अपना हूँ मैं
कच्चे थे पर कितने सच्चे थे
वो मिटटी के घरोंदे कितने अच्छे थे
सदा अपना मिल जाता था वंहा
क्या हसीन था वो छूटा मेरा जँहा
खिलती रहती थी वंहा हंसी मेरी
बिखरी मिलती थी मुझे खुशी मेरी
वो बचपन मुझे बहुत याद आता है
उसके और करीब वो मुझे ले जाता है
सपनों में ही अब वो रोज मिलता है
भूल ना जाना अपना हूँ मैं ये कहता है

Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Akela': Strong Supporter of Regional Dialects in Garhwali Literature

       Critics as Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna (1981) criticizes Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Akela' for his weakness of language in his poems but this author fully supports 'Akela' for his using regional dialects of upper Garhwal "Nagpurya' in his poems . This author always, cautions the intellectuals prose writers as Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna and Bhagwati Nautiyal that by avoiding regionalism in Garhwali literature creation the creative are inclining towards Hindi. This author states that by using regional dialects, the writers can protect purity of Garhwali language.
Bhagwan Singh 'Akela' is famous for his Geet in Garhwali poems. Those Garhwali Geet are melodious and are very attractive in listening them alone and in chorus too.
        Bhawan Singh Rawat 'Akela' was born in a Himalayan village Siwai , Nagpur Pargana of Chamoli Garhwal, Uttarakhand on 2nd December, 1932.
        Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Aklea' joined Shipping Corporation of India Mumbai and retired from there. Bhagwan Singh 'Akela ' was one of the famous signatures in Garhwali cultural programs for many decades in Mumbai. Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Akela' created Geet and used sing them in Garhwali cultural programs of Mumbai and once, he was having thousands of fans in Mumbai . His Geet are always melodious and remind the audience the pain, joy, struggle, delights of rural Garhwali society before independence. Many his fans as Geeta Ram Bhatt praises Bhagwan Sing for his attracting capability to audience by his wording of Geet and is tone in singing them.
       Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Akela ' published two Garhwali poetry collection books ' 'Samun' and 'Maya Meludi' .
        The poetries of Bhagwan Singh Rawat are unique in the sense that each poem has strong touch and aroma of Chamoli Garhwal. The readers can feel the pain of separation, the true geographical scenes of Garhwal, love, pathos in the poems of Bhagwan Singh. Bhagwan Singh used vividly the figure of speech, metaphors, symbols, imagery, popular proverbs and sayings of Chamoli Garhwal in his poems.
An example of his poem Ganga Mai --
Shivji ki jata chhodi bagdi tu ai
Himvanti gunvanti meri ganga mai
Aundi meri ganga vakh biten jakh dev-sthan
Jakh baramasa kaunla phool phulldan
Bhagwan Singh Rawat 'Akela' is also famous for his poem about praising the landscape and people of Uttarakhand as the following poem –

  लठग्युं छ बौडा खल्याण मा,
हबरि देखणु छ ढंग डौळ,
बल सैडि कुटम्बदारी का,
खेती पाती फर ध्यान निछ,
लगिं छ नया जमाना की बौळ,
भला लगणा छन सब्यौं तैं,
नया जमाना का रंग अर थौळ.

ब्वारी घास काटण कू,
नि छन मन सी राजि,
मोबाइल धरयां छन हाथ मा,
बणि छन बिल्कुल निकाजि.

नौना नि छन लगौणा मन,
खेती पाती अर धाण मा,
खुश छन गौं छोड़िक दूर,
घौर सी प्रदेश जाण मा.

ढंग डौळ देखिक परिवार का,
बौडा खल्याण मा पड़युं "लमतम",
सोचणु अपणा मन मा ख्वैक,
क्या होलु परमात्मा कसम.

कख होली मेरी डांडी व कांठी , कख कुरेड़ी सौण की,
रुम झुम बरखा छुम छुम छोया , मैं कू सूझीं छह सेण की।
हालड़ का बीच छानी होली , भैंस बियाईं सौण की ,
दूध तपाला , खील  पकीगे ,  गोंदकी खाला  नौंण की।
बळदूँ की घांडी , घस्यारियों का गीत आग  लगौंदा ज्यू की ,
कखड़ी व गुदड़ी पाकीगे होली , बग्वाळ पड़ली छोरुं की।
मुंगरी की लुंग अज्युं नी चाखी , खुद लगीं च दादी की।
घ्वीड़ मिरगूं तैं चांठ पियारो , मैकू प्यारो गढ़वाळ छ,
डांड्यों का दर्शन होई जौन , लालसा यो ही मन मा छ।
चिट्ठी न पतरी कै पापी का भी , याद नी होली सुपिन मा,
मुखड़ी देखीक टुकड़ी होंदी प्यार नि होलू कैका दिल मा।

            Ummed Singh published a few Garhwali poems in various regional publications. His poems are having nature of Garhwal, the social structure and day today workings of the people of Garhwal. Ummed Singh was born in 1932 in Pauri Garhwal. Ummed Singh Negi uses common phrases of Garhwali. The language is simple and poetic flow is fast .

Shivanand Pandey Premesh': Garhwali poet of Spirituality and Images

   Shivanand Pandey 'Premesh' is famous for his inspiring, emotional, spiritual, poetries in Garhwali and at the same time showing the reality of political and bureaucratic corruptions at low level in the rural Garhwal.
          Shivanand Pandy was born in 1933 in a Himalayan village Toranu , Khas Patti of Tihri Garhwal. Since, Shivanand belongs to the area of Chandrabadani temple, Shivanand is influences by spiritual importance of Chandravadani and the influence is visible in his poems.
       Shivanand Pandey published two collections of Garhwali language poems - 'Ujjyali' and 'Chandravadani Chalisa'.
          In 'Ujjyali, most of the poems of Shivanand are related to subjects of rural Garhwal and most of the poems are inspirational ones, as:
Gadhwali gaurav tab dainu holu
Jab bhala sahitya ka srijan holu
                            The poems of Sivanand Pandey as 'Chal beta ghar  jaula' are also inspirational . Many poems as ' gadhdesi yojana' deal with wrong happenings in Garhwal and he showed the discriminations by planning officers for Garhwal and carrying out more developmental works in the plains than hilly areas :

त्वे माँमु छोड़िक परदेश औलू
दिन रात तेरी याद मा रौलू

तेरी माँकी आंख्यों मा जब आंसू आला
रोई रोइक वींका कंठ सूखी जाला
थुनमुन थुनमुन तू वींम जैक
तू वींकी आंख्यौं आंगुळी लगैक
भैर की और हाथां दिखैक
बाबा जी आला अब चिजी लेक


ना लो मम्मी ना लो मम्मी तू आन्छु लैक
मी तै भिटै दी तू छाती लैक

जय हिन्द जय उत्तराखंड
आज मैंने खोयी मेरी पहचान है
पहाड़ हूँ मैं स्थिर चुप चाप अपने में खड़ा रहता हूँ
आते हैं जो मेरे पास उन सबको मैं अपना कर लेता हूँ
सुखद अनुभूति हो उन्हें उनके दुःख थोड़े समय हर लेता हूँ
कदम बड़े मेरी तरफ उनके शीश को गर्व से तान देता हूँ
झुकना ना सीखा मैंने अडिग अचल मेरा खुला स्वभाव है
शांति का मार्ग ही मेरा प्रशस्त और नित बहता विशवास है
नदियों ने सीखा बहना मुझसे हवाओं का तोड़ा मैंने अहंकार है
मेरा ना कोई तह यंहा पर समंदर का भी तो किनारा साथ है
मीलों यंहा ख़ामोशी छाई आत्मा को परमात्मा का मिला ज्ञान है
अपने ही और अपनों के कारण ही आज मैंने खोयी मेरी पहचान है

Dr Govind Chatak: The Father of Researches on Garhwali Folk Literature

Critical and Chronological History of Modern Garhwali (Asian) Poetry –-59

  Garhwali folk songs cannot be described in literature without the reference of Dr Govind Chatak. Chatak initiated Garhwali Folk Songs collection; he analyzed Garhwali Folk Songs and classified Garhwali folk Songs. Chatak is called father of researches on Garhwali folk literature specially Garhwali Folk Songs
     The real name of Govind Chatak is Govind Singh Kandari. He was born on 13th December, 1933 in village Sarasin, Lastu of Tihri Garhwal. His mother's name was Chandra Devi and father's name was Dham Singh Kandari. He completed his primary schooling from Anchharikhut Tihri, Intermediate from Mussorie Dehradun, and Graduation from Allahabad University. He passed M A from Agra University. He got PhD in perusing research on "Garhwali ki Upboli va Uske Lok Geet' from Agra University. He got D.Lit in folk literature.
       He is regarded the father of Garhwali folk literature. After serving All India radio as producer he joined Rajdhani College Delhi as professor of Hindi and retired from there. His contribution in Garhwali folk literature is of manifolds. He collected Garhwali folk songs and classified them more logically than Abodh Bandhu Augean . His book is 'Garhwali lok geet' was published in 1956 from Jugal Kishor and sons Dehradun and Garhwal ki Lok Gathayen (1958) from Mohni Book Stores Dehradun .both books are Mecca of Garhwali Folk Song researches. He classified Garhwali folk Songs into following types: Classification of Folk Songs by Dr Govind Chatak: Dr Shivanand Nautiyal appreciated the initiation of Dr Govind Chatak for his collection , classification and popularizing Garhwal Folk Songs among Garhwalis and non-Garhwali literate intellectuals and regional language experts.
     Dr Chatak also collected the Folk stories of Garhwal and published the book, which later on was also re-published in series, by weekly Garhjagar from Dehradun.
Govind Chatak is also remembered for his researches on the philological aspects of Garhwali language and he scientifically proved that Garhwali is derived from Shaurseni of Rajasthan. His book 'Madhya Pahari Ki Bhashik Parampara Aur Hindi'is a famous reference book for linguistic science researches.
His books on Garhwali folk literature are-
1-Garhwali Lok Kathayen (1956)
2-Garhwali Lok Git Vividha (1955, 2000)
3-Garhwali Lok geet-ek Sanskritik Adhyayan
4-Uttarakhand ki Lok Kathayen
6- Akash pani de Pani
7- Bhartiya Lok Sanskriti ka Sandarbh- Madhya Himalaya
In Garhwali prose, his essays are marvelous and timeless

Dr Chatak is not only a famous name in Garhwali Folk literature world but he is a legendary name in critics of Hindi drama and he also wrote many dramas in Hindi as:
1-Kekade
2-Andheri Ratka safar
3-Dur Ka Akas
4-Bansuri Bajati Rahi: Though the base of story is of folk story of Gujrat
but Govind Chatak used Garhwali villages, tone, symbols, imagery and folks songs of Garhwal in this drama. The fist staging of play of this drama was held in Uttarkashi
His critics on Hindi drama are appraised in Hindi literature world and his following work is acclaimed as intellectual critics of Hindi drama:
1-Prasad ke Natak : Swarup aur Rachana
2-Prasad ke Natak : sarjanatmak Sanrachna aur Bhashik Chetna
3-Adhunik Hindi Natak Ka Masiha: Mohan rakesh
4-Natakar jagdish Chandra Mathur
5-Natya Bhasha
6- Adhunik Natak: Bhashik aur Sanvedeey Snrachan
And other nine books
His works is translated in many languages
He received many appreciations from government institutions and social organizations. The following awards are enough to show his contribution for Garhwali Folk literature and Hindi literature as well:
1- Dr Peetamber datt barthwal puruskar
2-Jai shri samman
3-Bhartendu Puruskar
4-Ram Naresh Tripathi Puruskar
                  Govind Chatak s a Garhwali Poet
    Dr Chatak was very talented poet and lyric too. Chatak published his poems in many magazines and poetry collections. Symbolism and love was his forte.

आज अंख्यों मा रूप कैको जोन्याळी सी छाये ,
फेर बाडळी बणीक कुई आज मैं मू -सी आये।
ऐंन आँसुन भीजीं कैकी द्वी आंखी वो गीली ,
फ्यूंळी की पाँखुड़ी सी , मुखड़ी स्या कैकी पीली।
फफरांदा होंठ ऐन वो लाज से जना झुक्यां ,
प्यार का वो बोल ऐन मुख मा ही रुक्यां।
सुखी गाड -सी मेरी जळी जिकुड़ी ऐंच ,
सौंण की रोंदेड़ कुयेड़ी या कैन बुलाये ?
डूबी गैन अँध्यारा मा डांडी-काँठी भरेण लैगे उदासी ,
मेरी ही तरौं लटकिगे पीठ फेरीक सूरज सो प्रवासी।
फूलूं की पंखुड्यों की सेज मा देख बथौं यो ओंगण लैगे ,
निराशेक कैकी जाग मा थकीक विचारी जोन स्यैगे।
सुपिनों मा खोयेगी जिकुड़ी स्यां स्यां कर्दी गाड की ,
अगास की अंग्वाळ मा सर्किगे धरती ब्यौली सी लाड की।
जिंदगी छळेन्दी औणी छ जनो ओडार को -सी घाम।,
मैं कू तेरी याद लीक कनी या अँध्यारी रात आये।

He expired in June 2007 leaving his four married children
Dr Govind Chatak will always be remembered as father of researches on Garhwali folk songs, folklore and folk stories and Hindi literature will never forget his innovative contribution for creating marvelous dramas and writing intellectual, logical commentary on Hindi dramas

जब बिटि
मेरा गौं को
एक आदिम मंत्री बणे
तब बिटि
मेरो गौं
गौं नि रैगे
विधानसभा ह्वेगे।
नौ इलै नि ल्हेणु छौं
किलैकि तुम वै तैं जणदा छां
जै तुम समजणा छां
वो ह्वे बि सकद।
पर जब बिटि मेरु गौं को
एक आदिम मंत्री बणे
तब बिटि मेरो गौं , गौं नि रैगे 
जै काम तै विधानसभा मा
जगा -जगौं का करदन
वे काम तैं मेरा गां मा
इक्या जगा का कन्ना छन
खुट्टा परौं हथ लेकि
पूरा का पूरा सत्र चलौणा छन
