मंत्री  भगवत सिंह कटोच - ना ना ! माराज इन जुलम नि कारो

राजा- अर उनि बि झंगवर क्वादों खेती मंड्याणि होलि

कटोच- तुमर मतबल च अब एक हैंको नयो कर ?

राजा- हाँ जादा ना बस दस सुप्प .

कटोच- पण इन मा त आठ दस दूण कर ?

राजा- अरे पर मेरी राणि लड़ना रौंदन कि ना?

कटोच- हाँ दीदी बि नराज च

राजा - अरे म्यार बुबा जी से गलती ह्वाई कि वूंन बीस पचीस राण्यु महल नि चिणैण

कटोच- माराज ! सिरीनगर मा इथगा जगा बि नी च ना !

राजा- पण आज मै तै हरेक राणि तै एकै महल दीणि पोडल , अर कुछ वु नचण वाळी बांदुं कुण बि महल ना सै त बड़ो कूड़ चयेन्दन कि ना ? अरे राजा छौं त मी सुदि झुपड़ो मा त जैनि सकदो.

कटोच - पण

राजा- त इन कारो तुम चौड़ कर बढाओ

कटोच- कखी जनता कुछ लाब काब बखण  बिसे ग्याई त, कखी रज़ा विरुद्ध क्रांति ..?

राजा- त जनता क मुखाक बान लोखरो म्वाळ बि बणाओ  . अर कुछ लोग नया कर का विरुद्ध गाळी देला, पण जादातर हमारो राजा बुलान्दो बदरीनाथ होंद क नाम से कर द्याला

कटोच- पण नयो कर का बान कुछ कारण बि त बताण  पोड़ल .

राजा- त इन कारो बल कुमाऊं पर  आक्रमण कारो   या तिब्बत  पर आक्रमण कारो अर उखाकी जनता से धन लूटो मै तै राण्यु कुणि महल अर  नचाड़ बांदु कुणि कूड़ चयाणा छन.

कटोच - त मतबल हम तै कुमाऊं या तिब्बत पर आक्रमण करण जरूरी च .

राजा --पण सौब सेनापति त कखि ना कखि लडै पर जयां इ होला.

कटोच- त इन कारो आप सेना कि बागडोर लेकी आक्रमण कारो

राजा- आक्रमण करणो जाण त मि बि चांदो पण तुम त जाणदा इ छंवां कि मि एक दिन बि भैर रौलु  त पचीसेक  राणी अर सैकड़ाक नचाड़ बांद सौब खुद्याण मिसे जान्दन. अब मि सौब देखि सकुद पण यूँ राण्यु खुद्याण  , नचाड़  बांदुं आंसू नि देखि सकुद.

कटोच- हाँ या बात बि सै च

राजा- अरे मंत्री जी इन कारो तुम इ जि सेनापति बौणिक पड़ोस्यूं पर आक्रमण  कि डोर थाम्बो !

कटोच - नै नै ! जनता पर नया कर लगाण इ ठीक रालो

राजा - मि त पैलि बुलणु छौ कि जनता पर कर लगाओ

कटोच- जब बिटेन हम कटोच भयात हिमाचल बिटेन  इख औवां  हमन बौण कर, घास कर, चुल्हा कर, अर पता नि क्या क्या कर नि लगाई

राजा- मि नि जाणदो मै तै राण्यु महल अर नचाड़ बांदु क वास्ता कूड़ो बान रकम चयाणि च

कटोच- त इन करदवां स्युंदी सुप्पा कर लगै दींदवां

राजा- स्युंदी सुप्पा माने हरेक ब्यौ  पर एक सुप्पो कर ?

कटोच- हाँ

राजा- जरा गणत कारो कि इनमा कथगा कर ऐ जालो ?

कटोच- महल त सैत बौणि जाला

राजा - अर नचाड़ बांदुं कुड़ो कुणि ?

कटोच- त ठीक च सुत सुप्पो बि लगै दीन्दा

राजा- मतलब हरेक बच्चा हुण पर एक सुप्प अनाज कर ?

कटोच - जी. बांदुं कुणि कूड़ सुत सुप्पो कर से बणि जाला.

राजा - त ठीक च जरा द्वी  होशियार मंत्र्युं तै बिजनौर भ्याजो अर कुछ आठ दस बिगरैलि नचाड़ बांद खरीदिक लाओ

कटोच- मि आजि  अपण द्वी भायुं तै नचाड़  बांद लाणो बिजनौर  भिजदु

राजा- अहा ! अब मेरी  सौब चिंता खतम ह्व़े गेन .

Contribution of 'Hilans' Magazine in Promoting Kumauni and Garhwali Literature -1
(Let Us Remember Contribution of Late Arjun Singh Gusain for Regional Language Literature Promotion)

                  Arjun Singh Gusain started editing and publishing 'Hilans' a monthly magazine in 1978 in a small way from Mumbai. However, it became popular among Uttarakhandis magazine within no time due to its focused and intellectual subject. 'Hilans' became the mouth piece of separate Uttarakhand movement within no time. Arjun Singh Gusain was teacher in Cambridge School, Mumbai and he never need printing press as an additional source for his earning. However, he purchased a printing press just for publishing 'Hilans'.
  This author, as many other literature creative; is a product of 'Hilans' a regional language magazine.
  Arjun Singh Gusain Smriti Samiti is celebrating 10th death anniversary of late Arjun Singh Gusain. The Samiti offered me a job to inform the people of Uttarakhand about contribution of 'Hilans' Magazine in Promoting Kumauni and Garhwali Literature.
  This author will discuss each Kumauni or Garhwali language creation published in 'Hilans'.

Jay gadh Janani (a Garhwali poem) – Dharma Nand Uniyal wrote affine poem on praising geographical aspects of Garhwal.
Apni Dharti ko geet - The Garhwali poem by Kamal Sahityalankar is very inspiring
2-Kumauni or Garhwali literature in 'Hilans' Magazine March, 1979 issue
  When Arjun Sing started Hilans, only a couple of news periodicals were available in Uttarakhand. Gusain provided a popular platform for Garhwali and Kumauni language literature.
Brigch Vandan- Prakash Chandra Purohit wrote a fine Garhwali poem about the importance of protection of environment and ecological resources.
Ayo vasant baudi – The Garhwali poem by Narayand Datt Shastri creates a strong image of spring in Garhwal. The poem is fine example of imagery in Garhwali poetry.
Gareebu holi – The Garhwali poetry of Kamal sahityalankar attacks on the system that makes the poor poorer and the rich richer

   Bwe k Baan (Garh Aina, 3/4/1989) – The Uttarakhandi language satirist Bhishma strikes on migrated Garhwalis state that they have to spend money in travelling Garhwal to see their parents. In fact they spend money on other activities and blame their parents.

Nai Abhyas ( Garh Aina, 9/4/1989) Once upon a time, state  assembly houses  and parliament houses were the houses of peaceful discussions by politicians. However, in changing scenario, the politicians behave in parliament or assembly houses as the war warriors. Asian regional language satire prose creative Kukreti sneers the warrior behaviors of politicians in public places as parliament. 
Baufors- Kujyani Buba (Garh Aina, 28/5/1989) - Usually, the opposition parties and leaders are happy that by their shouting attack on T.V. channels, media or road block etc in cities that they are able in creating public awareness against corrupt methods. However, the reality is just opposite when the common people don't know what they are saying. The Indian regional satire prose maker Kukreti derides the activities of politicians in cities and forgetting real India.
Dal Katnai arji (Garh Aina, 13/6/1989) - The SAARC countries regional satire prose maker B.C Kukreti taunt s on red tape system in government administration.
Chunav ar Ashwasan( Garh Aina 19/6/1989)- In this satire, the Himalayan regional language satire prose creative  laughs at the false promises by election candidates in all types  elections.
T Doon Daij Kyankun bodan? (Ghati ke Garjate Swar 6/6/1989)- In this satire essay, Himalayan regional language satire prose author Bhishma hoots the dowry system in marriage.   
In bi t hwe sakad? (Garh Aina, 12/7/1989) – The south Asian regional language satire writer Bhishma scoffs the political maneuvering for taking advantage of funds received for scheduled caste development scheme by village council members.

गढ़वाळी कविता ---****सासु अर ब्वारि ******

           कवि-डॉ नरेन्द्र गौनियाल 

सासु अर ब्वारि कु यु कनु लाम च,
लड़णो-झगड्नो,न कुछ काम च.
हर दिन- हर रात ककड़ाट हुयूं रैंदा,
खंडिकी रोटी नि बँटीन्दी यूंतैयी.

सासु लगान्द छवीं अपणा नौना मा,
ब्वारि बैठीं रैंद  दूर तब एक कूण मा.
कनि काळ निरबै मैकू य लगी गया,
पंडजिन कुंडळी किलै इनि य मिसै.

बेटा घर तू जब कबी बि आंदी,
कनि भली तब तू ईंतई पांदी.
तेरि आणे  खबर जब य पांदा.
म्वरीं बीराळी जनि तब ह्वै जांदा.

घाम औण तक पट्ट सियीं रैंदा,
कनि फसोरिकी निंद अईं रैदा.
उठ ब्वारि उठ ये मि बुनू रैंदो,
चुला मा च्या धैरी छनुड़ा जांदू.

मेरो ब्वल्यां कु असर कुछ नि हून्दो,
क्य जि करूँ मि त ब्वे कखजि ज्वौंऊ.
चुलखंदा जब घाम पट पौंछि जांदा.
आंखि मिन्डीकी तब य उठी पांदा.

ग्वीलू कैरि छनुड़ा बिटि मि आन्दु.
सुण बेटा घर मा तब क्या पांदु.
अब त ब्वे मेरि ऐगे गाळ-गाळ.
इनी आफत अब तू अफु ही समाळ.

च्याऊ बणे अफु य सबि पेयी दींद,
च्यापती कितुलुन्द मैकू रैणि दींद.
कन कैकि रैण मिन अब ईं दगड़,
मेरि कुगत किलै य करणी रैंदा.

मिन बेटा किलै रे तू सैंती-पाळी.
अपणो दूध पिलै किलै तू बड़ो करी. 
मिन नि जाणि बेटा कबी यनु बि हूण.
अपणो भाग को मि अब सोचदू.

कैम बोलूँ यख त मेरो क्वी बि नीं च.
अपणो दुःख अब मी कैतेई सुनौऊ.
इनो बचण से त मी कुट मरी जौं,
सोचणू छौं अब मी कैई ढन्डी पड़ूं.

   Mohan Sailani is one of the important figures in Garhwali poetry and fiction. His way of telling tale is marvelous. Mohan wrote more on social issues in his fiction. In his fiction, Mohan strikes directly on the problems and depicts the reason behind those issues.
  Ghol is about a girl being married and there become disturbance in marriage rituals due to disputes for dowry from her parent side. Her husband leaves her before honey moon. Her mother dies due to shock and late she also dies.
The story is sad and readers feel sadness too. When they read the letter of her husband along with the girl -
चिट्ठी मा क्या छै आह पति कु दिल छाई. आह वेदी मा कु सुख वीं तै कुतगळी सि लग

-वत्स अल्ल्ट स्वामी ! प्रणाम करणा इ त संस्कृत  भाषा मा प्रणाम कारो .प्राकृत भाषा मा प्रणाम असंस्कृत  मनिखूं   काम च .

- अब क्या कौरु माराज ! आप सरीखा महान ग्यानी ध्यानी  अपणि  बोलि तै पैथर धकेल  सकदन पण में सरीखा आम मनिख कि प्रकृति मा अपण दुध बोलि छुड़ण कठण  च  अर हम आम मनिख इन समजदवां बल अपणि दुध  बोलि तै पैथर धक्यलण माने ब्व़े बाबु तै लत्याण

- बत्स तुम मा मी मा यो इ अंतर  च.  त्यरो ज्ञान में से भौत बिंडी ह्वालू सैत. . पण सम्राट विक्रमादित्य में तै बिंडी  महत्व दीन्दन.  अर मि अफु तै उज्जैन कु नागरिक माणदो . मेरो हरेक काम अर कर्तबुं उज्जैन प्रेम इ दिख्यांद .लूण खाओ जखाक गुण गाओ तखाक.

- पण रघुवंशम  रचयिता श्री ! क्या तुमारु   मातृभूमि क प्रति क्वी कर्तव्य नी च ?

-वत्स अल्लट ! मातृभूमि  भूमि महत्वपूर्ण होंदि  या कर्म भूमि महत्व पूर्ण होंदि  ? यू बड़ो गूढ़ विषय च .आज बि मर्मग्य  याँकि छाण निराळ नि कौरी सकिन कि को महत्वपूर्ण च - मातृभूमि या कर्म भूमि !

-पण कवि श्री ! मातृभाषा अर मातृभूमि क बि त क्वी उधार हूंद  क्वी पगाळ हूंद . अर यूँ दुयुंक पगाळ बौड़ाण बि त उथगा इ आवश्यक च जथगा कर्मभूमि तै महत्व दीण ?

-प्रिय निर्णयामृत कु रचयिता अल्ल्ट  ! जैकी  जथगा पुन्यात हूंद   वै तै उथगा इ खुट पसारण चयेंदन. पुन्यात से भैर खुट पसारण से  इहलोक बि नि सुधरदो अर परलोक लैक बि नि रौंदो

- पण हे अभिज्ञान शाकुंतलम कु  रचयिता ! क्या कर्म भूमि तै सुदारदो सुदारदो मातृभूमि  तै बिसरण उचित च?

- संस्कृत कु महान गढ़वाली लिख्वार अल्लट श्री  ! कबि कबि मातृभूमि तै कर्मभूमि को पृष्ठभूमि मा रखण इ उचित होंद

-विक्रमोर्व्सियम रचयिता कालिदास श्री ! पण क्या कर्मभूमि क रखरखाव  कु दगड मातृभूमि चिंतन बि त ह्व़े सकुद ? अर प्रवास मा कर्मभूमि मा कर्म करद-करद  , प्रख्याति पांद पांद मातृभूमि चिंतन अर मातृभूमि दर्शन बि त ह्व़े सकुद कि ना?     

-वत्स अल्ल्ट ! तुमन पातंजलि योग संहिता बांची इ ना वांक मर्म बि बींगी ह्वाल ? उखमा योगी बणणो बान ध्यान को कथगा महत्व च ?

- ऋतुसंहारम का  महाकवि श्री ! ध्यान से इ क्वी बि साधारण मनुष्य महान योगी बौण सकुद .

-त वत्स ! जु मै सरीखा उज्जैन मा रौण वळु प्रवासी जु मातृभूमि तै बीच मा लौलु  त क्या मि अपण करमु मा व्यवधान नि लौलु? अर अफिक व्यवधान लाणो मतबल च ध्यान भंग अर ध्यान भंग माने  अपणी आजीवका वृति क दगड शत्रुता करण . वत्स अल्लट ! क्या आजीविका वृति क दगड व्यवधान नामौ शत्रुता क्या उचित च ?

- हे मेघदूत को लिख्वार ! आजीविका त पशु कर्म च पण आप त मनिख छन , आप कवि छन

- वत्स ! आजीविका इ मनुष्य कि कोटि मा भेद लांद . उच्च कोटि, मध्य कोटि या निम्न कोटि का भेद सौब आजीविका से इ बणदन . त कै बि प्रवासी क कर्तव्य च कि वो अपण आजीविका पर पैल ध्यान से बि बिंडी  ध्यान द्याओ . कै बि प्रवासी तै हमेशा उच्च कोटि पद प्राप्ति क बान श्रम , परिश्रम करण ही उचित च .

- मलिकाग्निमित्रम का रचंदेर ! तुमारो मन्तव्य  च कि  चाहे मातृभूमि चिंतन, मातृभूमि प्रेम तै  पैथर धकेले जाओ क्वी बुरो नी च  .

-देखो वत्स अल्ल्ट  ! तुम गंगा बद्रिकाश्रम  निवासी इख उज्जैन मा ऐक सौब से बुल्दवां कि .मि अलकनंदा तीरे कविल्ठा  ग्राम को छौं त यि तबी बुल्द्वां जब मि उच्च पदासीन होऊं . इख अलकनंदा छालो भौत सा प्रवासी छन अर वो निम्न  पद पर छन. क्या तुम उंकी सुद बि लीन्दा? उल्टा जब वो निम्न पदासीन  लोक मिल्दा बि छन त तुम गंगा निवासी बथान्दा बि नि छंवां कि इ निम्न  पदासीन लोक तुमारो क्वी सम्बन्धी छन . त प्रवासी तै पैल उच्च पद कि कामना करण ही अधिक श्रेयकर  च अर यांक बान  आजीविका पर अति ध्यान दीण आवश्यक च.

- हे कुमारसंभव का कवि कालिदास श्री ! आप बार बार यो ही बताणो प्रयत्न करणा  छंवां कि प्रवास्युं तै कर्म भूमि कि बिंडी  चिंता करण चएंद अर मातृभूमि तै पृष्ठ भूमि मा रखण बि उचित नी च

- प्यारो अल्ल्ट ! द्याखो यू अपण अपण विचार भेद कि बात च

         There is more importance or significance of Importance of community/regional newspapers and magazines as Hilans in globalization era for economic growth. Community/regional newspapers and magazines are the medium of interaction of concepts among the community members. Community/regional newspapers and magazines bring news of different aspects for awareness in the community. Community/regional newspapers and magazines are always the platform for discussion various issues of the community.  Community/regional newspapers and magazines as Hilans also alert the people about misdeeds of leaders or administration. Community/regional newspapers and magazines are always helpful in promoting community culture. Community/regional newspapers and magazines also are the medium of protecting regional language literature as proved by Hilans for protecting Kumauni and Garhwali literature.

Garhwali Bhasha sansthan- In seventies and eighties, there were repeated discussions on the importance of Garhwali Bhasha Sansthan among Garhwali literature creative and intellectuals in the tune of Marathi Bhasha Sansthan. Rama Prasad Pahadi provides the five purposes -
1-Office in Garhwal
2-Musium for various uses
3-Research and Publication of old manuscripts
4- Gadhwali bhasha Kosh or publication of Garhwali dictionary including geography and history
5-Radio Station in Shri nagar 
Gadh des myaro a Garhwali poem by Bhagwati Prasad Pokhariyal – The poem is an imagery poem describing geographical beauty of Garhwal
  With the continuous publication of 'Hilans' for more than decade till his illness , Arjun Singh Gusain provided the issues related to Kumaunis and Garhwali communities.
That is the reason that great Himalayan personality Dr. Shekhar Pathak states as
Dear Bhishma jee,
Thanks for remembering Arjun Singh Gusain.  We all remember him so much. He very creatively compelled our generation to write and also to write in Kumaoni and Garhwali etc.
May I suggest that in this advance age of camera and computers, we must scan all the issues of Hilans and made them available not only to us all but also to coming generations.

Chala u ni ain tkyaa hwe ?-The satirist Gaur depicts the division  of villagers among various groups. Some groups are related to castes and some are for other reasons. There are a couple of villagers who wish to make hurdles in important task as marriage. The satirist Parashar finds the chance for realization among villagers for unity.
Kya Bun tab- in this satire prose, Garhwali prose satirist Parashar criticizes the villagers who notoriously make hurdle in important works of people.

                      Rukmi (Dhad, October –December 1988) is a modern Garhwali tale written by famous social activist Vidyavati Dobhal.
Kaly is parentless but is lovers of beautiful girls. He marries three times by spending huge money. Each of his wives left him immediately after marriage. Kalya was black as coal. At last he marries a dumb and black color girl. Kalya is very simple in thinking. Vidyavati explores psychology of each individual in this modern Garhwali tale 'Kalya'

गौं का पंदेरा मा
पैलि
रैंदी  छै
चहल-पहल
तुरतुर्या पाणि
कसेरी-गगरी
कठवळी-तम्वळी
लगीं रैंदी छै
एक हारि पर
ननि ननि भुली
खेल्दी छै बट्टा
नना नना भुला
खेलदा छा कंचा
नैं नैं ब्वारि
लगान्दी छै
मीठी-मीठी छवीं           
झौडी काकी
एक छ्वाड पर बैठि
लगान्दी छै
उन्का
अब सब कुछ
बदली गे
गौं-गौं मा
भितर-भैर
पाणि का नळ
न कैका बट्टा
न कैका कंचा
न कैकि छवीं
न कैका उन्का
अर न रैगे
अब
कैकि अग्यार..
