(This article is devoted to late Shrimati  Sarju Devi Nautiyal  Bahuguna wife of A B Bahuguna . She had been the pillar as solid support and inspirational source for his becoming Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna --the SUN of Garhwali literature. The author was fortunate to  to get her inspiring company for two days in Mumbai and one day in Delhi)

              To write about Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna is not easy in short. He has written so much in Garhwali that Hemwati Nanadan Bahuguna Garhwal University published a tribute of 128 pages to describe great Garhwali language creative and the author can say that 128 pages are still lacking to detailing him .

         Abodh Bandhu Bahuguna was born on 15th June 1927 in Jhala village of Chalaansyun , Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand . His father's name was Khimanand and mother's name was Bindra Devi Thapliyal Bahuguan . His wife Sarju Devi is the daughter of famous pundit Bhaj Ram Nutiyal of Sumadi . He expired in 2004 in Janakpuri, New Delhi, leaving behind his wife, his son Ardhendhu , three married daughters and grand children
  He got his high school and secondary education from Pauri city- Garhwal, passed graduation and  passed  M.A in two subjects  ( Hindi and Political Science ) from Nagpur University.

2-Shailvani: In this volume, Bahuguna takes us on the rout of history of Garhwali poems and the readers become surprised to know about the detailing by Bahuguna and cannot be without saluting Bahuguna for his industrious research work

           The heirs of Khanduri Brothers –Rama and Dharni presented five 'Sanad' (Government ordering) offered by Nepal court before Trail (1 and 2).
        'Sanad' number 1 and 2 were from Pradyumanshah offered to Rama and Dharni Khanduri for the positions of Daftari.
          Trail wrote in a letter on 2nd April," Garhwal King killed Rama and Dharni for the crime of them having conspiracy with Gurkha court for killing him (Garhwal King) "(2).
          However, the writings of Maularam in 'Ganika –Natak' are clear that the younger brother Parakram Shah Brother of Garhwal King killed Rama and Dharni Khanduri. (1). There were cordial relation between Khanduri brothers and Gurkha court as they were court Daftari. At the initial administration period, Gurkha administrators wrote in Sanad 1," Let Gajadhar and Krishnanand the sons of Rama and Dharni and their brother Harakpati the annual Jagir for Gorkha Rs 6000/- for working as Daftari. Jagir for Rs 6000/- means Jagirdar had to collect more amount from villagers for earning. There was delay in administrating the Nepal court order. In 1810, Nepal court sent a 'Sanad' to Kaji Bahadur Bhandari and Dashrath Khatri where the annual amount was Go.Rs 4000-. After request of Khanduri brothers, in 1812, Bakshi Dashrath Khatri sent a 'Sanad' for new Jagir with his stamp for Go.Rs1500/- annually. It was clearly written in 'Sanad' -2 that  this 'Sanad' is being offered by ordered from Nepal Court.(2)
   When Khanduri brothers reached to the region and inspected the reality and found that the amount declared in 'Sanad' was not possible to collect from villagers of that region. Dashrath Khatri offered an amended 'Sanad' and offered 18 more villages whose tax was estimated for Rs 406.25. That 'Sanad' was also of 1812. There was name of Krishnanad but it was clearly mentioned that the amended 'Sanad' was being offered for correcting the low earning Jagir in old 'Sanad' Apart from those Jagirs of two 'Sanad', from 1814 (?), Khanduri brothers were also getting tax from a few villages of Barasyun region. Dashrath Khatri stopped the Barasyun Jagir for Khanduri brothers in 1813. Later on, the Gurkha commander Sardar Bhairosingh offered a new 'Sanad' (number 5) to Khanduri brothers for getting back Barasyun Jagir. Bhairosingh wrote that he was offering 'Sanad' as per Nepal court order. The order from Nepal Court was ''. He and his soldiers should not interfere in Jagir."
          Trail accepted the Jagir for heirs of Khanduri brothers for Rs 1500/- annually. Trail rejected the 'Sanad' offered by Dashrath Khatri and Bhairon Singh arguing that Nepal court used to provide red stamp on plain paper to their administrators and those papers were for emergency uses for corresponding with neighboring countries.     Trail also wrote to Gardner that Krishna Nand and Harakpati went to Delhi with Frazer from Shrinagar. From Delhi, they returned with King Sudarshan Shah to Tehri. Both were working with Tehri King. Later on, Gajdhar and Krishna Datt reached to Tehri. Krishna Nand was working with him (Trail) in his office as Hindi Navish for monthly salary for Rs 20/- 
  Trail also wrote to Gardner that it was important positions of Daftari. Government should offer Jagir to Daftaris. However, Trail suggested that Government should offer salary equal amount of Jagir and not the Jagir.
    Therefore, Company Government cancelled the 'Sanad' for Khanduris and decided monthly allowances for Rs 32/- per month to Gajadhar, Krishnadatt, Krishnanad and Harakpati. Company secretary Johan Adam sent a letter for accepting the suggestion by Trail on 4th May 1816. In Company regime, the position of Daftari was called 'Kanoongo'. Administration fixed four positions for 'Kanoongo' and Khanduris were offered the positions. British administration appointed Khanduris only for the position of Kanoongo for many years. In Kumaon too, Joshis of Jhinjhad and Danya and Chaudhari were offered Kanoongo positions for many years.
   The letter of Betan of 29th April 1837, showed that there was no  assurance to Khanduris that Kanoongo positions were reserved for Khanduris only in Garhwal region. Initially, Administration offered post to Khnduris because of their experiences and later on Khanduris took it guaranteed. (3 and 1)

  आखिर शिक्षा का इन कुहाल , कुचाह  अर कुजातिक किलै हुईं च ? असल म हिन्दुस्तान मा शिक्षा दीणम दसियों विकल्प पैदा करे गेन। एकि प्रदेश तो जाणि द्यावो एकि जिला मा शिक्षा दीणम सैकड़ों विकल्प हिमाला पाड़ जन खड़ा छन।  म्युनिस्पैलिटी या जिलापरिषद की शिक्षा पद्धति अलग च , प्राइवेट स्कूलों मा हरेक स्कूलम शिक्षा पद्धति अलग अलग च , सौ स्कूल तो सौ अंदाज , सौ तरीका।  हाँ सिलेबस बुलणा कुण एकि च। 
फिर इमतान पास  पास  करणो वास्ता प्राइवेट ट्युसन , कोचिंग क्लास , अर कुंजी व्यवस्था छन अर नकल कौरिक पास हूण पर अलग भंगुल जम्याँ छन  ,  कांड लग्यां छन , कीड़ पड्यां  छन।  फिर बिना इमतान देकि पास हूणो भरपूर इंतजाम पर अलग हज्या हुयुं च , लुचुड लग्युं च बबासीर हुईं  च।  जन बिहार का समाचार अबि भैर ऐन । हाँ इमतान मा परीक्षा पत्र एकि  होंद किन्तु पास हूणो वास्ता सौ विकल्प छन।   
   भारतवासी ही न , अन्य देस खासकर इंटली का समुद्री मल्लाह अर रक्षा सौदागर भारत की न्यायिक व्यवस्था से भौत ही दुखी छन। मीन क्या बुलण , तुमन क्या बुलण बिचारा  नरेंद्र मोदी तो आम चुनावी  सभाओं मा खौफनाक ढंग से न्यायिक व्यवस्था पर अफ़सोस जतैका चुनवा जीती बि गेन ।  जरा भारत की अदालती , न्यायिक याने  ज्युडिसरी सिस्टम की चीर फाड़ करो त  सै।  एकि पैनल कोड से पुलिस कै अभियुक्त तै बंद करदी तो जूनियर सेसन कोर्ट मा वकील अभियुक्त तै छुड़वै दींदु , सरकारी वकील  हाइयर सेसन  कोर्ट मा फिर अभियुक्त तै फिर से पुलिस कस्टडी जोग कर दींदु अर उच्च न्यायालय को फैसला हूंद कि पुलिस स्टेसन , द्वी सेसन कोर्ट मा जौं बि संविधान की धारा पर बहस ह्वेन वु एक बि धारा ए केस से संबंधित नि छन।  सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का वकील कुछ   हौरि तफ़सीर करदन  , व्याख्या करदन , इन्टरप्रेटेसन करदन  अर सर्वोच्च न्यायालय को फैसला भौं ही हूंद।  एक गुनाह का सौ व्याख्याए ? जब एक पीनल कोड या संबिधान धारा तैं सौ तरां से व्याख्या  ह्वेलि तो न्यायिक व्यवस्था तै मनुष्य की बिसात की बात नि करो , खुदा तैं तो छोडो यीं जटिल व्यवस्था तैं  तो भगवान बि ठीक नि कौर सकुद। विकल्प हर व्यवस्था की सर्वाधिक कमजोरी हूंदी।
              इनि प्रशाशनिक व्यवस्था पर बि आग लगीं छन।  एक अधिकारी टिप्पणी लिखद कि इन नि ह्वे सकद तो हैंक अधिकारी टिप्पणी लिखुद कि इन तरां से नि सै तन तरां से यु संभव च तो तिसर अधिकारी कुछ हौर हि टिप्पणी लख दींदु अर महाराष्ट्र का भूतपूर्व मुख्यमंत्री डिस्क्रीमिनेसन पावर याने तरफदारी  शक्ति से सैनिक विधवाओं का फ़्लैट अपण सासु अर स्याळयूँ नाम पर कर दींदु।  मतलब इख बि विकल्पों की महामारी फैलीं च। 
    जब बि जैं बि व्यवस्था मा नियमुं का विकल्प ह्वावन , एक नियम की व्याख्या सौ तरीका से ह्वावन , अर विकल्प का भी सौ मुतब्दीलात ह्वावन उख व्यवस्था मा धमाचौकड़ी , घपरोळ अर धींगामस्ती  अवश्यम्भावी च।  व्यवस्था मा सढांद की पैली शर्त च एक से अधिक विकल्प !
   मोटर पर एकि इंजिन , रेल इंजिन मा एकि इंजिन हूंद अर हवाई जज मा द्वीइ इंजिन हूंदन तो फिर शिक्षा , न्याय अर प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था मा एकि नियम , एकि  व्यख्या का नियम किलै नि ह्वै सकदन?  व्यवस्था तो विज्ञान च तो फिर इखमा दर्शन शस्त्र का सूत्रों तरां दसियों वैकल्पिक व्याख्या की क्या आवश्यकता ?

     Mahima Nand Sundariyal had been a signature in organizing Garhwali cultural and social programs in Dehradun.  Sundariyal was born in 1928 in village Badoli, Guradsyun , Pauri Garhwal. He created a few poems in Garhwali and a couple of poems were also recorded in audio cassette or albums. His poems are descriptive and emotional ones.

उमैली उमंग अर या तरंग /बचपन का दगड़ा अब वो चलिगे।
तीस बढ़दगै भर दोफरीम /टापी ही टापी तृप्ति नि होई
भटकदो रऊँ मैं डबका लगैन /फिरड़म ढळकां ह्वेगे।
गुठ्यर्यू की छाई डाळयूम जैक /सरकी सरकीक पाखोम  गैन
ओ लालिमा सी अर स्वीळय घाम /डाँडों यैँच वोभी चलिगे।
छूटी ग्याया दगड़ो अब सौंजड्यों को , जौंळ मंगरी ये खोळयूं की धार।

  Parakram Shah took over the 14 vilages jagir from poet and artist Maularam in the regime of Pradyuman Shah. Maularam got back Jagir and Rs one /-daily allowance from Nepal court after writing praiseworthy poems for Nepal King Ranbahadur Shah and Gaurvanyudhavikramshah. However, in 1810, Local Gurkha officials of Shrinagar rejected the Jagir and allowances of Maularam by reasoning that the 'Sanad' was rough (kacchi). Maularam requested with persuasion and got permission from officers for an allowance of half rupee per day. However, Gurkha administration did not pay the same to Maularam. Maulram persuaded the matter with Bakhtawar Singh basnyat. However, perhaps, due to interference of Krishna Nand Khanduri Maularam did not get the jagir and allowance back. (Maularam, Dr Dabral).
           Maularam wrote request letter to Trail about Jagir and allowances to Trail. Maularam could not offer any proof about 'Sanad' of Gurkha regime. Maularam wrote letter in 1815-16. Till end of 1816, British officers did not write any letter from Kolkata. Maularam wrote about Jagir and letter in his poems 'Firangi Amal( Dabral). Later on, British offered Maularam a small portion of land.

यदि कोलंबस इण्डिया की खोज मा अमेरिका नि जांदो अर दक्षिण अमेरिका से मुंगर्युं बीज नि लांदो त गढ़वळि बरखा दिनों मा क्या खांद अर बकै दैं बि क्या खांद ?
        एक समौ मुंगरी बगैर गढ़वाळ , गढ़वाळी अर बरसात की कल्पना करें इ नि सकेंद छै।  अब त चौ मौ बगैर उत्तराखंडै कल्पना नि ह्वै सकदी।  समय बड़ो बलवान च।
तब इंद्र दिबता अधिक अनुषणप्रिय छा तो ऊंका दूत समयनुसार समय पर बरखा बरखै दींद छ।  अब त चार धाम यात्रा का हिसाबन बरखा हूंद बल।  कुज्याण तब ! तबारी तकरीबन जून आखिर अर सात जुलै का दरमयान मुंगर्यात पड़ी जांदी छै।  मुंगर्यात याने मुंगरी बूणो टैम अर याने रेनी सीजन  की भी शुरवात।   
हम तब चाहे गढ़वाली स्कूलम पढ़वां या देहरादून का कॉलेजों मा गर्म्युं की छुट्टी माने मुंगरी खेती की तयारी। गर्म्युं छुट्टियों मा तकरीबन हरेक दिन मुंगरी खेतों सुदारणो काम करण पड़दि छौ।  जय दिन बि गौर मा नि ग्यायि वैदिन श्याम दैं मुंगर्यड़ो   र्याड़ चरणों  ड्यूटी रौंदी छै।  हमर मुंगर्युं तीन सारी छे तो तीन जगा ही भेळ बि छया जख चंग्यरियुं मा    र्याड़ भोरिक खाली करें जांद छौ।  अपण काम छौ तो औसंद , अळगस अर कामचोरी   की क्वी छ्वींइ नि लगद छौ।  र्याड़ चरण क्वी मनरेगाs  काम थुका छौ  जो हम ग्राम प्रधान से भ्याळ दूर हूणों बाण चचराट करदां।  बस हमर उद्देश्य हूंद थौ कि समय पर पुंगड़ र्याड़ बिहीन ह्वे जावन।  कुछ दिन हम सब स्कूल्यों र्याड़ चणणो विषयों पर छ्वीं बथ लगी जांद छा।  फिर जब र्याड़ चणणो काम पूर ह्वे जावो तो खेतुं मा  खौड़ -कत्यार कट्ठा करणो काम शुरू हूंद छौ।  बूढ बुड्यों से एक हिदैत मिलदी छै कि जै पुंगड़ो खौड़ कत्यार हो वो खौड़ कत्यार वैइ पुंगड़म जळाये जाण चयेंद। एक पुंगड़ो खौड़ कत्यार दुसर पुंगड़म लिजाणैं सख्त मनाही रौंदी छै।  हमर बूड  बुड्या कृषि विश्वविद्यालय का  पीएचडी नि छया  पर वो अनुभव  विश्वविद्यालय का डाक़्टर छ्या।  मीन भौत बाद पौढ़ कि खेतों मा वी  खौड़ कत्यार जमदो जै खौड़ कत्यार मा  वू  रसायन  ह्वावन जु रसायन तै खेत या जमीन तै चयेणा छन।  याने खौड़ कत्यार  वे खेत का रसायन की कमी पूर्ति करदा छा जु खेत तैं चयेणा छन। मुंगर्यात से द्वी तीन दिन पैली ही खौड़ कत्यार  की अलग अलग ढेरी तै जळाये जांद छौ। जळयूँ खौड़ कत्यार खेत का रसायन पूर्ति करदा छौ।
  मुंगर्यड़ सुदारणो साथ साथ  मुंगर्यात पड़न से पैल लम्यण्ड।  गुदड़ी अर कखड़ी झिंकड़ काटी लाणो जिम्मा बि अधिकतर स्कूल्यों की हूंदी थै। हमर गाँव मा जंगळ ना का बरोबर ही छा तो हम दूसराक बौणु से   रत्यां झिंकड काटी लांदा छ जै तैं हम चोरी नि समजदा छ अपितु बहादुरी समजदा छा। 
        बरखा शुरू हूणो कुण  मुंगर्यात नि बुले जांद छै।  मुंगर्यात  माने इथगा बरखा जथुग मा मुंगरी  जामि बि जावन अर आठ दस दिन बरखा नि बि ह्वे त बि मुंगरी मोरन बि ना।  यांकुण जणगरा लोक जमीन खोदिक दिखदा छा  , हवा से अनुमान करदा छा अर कुंळै डाळु   आवाज आदि का पूरा अध्ययन करदा छ तब जैका  गाँव वळ एक दगड़ मुंगरी भिजांद छा।  मुंगर्युं दगड़ सभी प्रकार का म्याला बि भिगये जांद था अर तब जैक मुंगरी सीं पर बुये जांद छौ।
हम मुंगरि ब्वेका स्कूलों मा चल जांद था अर बकै काम बड़ा लोगुं  कु छौ।  मुंगरी तुड़न बि एक कला च अर मुंगर्युं से विभिन्न खाद्य पदार्थ बणान बि एक कला छै।    यां पर भोळ ...

प्यार की त छुईं इनि कुछ नि लांदो मोल
घिंड्वा घिन्डुड़ी मा ब्वल्द औ बणौला घोल।
फुर घिंडुड़ी आजा !
पधानु का छाजा !!
चाड़ नी जु छ्वीं लगऊँ ,
केकु तेरा नेडु अऊँ ,
इन्ना समझि तन्नी छऊं ,
कुछ नि तेरो काsज
पधानु का छाजा !!

तन्नी छै तु कैन बोलि
अपड़ा मनै बात खोलि,
मिन ता सोचि थकीं होलि
इच्छि थौ ता खा जा !
पधान का छाजा !!
जाण कनै कैकि रीत ,
मर्दु कि क्या च प्रतीत ,
दुन्या झट म्यसौन्द गीत,

अपड़ा अपड़ा बाठा जा जा !
पधान का छाजा !!
इति हस्यार तू चलाक ,
तड़तड़ी छ कुंगळि नाक
संगुळि सी लटकीं बुलाक,
भलि दिंदौ बिराजा
पधान का छाजा !!

त्वेको मी गौणा बणौलो
अब कबी नि दिल दुखौलो
