जब मैना सौण को आलो
बरखा होली गदिरा भरेला , स्वीँसाट होलो गाड को।
काळा काळा बादळ आला , रंग मल्हार गाला
अंधेरो होलो चाल चलकेली उज्याळो होलो धार को।
थम थम मोर नाचला , मिंडखा टर्र टर्र बोलाला
पैरा पोड़ला रस्ता टुटला चोट होली रात को।
छाम छम के कोदो गोडेलो , कुयोड़ो होलो रात सि लगली
जबतक कुटी दाथी हाथ मा , नाम नि होलो बाटा को।
घाम की खुद सी लागली , छी छी होली पाणी की
घाम आलो कमाण पोड़ली , रंग अनोखे सौण को।
हरो तरो सभी जगा होलो , छोया फुटला जगु जगु मा
पशु पंछी पाणी पाला , कुयेड़ो फटालो जिकुड़ी को।

Shiva Nand Nautiyal: A Poet, Folk Literature Expert, Writer, Journalist and Politician

A versatile and rarest personality of Indian politics, Shiva Nand Nautiyal was born in 1936 in a remote village Kothala, Patti -Walla Kandarsyun, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand . After completing post graduation Shiva Nand Nautiyal became teacher in Assam. However, because of his ill health he settled in Delhi and started his own weekly news paper Shailodaya.
Dr Shiva Nand Nautiyal is famous for his voice for hill districts of Uttarakhand . His famous wordings after Uttar Pradesh government created a separate department of ministry that is Parvatiya Vikash Mantralay, " Pahadon ko Jhun jhuna Pakada Diya UP government handed over a playing toy for child" made him the hero in the heart of people of Garhwal and Kumaun regions. People of Karnaprayag elected him as independent legislator. He was also minister for higher education in Uttar Pradesh government. He was very honest politician and a politician for common man.
People remember him not as a politician of Uttarakhand but also as a acclaimed scholar, researcher of high order in the field of Folk Literature of Uttarakhand . Without his reference, we cannot think research on Folk Literature of Uttarakhand. He collected folk songs, folklores, folk stories, folk dances, folk musical instruments and folk tones (dhunen) of Uttarakhand and published his researches with logical analysis. He had published the following books on folk literature of Uttarakhand
1- As Garhwali prose writer: Nautiyal wrote many articles in Garhwali. His drama in Garhwali language 'Baun Ka Phool,' stories as Chandra Devi, Pagal, he Jagdish, Daini hwai Ja, seli ya Ag were appreciated very much by Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna for his realism, story telling capability and using pure Garhwali words. His novel "Karj Ko Byau' still is unpublished.

Dr Shiva Nand Nautiyal expired in 2004 AD
Mrs Rachna Balodi is doing research (Ph.D ) on the workd of Dr Shiva Nand Nnautiyal
Dr Shiva Nand Nautiyal had been a researcher for life and he had written fifty two books but yet, all are not published.
Folk literature pundits as Dr Satyendra, dr Jay Chandra Rai, Dr Harish Sharma Dr Prem Narayan Shukla, Dr Vasudev Sharan Agarwal, and sculpture artist Avtar Singh Panwar, Dr Govind Chatak, Dr Nand Kishor Dhoundiyal, Dr Shashi Shekhar Naithani, Bhagwati Charan Nirmohi and many scholars in Garhwali literature appreciated loudly his contribution on folk cultural, art, music of Garhwal and Kumaun .

Dr Umahsnakar 'Satish' is famous for his portraying the village life of Garhwal in his Garhwali language poetries. Umashankar Satish has tremendous sympathy with migrated labor class and this sympathy is visible in his many poems. The poems of Umashankar about sympathy with emigrant Garhwali Indian struggling in plains compel the readers for thinking the discrimination of administration and political juntas for no development in rural Garhwal and these poems create frustration in the mind of readers, which incline to think about need of the autonomy in the hilly areas for self-planning for developing hill districts of Uttarakhand. No doubt, the separate state Uttarakhand movement caught momentum from early nineties but the poems and thinking of poet cum intellectual as Umashankar Satish sow the seeds or need of the separate state for hilly districts of Uttar Pradesh . 'Satish' is also famous for creating emotional poems and imagery poems.
Dr Umashankar 'Satish' was born in 1937 in a Himalayan village of Nagpur area of Chamoli Garhwal. Dr Umashankar was a melodious singer too. He expired in 2011.
Dr Umashankar 'Satish' published hundred of poems in regional periodicals and readers as well critics praised his two Garhwali Poetry Collections --
1-' Raimasi'
2-'Khuded' (1956)
Dr Umashankar created poems for varied subjects; his poems are of different raptures and emotions. He created pathos and frustration oriented poems very well. The poem-

Shows his concern over the worsening conditions of emigrant garhwali labour class in Indian plains who are forced to migrate from Garhwal because of no employment in Garhwal,
Umashankar is expert of portraying a place of area in such a way that the readers feel the total experiencing of the territory concerned.
Satish wrote poems about love and he connects the love communication with the symbolic flora and fauna of Garhwal.

Tri dathuli ka saun , twai se perem myaro
Dr Satish is expert of portraying life in depth and the readers easily imagine the subject.
Dr Umashankar did not hesitate for using the dialects of Nagpur region of Chamoli Garhwal in creating his poetries. Dr Umashankar used conventional style of Garhwali poems in his creating poems and poems are melodious from all angles.

The poems of Veena Pani Joshi in Garhwali language poem collection Pithai Pairalo Buransh are the verses of a deep thinker, super sensitive to the society and environment, and conscious poetess. Today, wherein, many Garhwali poets are busy in creating poems of jokes and attracting audience in Kavisammelan for a while just by wordings without depth in the subjects; Veena Pani Joshi created poems on the real issues and happenings in Garhwal, India and around the world. The poems of Veena Pani Joshi are not limited to Garhwal but they are related to humanity and international panorama. At one pole, Veena Pani tells about conventional culture of her motherland Garhwal that is the beneficial wordings of Rishis or sages and at another side, she narrates the pains, joys of new era too. She is conscious about the changes taking place around us specially the emergence of ugly non-humanitarian culture. She is the poetess of big panorama. The is auspiciousness, beneficial demand in her each poem as she demands from goddess Sarswati -- chitan ko diyo banaulun/sardha ko runwan bati chadhoulu/khairi pahad ki ansdari tel jot jagaulun/daina human.
The poems related to Garhwali women are the verses of of mother's affection and rebellions. The Garhwali women are busy always in hard work and are the axis of Garhwal's economy and social struture. Veena Pani sees Leonard de Vinci's Mona Lisa in their hard works. Veena Pani Joshi reminds the women that there is tender Bugyal (flower beds) on the steep ascending path. Veena appreciates for never ending hard works of Garhwali women and pleas that she requires Kutali and kalam too (hoe and pen). Whole of Garhwal and himalayn area is facing a gigantic problem. There is problem of girl's better education but more than that is after education, women are leaving the agriculture . Speedy migration is biggest dilemma in rural Himalaya and the poetess is worried and says---mund mathi bharu ni cha/thanda chullon kharu nee chh/ktali dathi harchi gen /gauna pata harchi gen
The poetess has immense affection for each part of Himalaya , all flora and fauna. In her poems, there is buransh flower ( Rhododendron flower) fuenli flowers colour the land yellow; there are kingoda, hisar, kakadi, gudadi..... There are animals as sensual, gaureya, ghughtee and there are kafu, hilans, kafal in her poems.
The poetess Veena Pani Joshi is super sensitive about wrong ecological changes by the people in Himalayan region and says if there is no water how come frogs will voice? The readers may feel if there is shradh in village the crows will never come in the village , without bride going to her sasural, kaffu bird will never be messenger. Veena Pani Joshi shows the deep relationship between the Himalayan people and flora/fauna of their area. This aspect of sensitivity is new to poetry.
Veena Pani is also insightful for changing happenings around the glob specially in Himalayan society. She narrates the loosing culture , beneficial culture and she also shows us the new benefits of changes but Veena weeps on wrong changes which are dangerous not only for Himalayan people but perilous for whole of humanity too.
In many verses, Veena Pani Joshi shows her ambiguity and shocks for the new unheard, unseen political perplexities and social turmoil by new changes very effectively and those poems are capable for stirring the readers . Veena Pani is shocked the readers when she shows in her poems that that the responsible authorities for Ganges Cleaning Project search for bottled mineral water near the bank of Ganges.
It is always dangerous to write on contemporary subjects because the creative becomes the enemy of authorities and atrocious commanders of society and religions. However, Veena Pani does not hesitate to pen down the contemporary paradoxes of politics, society and religions. Her writings show that she is super susceptible for the society and environment .
There is rhythm, there is complete poetic form, sensitivity, simplicity to understand the meanings, beauty, harmony in her poems as her father late Chakradhar Bahuguna had in his poems.
Pithai Pairalo Buransh is a remarkable collection of Garhwali language poems and is very excellent sign for Himalayan concern and Himalayan languages literature .

Veena Pani joshi is multitalented Garhwali, Hindi literature creative. She is also deputy editor of Garh Jagar a fortnightly periodical. Veena pani was born in 1937 in Dehradun. Her father late Chakradhar Bahuguna was one of the pillars of Garhwali poetry, Garhwali prose and Garhwali folk literature.
Veena Pani Joshi published hundred of poems in various periodicals. Readers, critics and scholars appreciated poetry collection' Pithai Pairalo Buransh'.
Editor duo Madan Duklan and Girish Sundariyal comment that her poems of Veena Pani Joshi are full of love for child, environment, and nature's images. Joshi created much very sharp satirical poetry in Garhwali too.

जै जग्वाळना भूखा तिसळा
छन हुयां सबि बेळयूं का
कबि त आला इख सुदिन
बौड़ि की घर गौं खोळयूं का।

क्वी त छन खै -खै कि छक
कुछ टरकण्यूं मा बि ज्यूंद छन
बूँद तक गौळा नि गाई
भूखा छन द्वी बेळयूं का।

ये जमाना भारी बात ह्वे
द्वढकि करि बि चैन नी
गेड़बंद कळदार तक
ल्ही गेनी लूछी की गेड़यूं का।

कख रयूं च इख निसाब
निर्दोष पकड़ी छन ग्वड्यां
छन सेयां निरदुन्द इख
हकदार हथकड़ी बेड़्यूं का।

जख बटेंदी छै पीड़ा तकै
उख खबर तक क्वी ल्हेन्दू नी
अब नि लगदन कन्धा कंधौं मा
दिन नि रैनी सहेल्यूं का।

ऐसे तेरी कमी सी खलती रही
ऐसे तेरी कमी सी खलती रही
जैसे ये हवा सी चलती रही
यादों और लम्हों में तू रहती है
ऐसे ही रोज मेरी शाम ढलती है
अभी वो सूरज नहीं डूबा है
अभी भी जरा सी वो शाम बाकी है
सोचों, मैं खुद से ही अब लौट जाऊंगा
ऐसा क्यों ना मेरे साथ होता है
रोज क्यों में नाकाम सा हो जाता हूँ
अपने आप से ही बदनाम हो जाता हूँ
बहाना ढूंढ़ता हूँ मैं इस जमाने से
अपना नाम ही मैं अपने से भूल जाता हूँ
चांद तारों की रात अब जगने लगी
वो भी अब मुझसे देखो कहने लगी
सो जाओ रात हो गयी है काफी
निंदिया मेरी अब क्यों भटकने लगी
ऐसे तेरी कमी सी खलती रही
