छै।
तू तीलू रामी की सुबास छै।।

तू बाला कि सि आंखि छै।
तू ज्वान मन की पांखि छै।।
तू बुढेन्दी दौं की लाठी छै।
तू शरद रितू पैलो। मास छै।।3।

मी खरडू पूसा कि डालि छौं।

मैर बंसला बिवैण्या आलो कबि न कबि ।
तू आस की दिवडी न बुझैई कबि ।।1।

फौंकी तेरी कटे गैंईं ; पात सबि झैडी गैंईं।
खरडू पूस लगि ग्याई ; चखुला सबि उडि गैंईः।।
सूखी डांडि हैरी ह्वैली कबि न कबि ।
तू माया को मौ ल्यार न लौटै अबि ।।2।।

भड॔ग रूडी पोडिग्याई ; खैरियं को लगि ग्याई घाम ।
बांजा कि जैड्यूं को पाणि ; गौलि उबाली आलि फाम।
तिसला लोग दौडि दौडि आला कबि न कबि ।

           अजकाल मि जब बि टीवी खुल्दु त चैनेलुं मा कुछ ना कुछ पकणु रौंद।  समाचार चैनल त सुबेर बिटेन श्याम तक एकी न्यूज तै ब्रेकिंग न्यूज दिखैक दर्शकुं तै पकाणा रौंदन या कुछ स्वार्थ वस न्यूज कुक करणा रौंदन।
         फिर फूड या ट्रैवेल चैनलों मा तो हर समय भोजन की बात हूंद जन बुल्यां टूरिस्ट भोजन भट्ट ह्वावन धौं।
              टीवी चैनलों मा जु भोजन मीन पकद द्याख वै से त इन लगद यी ऐंकर कच्ची भोजन प्रेमी छन।  या कुछ स्यफ त भोज तैं जळाणा इ रौंदन। 
अर फूड या ट्रैवेल चैनलुं से भोजन पकाण नि सीखी सकदु।
           जु आम गढ़वळि हूंद याने जैक जनम गढ़वाळ मा हूंद अर दर्जा आठ तक गढ़वालम शिक्षा दीक्षा हूंदी छे वु अफिक भोजन पकाण सीख जांद छौ अर गर्व की बात च कि हम गढ़वळयूं वास्ता तब बि क्वी फॉर्मल   कुकिंग क्लासेज नि हूंदी छी अर आज बि हम घमंड का साथ बोली सकदां कि हम बगैर सरकारी सहायता का स्येफ बण जाँदा। We are Born Cook.
            कुछ अनौपचारिक पाक शिक्षण व्यवस्था से ही आज बि गढ़वळि पाक कला सीखिक दुनिया का बड़ा बड़ा होटलुं मा स्यफ छन। औपचारिक पाक कला शिक्षण व्यवस्था मा हमारी अपणी सरकार बि ध्यान नि दींदि अर हम यान पर घमंड बि नि करदा कि हम बगैर होटल मैनेजमेंट डिप्लोमा का जापान म रूसी भोजन कुक  करदां।   गढ़वळि हमेशा संतोषी रै तो घमंड नि करदो।
        हमर बकत हमर मां -बैण्यूं -भौजुं कृषि मा व्यस्ततम  समय हूण से हम अफिक पाक कला सीखि जांद था।  पैल पैल झौळ लगाण से पाक कला का श्रीगणेश हूंद छौ फिर झौळ बुजाण मा हम पारंगत हूंदा छा  फिर धीरे धीरे हम बुखण -खाजा उस्याणैं प्रैक्टिस करदा छा  अर तब जैक हम दाळ उस्याणम बि ब्रॉन्ज या गोल्ड मेडलिस्ट ह्वे जांद छा ।  कौणी -झंग्वर - भात पकाण याने ग्रेजुएसन अर रुटि पकाण याने पोस्ट ग्रेजुएसन।  अधिसंख्य ब्वे अपण नौन्याळु  तै पोस्ट ग्रेजुएसन नि करण दींदि छे। 
            फिर हमर गां मा तब जीमण पकाण एक  सामूहिक अर सामाजिक जुमेवारी   समजे जांदी छे तो हम परसाद या भुज्जि चखणो लोभ मा हम सूजी अर भूजि पकाणो पाककला का गूढ़ से गूढ़ विद्या बि सीखी लींदा छा।  चूंकि हम दोयम श्रेणी का बामण छया अर हमर गांवक बहुगुणा हमर दगड़ रैकि प्रोग्रेसिव विचारधारा का ब्राह्मण ह्वे गे छा तो कुकरेती या जखमोला नामक सर्यूळ हम तैं इ ना दुसर गांवक नेग्युं तै बि भात या दाळ  खरोळणो चुपके से इजाजत दे दींदा छा।  इन मा हम दाळ -भात  का पाक शास्त्री बि बण जांद छा।
                बकै पाक शास्त्री बणनम  कुछ कमी  बेसी रै बि गे तो उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्ति का वास्ता ड्याराडूण ,  श्रीनगर   , जहरीखाळ -दुगड्डा जाण से हम एक्सपर्ट कुक बण जांद छा। तब भारत सरकार का दुंळ वळ  लाल पैसा  चलदो छौ याने तब धन की बड़ी कठिनाई हूंद छे तो अधिसंख्य गढ़वळि छात्र स्वपाकी छात्र बि छा।  नोड्यूल , चौ माउ अर पिजा फैशन तब नि छौ तो गढ़वळि छात्र भोजन बणानम पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट ह्वे जांद छौ। मीन बि स्वपाकशाला मा स्वपाकी    हूणो प्रशिक्षण ले।  मि तै पता च कि सवादी , सुपौष्टिक अर काचो भोजन मा क्या अंतर हूंद।
           तब यदि  गढ़वळि दर्जा पांच पास या फेल कौरिक शहर जिना सटग गै  तो वै तैं चील कव्वा जन घात लगैका बैठ्या होटल मालिक ठौ दींद छौ  बड़ा आनंद से। बारा पंदरा सालक  गढ़वळि होटल मा घुस ना कि होटल मालिक    जन  कौवा तै  मर्युं मूस दिखे जावो उनी  खुश ह्वेका होटल मालिक चिल्लांद छौ - नया बुल्ला आ गया , नया बुल्ला आ गया , इसे भांड मँजाने में लगा दो। हाँ आज बि चाहे केरल का मेट्रो होटलक मालिक हो या पंजाब का  पटियालौ होटलक मालिक हो या कलकत्ता का कोलमच्छी ढाबा का मालिक हो वु गढ़वळि से वैकि जात  नि पुछ्द अर ना ही गढ़वळि से रेफरेंस सर्टिफिकेट मांगे जांद।  गढ़वळि खानसामा अर साधु की जात अर प्रमाण पत्र  नि पूछे जांद किलैकि द्वी ईमानदार जि हूंदन।
  होटलम बि भोजन पकाणो कार्य बुल्लाओं (भुला का अपभ्रंश  ) तै इनि नि मिल्दो छौ। पैल पैल भांड घिस्सै , तब फर्श घिस्सै  , फिर मेज सफै  फिर जब बुल्ला होटलम कुछ साल रौणो अलिखित प्रमाण दे द्यावो तो होटल मालिक वे तै सब्जी कटण , चौंळ धूण पर लगै दींद छौ अर फिर कुछ सालों बाद ही भोजन बणानो परमिसन दींद छौ।

   आज तो सब्युं तै भोजन पाककला सिखण आवश्यक च।  ब्योलीन नौकरी करणी  च ,  ब्यौ बाद ब्वे -बाबुं से  बिगळणी  च त पुरुष  तैं बि पाकशास्त्री हूण आवश्यक च।  DIG संस्कृति मा  पुरुष तै पाककला प्रवीण हूण जरूरी च।  DIG माने डबल इनकम ग्रुप याने द्वी झण नौकरी  वळ।  अब यि त हरीश जुयाल इ बथाल कि DIG हूण पर पुरुष  तै पाककला  का ज्ञान कथगा आवश्यक च।
            खैर पर मेरी उमर  वळु एक समस्या अबि बि च।  तै बखत पुरुष कथगा बि बड़ो पाकाचार्य हो किलै नि  ह्वावो पुरुष  यदि चुल्लुम बैठो ना तो समाज वै तै चुल्लखचुर्या नाम दे दींद छौ।  तब पुरुष तै चोर नाम हूण मंजूर छौ पर चुलखचुर्या नाम असह्य छौ।  अपणी पुराणी प्रेमिकाओं  कसम मि झूठ नी बुलणु छौं।  आज बि मी तै मेरी मां किचन मा चा बणान देखी द्या तो भड़ भड़भड़ाट शुरू कौरी दींदि अर बुल्दी -" नाती  नतणा वळ ह्वे गे अर किचन मा खड़ु रैंदु।"

                     Administration of G. W. Traill in Garhwal and Kumaon

         East India Company appointed G .W. Traill as Assistant Commissioner of Kumaon commissioner on 8th July 1815. However, G .W. Traill reached to Almora on 22 August 1815. Almora was head quarter of Garhwal and Kumaon.
              Kumaon Commissioner Edward Gardner was busy in political administration. Gardner was busy in treaty with Nepal.  Therefore, G .W. Traill look after the land administration and creating other departments in Kumaon commissionery.    After completing the land administration in Kumaon, British government sent him adjacent region of Garhwal for land administration.  His responsibility was land administration and revenue collection system.
      Edward Gardner was sent to Nepal as Resident. Therefore, G .W. Traill had to act as Acting Commissioner of Kumaon Division. British government promoted G .W. Traill as commissioner on 1st April 1817. His salary was Rs 15000/-per month (Atkinson).
         As per Atkinson, Gardner was said to be in charge of Kumaon division in 1815. Gardner appointed an Indian officer for getting the reality of Garhwal. Gardner set responsibility for the officer to get 'Arji' from Kamin and Sayana (Jamindar, village chieftains or area chieftains) of Garhwal.  Gardner offered the responsibility to G .W. Traill for Revenue in October 1815. G .W. Traill was advised for keeping same tax as in Gorkha rule in 1814 and the chieftains of 1814 were retained for collecting revenue.  As per Fraser instruction the initiation of administration and revenue system was started in Garhwal. Company secretary Johan Adam wrote a letter on 27th January 1816 to Edward Gardner for making G .W. Traill responsible for land revenue and police administration  from Kumaon and Garhwal regions.

              Late Durga Prasad Ghildiyal is one of the prominent signatures in Garhwali language story field.      Durga Prasad Ghildiyal accelerated the speed of modern Garhwali story literature founded by Sada Nand Kukreti in 1913 by publishing first ever modern story in Garhwali language. Durga Prasad Ghildiyal have been attached to Garhwali literature movement of eighties and nineties.
            Durga Prasad Ghildiyal was born on 6th November, 1923 in a Himalayan village Pandalyu of Katalsyun, Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand. Durga Prasad Ghildiyal expired on 25th July, 2001 in Delhi
      After High Schooling; he joined the government service and retired from there in Delhi in 1981.
H e published three collections of Garhwali language story
1- Gari (1981 and awared by Teeka ram gaur Puruskar)
2- Mwari was published in 1986
3- Bwari published in 1987
            Durga Prasad Ghildiyal is also credited for writing novel in Garhwali language. His novel 'Uchyano' was published by Surya Prakashan Delhi
Durga Prasad Ghildiyal wrote more than seventy five stories. The readers will find real incidents of Garhwal in each story of Ghildiyal. The stories of Ghildiyal illustrated the life of Garhwali village and its inhabitants.
              Durga Prasad Ghildiyal is the master of showing the pains, happiness, enthusiasm, hard works, and sacrifice of Garhwali women. Ghildiyal also shows different psychology of different human beings at different time and places. Literature creators as Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna, Prem Lal Bhatt, Madan Duklan, Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal , Lalit Keshwan praised Durga Prasad Ghildiyal for his story narration style, using perfect symbolic Garhwali words, showing true picture of Garhwal , uses of proverbs, characterization of characters, hooking the reader's interest in story. Editor of Hilans Arjun Singh Gusain used to appreciate the works of Ghildiyal in story writing field.
          Durga Prasad Ghildiyal was also in editorial board of Gadmyateki Ganga and was active members of many Garhwali literature organizations of Delhi

          Durga Prasad Ghildiyal also created a few Garhwali poems and published in magazines and news papers. His poems are again related to rural Garhwal and emotional. His language is always simple in poems. Phrases of Ghildiyal are commonly used in Garhwal.

पर याँन नि ढकेंदी म्यरि नाँग काँग
नि पौंछदि यख त्यरा गित्तु की भौण

जु होन्दा सुमन सरीखा लाल मैं मू
मिन नि फैलौणा छा हाथ हाथ त्वेमू।
यख आग भभरौंद , लगदन बडूळी 
मी दिन भूक नी रात सेणी
त्यरो याद कन्नो , उन्नि सि दिखेंद
सियां भुला की जसि भुक्की पेणी।
