           Kanhaiya Lal Dandriyal had been a great poet of Garhwali poetry world. The critics and readers call Dandriyal as 'Maha Kavi" and there is no doubt about his great craftsmanship, choosing subjects, using simple but effective words for narrating complex subject and on top of it doing experiments for developing Garhwali verses. Bagi Uppan ki Ladai is long poetry ( Khand Kavy ) andthis poetry collection in Garhwali language is the best example of symbolic poetry apart from imagery poems narrating images of Garhwal .
           With reference to Bagi Uppan ki Ladai , Dr Maju Dhoundiyal a Hindi literature critics, Madan Duklan (editor of Hamari chitthi), Puran Pant Pathik in personal conversation with this writer say that Kanhaiya  Lal Dandriyal has same position in Garhwali literature for using symbols of animals to describe the present society as the critics appreciate William Blake, Alfred Jerry , Antoni Lange, Albert Aurier, Albert Giraud, Albert Mockel, Albert Samain, Alexander Block, Andrie Bely, Arthur Rimbaud, Auguste Villiers de I.Adam, Caspar David Friedrich, Charles Baudelaire, Dante Gabriel, Isidore Lautreamont, Dimcho Debelyanov, Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Eldgar Allan Poe, Emile Nelligan, Emile Verhaeren, Francis V Griffin, Fyodor Sologub, George Bacovia , George Rodebach, Gustavo , Innokenty gustave Flaubert , Annesky, Kahn, Henride Regneir, Jean Moreas, Joa da Cruz Sousa, Josip M Aleksandroy, Jurgis Baltrusaitis, Jules Laforgue, Konstantin Bafmont, Maurice Maeterlinck, Mateiu Caragiale, Maxmilian Voloshin, Mikaloius K Ciurlionis , Otokar Brezina, Paul Adam, Paul Fort, Paul Valery , Paul Verlaine, Rachilde, Remy de Gourmont, Stanislaw K Brzozowski, Stephane Mallarme, Stuart Merril, Tendeusz micinski , Valery Bryusov, Vyacheslay Ivanov, Zinaidia Gippius for their creating symbolic verses or literature..
     Dr Nagendra Dhyani, a learned Garhwali literature critics of Garhwali literature states that Kanhya Lal Dandriyal uses animals in his long poetry successfully as Vishnu Sharma uses animals in the stories of Sanskrit classic Panchtantra .
      The story of Bagi Uppan ki Ladia is chivalry story and the plot is of Goath (when the farmers take their domestic animals in the field from May to October and look after their in the field for so many months) . There is very deep friendship among animals as bulls, buffalos, rams, he goats, goats, sheep etc. An insect Uppan (which is a medium of plague bacteria too) attacks to the flocks of domestic animals. The mosquitoes, bugs, and many other harmful insects are with Uppan but take part in attack on later stage of the story . , The brave and strong buffalo (Bagi) takes the charge of his army to defend the animals of Goath and bull is always the advisor. There is ups and downs in tha fight between buffalo with other animals and Uppan . However, after much bloody struggle, the domestic animals win the battle. After winning the battle, the fighters were thrown out of the kingdom and the corrupted culprits, evilly animals take the charge of symbolic kingdom. Even the lion asks separate nation "Sheristhan".
In between , the poet describes many real happenings of the contemporary society.
In fact, with the aid of animals, the great poet of all languages, Kanhaiya  Lal Dandriyal narrates the story of either Freedom Movement and thereafter the worsening situation in India or struggle of Uttarakhand Movement and then worsening situation after becoming separate state Uttarakhand that who struggled for the state could not get the honour but politicians as Narayan Datt Tiwariand others, who never supported the movement, got all the positions in separate Uttarakhand .
          One of the greatest poets of the world language Dandriyal could narrate the story in symbolic way and he successfully create all raptures -love, bravery, pathos, laughter, smile, satire , horror, anger, abhorrence, peace, spiritual and philosophical awareness apart from every human emotions.
           There are twenty four parts in this long poem (Khand Kavy) and each part has many chapters. There are 367 chapters in this Khand Kavy - Bagi Uppan ki Ladai. All poems are Chaupaya and in the style of Bravery style (veer Rasiy Chhand) as found in Allha Uddal poetry.
                  There is another poet Jai Pal Singh Rawat 'Chhipadu dada' (the disciple of Dandriyal) in Garhwali language who creates symbolic poems with the aid of animals but he never created long poetry as Kanhya Lal could create .
                The symbols are easily under stable for intellectual Garhwalis and every body will appreciate the wording construction, Garhwali words of past, images of Garhwal and rural Garhwali society andthe total realism of this long poetry of late Dandriyal. Once, the intelligent reader starts reading first poem the reader can not leave reading till he finishes the whole poetry. There is magnetism in the poems of Kanhaiya  lal Dandriyal.
The long poetry Bagi Uppan ki Ladai is the proof the reason behind calling Kanhaiya  Lal Dandriyal the Mahakavi (Great Poet) of not only Garhwali language but all languages of this earth.

Nitya Nand Maithani: A Garhwali Poet, Dramatist and easy writer

    Nityanand Maithani is a prominent figure in Garhwali literature for his contribution in Radio plays, Radio essays, dramas, translations. Apart from writing novel in Garhwali, Nityanand Maithani wrote poetries in Garhwali language too. His poetries deal with different subjects related to rural Garhwal and emigrant Garhwalis scattered across India. Nityanand Maithani is famous for avoiding Hindi words in his Garhwali language poetries and he got appreciation for his describing nature, season, and day to day life of Garhwal in his poetries.

Nityanand Maithani was born on 10th November, 1934 in Shrinagar, Pauri Garhwal; Uttarakhand. His inclination towards music brought him to All India radio and he served in various centers of All India Radio. His transfer to Naziabad center of All India Radio became blessing for Garhwali language. Nityanand Maithani started many programs in Garhwali language from All India Radio Nazibabad relay centre.
     Nityanand Maithani wrote tens of poems in Garhwali. Latu Gunduru, Ramdei, Ko chu Bal Va', Mayedi aj Des Vikral are his famous and well heard Garhwali language poems. Using metaphors, memoir, pure Garhwali words, describing the contemporary life style of Garhwal and comparing with the past, personification of animals and plants are some specific specialty of Maithani. The poems are melodious and seemed to be not written by an intellectual but by a common man. Nityanand Maithani is popular poet of Kavi Sammelan too because of his simple wordings, perfect and understandable figure of speech, common symbols and imagery wordings in his poems.
         His poetry collection 'Ramdei' is appreciated by critics and readers as well.

  छोट्या मा देखि छौ त्वै रामदे
अब नि छै कख छै बता हे रामदे।
धोती थेगळया चिर्रीं आंगड़ी टूटीं हंसुळी
थेंचीं बुजणी खोंसी मोसी छै रामदे।
कैरी आँखि तिरछा   घुंडा बाळ फुबत्यां
बर्ड बरड़ करो लबरा जनी छै रामदे।
छतकोट का वे पौड़ मा पड़ीं रौ
कुछ न कुछ सुणावो रामदे।
वींन गाये तीलाधारु बम सरीला
तब चिड़ावन छोरा त्वे तैं रामदे।
सिन्नगर से पौड़ी जांदू उंद औंदू
क्वी न देखु पर तु देखि रामदे।
ठुल्ला छवाळा नौना बाळा हम क्य जाणां
तब तु छै अस्सी का धोरा रामदे।
हम गयाँ संगता रिट्या कख कख घुम्यां
तू पड़ीं रै डाळा निस्सा रामदे।
क्वी बि दे द्यो नी बि द्यो क्वी बात नी
कुछ नि छै पर छै मयाळदु रामदे
बरसूँ पैथर जब गयों वख खुद्यूं मैं
तब नि पाये हाय से गए रामदे।
याद औंद थोळळी गिच्ची काठगी गौळी
ओड्यार मा बी भौण भरद्यो रामदे।
कमर झुकड़ी लाथो टेकू सुट्ट ट सुट्ट
उंद आवो उब्ब जावो रामदे।
आज सब सुख मा दुखी च नित्यानंद
तू नि पाये कुछ नि पाये रामदे

        Sher Singh ' Garhdeshi' published hundred of Garhwali poems in regional periodicals. Sher Singh  Garhdeshi is known for his poetries about relationship between males and females of rural Garhwal, the changes happening in Garhwal and required changes in Garhwal, unemployment, migration from Garhwal and its pain for all . His language is simple and delighting too. Creation of Pathos in poems is specialty of  Garhdeshi.
    Sher Singh was born on 31st December, 1934 in a Himalayan village Shrikot, Katalsyun of Pauri Garhwal , Himalaya .
      After High Schooling, Sher Singh became electro-technician and made this profession as earning source for his family.
     Sher Singh  Garhdeshi published hundred of poems in Garhwali language in various regional periodicals.
           The poems of Sher Singh deal with various subjects related to the life in rural Garhwal and emigrant Garhwalis. As a poet, Sher Singh  Garhdeshi is successful in portraying -the life in rural Garhwal, the flora and fauna of Garhwal, the political and humanly happenings in society, the conflicts, confrontations and love/friendship about the relationship between males and females, the pain of migration from own motherland to foreign places, social evils found in the modern Garhwal, escaping mentality and non-enthusiasm among youth grown because of unemployment and no direction for the future.
    Sher Singh  Garhdeshi created poems on conventional structure and style.  Garhdeshi avoided experimenting with new form and style in his poems.
     Sher Singh  Garhdeshi used common symbols and imagery to create impact on the readers and create affectivity in his poems. The figure of speech used by Sher Singh makes his poems delightful. Many times, Sher Singh sends direct messages to the readers what to do and what not to do.
Sher Singh  Garhdeshi wrote plays in Garhwali language too. Critics appreciate his three plays - Panch Parmeshwar, Akhar and Chhuwachhut . The plays of Sher Singh are written for offering messages directly and not as hidden agenda of a the playwright. Due to agenda of offering direct messages to the audience, the dialogues and the effect of plas are as if a teacher is preaching to his students.
The language and words of Sher Singh are pure Garhwali and he successfully avoided Hindi words as much as possible both in poems and plays too.

पहाड़s खातिर ईमानदार हो न हो
पर चरित्र सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
पहाड़ी नांगा -तिसाला भूखा मरु त मरु
पर बथौं पाणी सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
चंट हो, चालाक हो , करमठ हो , चुप्पा हो
पर नौकर सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
पहाडै पिड़ा पहाड़ाs गीत भला लगु ना लगु
पर संगीत  सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
जंगल -बगीचा साला साल होणा छन उजाड़
पर फल -फूल सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
डोखरा -पुंगड़ा बेचि कौलोनी बसौणा छन
पर , मौळयार हर्याळी सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
पहाडै नौकरी , ठेकेदारी , व्यापार , सब्बि ठीक च
पर , तरास क्वी नि   चांदा पहाड़ जनो। 
चोरी , घूस , बेमानी को मलाल जरूर छ
पर , रुप्यों कु ढेरसब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।
ठीक छ पहाडैs हर्याळि , बसन्त , बथौं पाणि
पर , जीवन  सब्बि चांदा पहाड़ जनो।

घिमंडु की हुड़की कड़कीगे मरदो
बल्लू की  डौरी भड़कीगे मरदो   
शूर शार्दूल ऐ गैने मरदो।

यूँ माई का लालोंन मरदो
उख धरती लाल करी आण मरदो
कन कै जि आण हत्यारौंन मरदो
गंगा का ए छाल कत्यूरौंन मरदो

आंधी तूफ़ान सी उड़ि गैने  मरदो

Vimal Sahityaratna: A poet famous for Chivalry Poems

          B.S Kandari alias Vimal Sahityaratna got fame in Garhwali literature for his epic on famous brave lady of Garhwal Teelu Rauteli.  Vimal created chivalry rapture in Telu Rauteli epic and is liked by readers. Critics as Madan Duklan appreciated his using figure of speeches in his poetries. His Kafal' poetry collection and other epic are still unpublished.
  Vima was born in 1935 in village Jinora, Pokhara, Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand.

ओ तीलू को झंडा फहरैगे मरदो
रण भेरी मारू बाजीगे मरदो
ढोल दमौऊं गाजीगे मरदो। 

घिमंडु की हुड़की कड़कीगे मरदो
बल्लू की  डौरी भड़कीगे मरदो   
शूर शार्दूल ऐ गैने मरदो।

यूँ माई का लालोंन मरदो
उख धरती लाल करी आण मरदो
कन कै जि आण हत्यारौंन मरदो
गंगा का ए छाल कत्यूरौंन मरदो

आंधी तूफ़ान सी उड़ि गैने  मरदो
क्रुद्ध खाडू सी भिड़ि गैने  मरदो
सिरड्या जत्या सी अड़ि गैने  मरदो
नरसिंग शार्दूल बिख़िड़ि गैने मरदो।

Dr Partha Sarthi Dabral: a Garhwali poet of Satirical, Realistic style

Partha Sarthi Dabral is famous Hindi story teller and a poet. However, Partha Sarthi contributed to the Garhwali literature too. He has published a collection of stories and a collection of Garhwali poetries. The readers will definitely appreciate Partha Sarthi Dabral for his sharp satire, spirituality, philosophical mystery, agility in his stories and poems. His poems are in modern form and style and with varied forms.
               Partha Sarthi Dabral belongs to the village Timli Dabralsyun, Salan Pauri Garhwal, which has been famous for having Sanskrit college and nearby villagers tell that the domestic animals and pets speak in Sanskrit of Timli village. Vani Vilas Dabral father of Dr Partha Sarthi Dabral, was the famous Vyas of the region.
     Partha Sarthi Dabral was born on 25th February 1935. He got Ph D in 'Daxin Purva Asia ke Abhilekhon ka Sahityik Mulyankan' . Dr Dbaral was professor Hindi in PG College of Rishikesh, Himalaya. A couple of years back, Dr Partha Sarthi Dabral expired in Rishikesh in 2001
    Partha Sarthi published a Garhwali poetry collection book-Udyau and story collection book by name - Dhaskal.
  Readers remember Dr Dabral for mixing well the spirituality, realism with satirical pattern .
   Whether, poems or stories, Parth Sarthi is on top for creating sophisticated satire on the system, unwanted  behaviors, ridiculous customs. There will always, a philosophical mystic in his creation. Partha Sarthi had done experiments in creating Garhwali poetries in terms of form and style of Garhwali poetries. Making Garhwali poems more modern was the motto of Partha Sarthi. The readers easily realize his best uses of symbols, proverbs, conventional criticizing words of Garhwali, easy flow in narration in the poems and stories of Partha Sarthi Dabral. No doubt, Dr. Dabral created literature of intellectual values but could attract common man too:

                Apan pran ni jhurai
Abbi abbi at pungad buyun chh
Par men tain ragrya huyun chh

फ्यफना अळगै अळ गै की
गांधी चौक की दांदण माँ
खड़ु ह्वे की
मीन राष्ट्रीय झंडा को डोर
लौंफ्याण चाई।
पर झंडा की डोर
लौंंफ्याँण मा नि   आई।
कथगा कोशिस करे
तकणे तकणे को मोरी ग्यों
अस्यो ऐगे ,
पर झंडा की डोर
जखा कि तक्खि रैगे
झंडा मुक्त ह्वेकी ,
आकाश मा फफराणु छयो
मीन तिरंगा कु बोले
"चुचा मितै भी अपणी
डोर पकड़णी दे !
जनता माँ मितै भी
नेतौं की तरौं
अकड़ण दे। "
झंडा आकाश माँ
खित खितै की
हँसे अर बोले -
" तू क्य फफरैलो
मितै रे !
सन्नपति माँ सि
क्या बोलणु छे रै !
मुर्ख तू स्वछंद छै
स्वतंत्र नी छै !
स्वछँदता देखिकी
मी बितकुदो छौं
एक बार फिर मितै फफरैकी देख धौं
तू निक्कमू अर बुरु छै
तू निगुरु छै
गाड जैकी तुतै गाड नि अड़ाए
भ्याळ जैकी तुतै भ्याळ नि पढ़ाए
अपणी समस्यौं की फंची
तू मुंड माँ धरीक
कमर तै हिंगोड़ सी मोड़िक
तू क्वकड़ी क्वकड़ी चलणु छै !
त्वेन आकाश को विस्तार
कख देखि रे !
तब तेरु क्य काम मेर धोरा
तू मितै नि लौन्फ़े
सकदी रे छोरा।
तू दुसरु का वास्तs
भगवान क रच्यूं छै !
पर आज तू अफुकुणी ही
बच्युं छै !
इन बच्यूं से तs नि बच्यूं ठीक ,
तू ऐ तs सै मेरs नजदीक !
हे ग्वबडू बुकाण वाळो
मै तैं नि पै सकदो
तेरो छैलो
तू मितैं क्या लौंफ़ेलो !
इन्नो बचिकी क्या करिलो रे !
मौत देखीक कब तक डरीलो रे !
छोरा !
जै दिन तक मौत खुद नि मरदी !
वै दिन तक क्वी बच्यूं नी।
जै दिन मरघट ही मर जालो
वैदिन मनखी अमर ह्वै जालो !
पर ,
यु मरघट मरण वाळ  नी
मरलो भी त
सब्बुं  तैं मारिकी मरला
फिर
क्या पड़्यूं छै
सिल्ली ओबरी
......
तू क्या लौंफेलो  मितैं रे बोनू! 
तू क्या फफरैलो मितैं रे नौनू !

उड़ीक यूं घाम को पंछी
ह्यूं का टोप्या बुग्यालुं सणि
मलासद अजब पणा पंख्युड़ो न
ह्यूं की ट्व्पल़ी सरकी
खित्त हैन्सी जांद तब
कुखड़ी क्वी फूल

आन्द जब औडळ
झिट घड़ी तैं लुकैक
डालोँ कि हैरी चदरी
बांज-बुरांस का डालोँ सणि
पैरे दींद
बुरांस का कूटमुणोऊ वळी

हिसर -किल्मोड़ का बोटों पर
बच्यीं रै जान्दीन जब
घासी क्वी का डाळी

Dharma Nand Uniyal: A Poet of Inspiration and Eulogy
Critical and Chronological History of Modern Garhwali (Asian) Poetry –-65

           Dharma Nand Uniyal was a versatile personality and was a journalist, Hindi prose maker, Hindi poet and social worker of Shrinagar too,
          Dharma Nand Uniyal was born in March 1936 in village Kafna, of Patti -Kadakot of Tihri Garhwal, Himalaya.
          Dharma Nand Uniyal published three collections of Garhwali language poems- 'Alaknanda ki Badh, Hisar Kingodu Kafal, Gadhwal Darshan'. Most of the poems of are created in conventional song forms, are lyrical, delightful. Most of his poems of Uniyal are eulogy for Garhwal region.   
              We may find, geography, historical accounts in Unyal's poems as:
आवा बच्चो झांकी  द्याखो अपणा ये  गढ़वाल कि
तिलक लगावा माटीको तुम भारत का ये भाल को 
Ava baccho jhanki dyakha apna ye Garhwal ki
Tilak lagava mati ko tum bharat ka ye bhal ko
His son brought an audio caste on the above long lyric.
The poems are barometer of love of Dharma Nand Uniyal for his mother land Garhwal. Uniyal uses Hindi words regularly.

लोण तेल का वास्ता , रुपया तुम सौ पावा
कह धर्मा नन्द कविराय , अब ईं अक्ल बंदी
धाणी धंधा छोड़िकी , पैली करा नसबन्दी
